I sent CNN a letter. I was nice. Nice and scathing. We had to deal with that fool Lou Dobbs last week and now this. I compared their journalism to that of a sub-par junior high school student. Even kids on a debate team know you have to research all positions of an argument thoroughly to come up with a counter-point. This is supposed to be a NEWS program not Entertainment Tonight right? I expect them to adhere to certain journalism standards if they have a reasonable expectation of being considered respectable. They have an opportunity to correct this if they choose to. Can we get some people on Real Time w/ Bill Maher? I feel like he does a better job of reporting a balanced viewpoint than these other programs. I complained that he hadn't had any Black female panelists in months and 2 weeks later there were 2 in a row!

Obama just moves people. They can't always articulate it and may not have a list of talking points to break it down. I think it's just an instinct. Though the same argument could be made for the other candidates as well...but their behavior has been suspect.

Well Dr. West could have spoken with Sen. Obama in private. Why write an article publicly slamming him about it? We've got a wolf in sheep's clothing here. Why not call HRC on her support of Goldwater who opposed MLK and Civil Rights? Why not point out McCain's entire voting record opposing MLK day for 25 years? Obama will not let anyone put him in a box. Besides Shillary and McSame were simply pandering to voters. Obama is living the dream realized. If King were alive today and had remained true to himself he wouldn't have been allies with most of the Black leaders or intellegentsia.

You don't have to be an Obama supporter but you really waste the time of people who want to have an informed debate about issues when all you provide is your narrow opinion as fact. You don't like Obama - fine. When he's elected President feel free to give up your citizenship and leave the country. You do a disservice to us patriots who are fed up with the current status quo, are coming into consciousness and want our elected officials to actually work for us instead of against us and for the interests of a few at the expense of the masses. People allowed themselves to be played by politicians with hot button issues and talking points but since it has all blown up in their faces they are starting to get it. It's called the kitchen sink theory and most people are not buying into it. If you refuse to see the light feel free to remain in the dark - and be left behind!

For those that are offended by Obama's statement - even after reading his entire comment - you need to do some more internal work. People do turn to false gods, a limited view of religion, a specific view of society and a combination of things such as blaming immigrants for taking jobs away or saying some people get a 'helping hand', or become very insular. We were actually just discussing this topic in a religious studies class for lay people. People look to following a list of do's and don'ts cloaked in the blanket of religion instead of focusing on having a deep and abiding spiritual connection with their God. I live in San Francisco but was born in Buffalo, NY. There's a rust belt area for you! There's a segment of the population that has always done poorly and it has only gotten worse with each subsequent administration. They're always building something like an entertainment complex or parking garages. It was and still is very segregated. Racist. I remember temp agencies only offering Black people jobs in a factory for minimum wage when they had office jobs available [but apparently only for whites]. I could not wait to leave and did as soon as I graduated from high school. If you ask the 'average' white person about Buffalo they may have more fond memories and typically lived in a suburb. I had to take a bus to go to the 'white' side of town to attend school..and get accused by some Black students of 'being white' because I was in an honors program. Apathy and limited viewpoints are shared by many.

Look at how easily people were manipulated into voting against gay-marriage instead of asking the politicians to discuss why they allowed companies to not only ship their jobs oversees, but get a tax break [corporate welfare] AND not help re-train the workforce left behind for new careers or offer an educational incentive. They pushed for a war that was supposed to have been 'won' but didn't want to show all the civilian casualties, didn't want to pay for proper equipment for those fighting, don't talk about all the women getting raped by fellow officers while serving, not supporting the GI Bill and allowing mid-to-lower income individuals to enlist and keeping them there, not talking about the REAL agenda with controlling the oil or how the US/UK assassinated the democratically elected leaders and redesigned the borders to cause strife AND allow the oil companies to accumulate their biggest windfall ever while we're now paying $4.39/gallon [in my area]. And how they won't let their children go over to fight but will gladly encourage yours to do so.

And while yes, some individuals can do their own internal work and try to find inner peace despite all the *hit they have to go through, it gets tiring after a while, esp. if it bleeds into the next generation, and it's certainly understandable that someone could be frustrated about it and if it festers long enough become bitter. I live in a very expensive city and would love to continue my education in the hope that it could lend to a better job and standard of living. The $4000 Pell grant for undergrads doesn't even cover one semester in today's marketplace and it has not been increased in over 10 years I believe. There's a cap on the guaranteed student loans which requires you to take out a private loan at a much higher interest rate and is subject to credit-worthiness. If I had enough money to begin with I wouldn't have to borrow money!

Obama may have been focusing on certain PA voters but this issue affects many other people who don't live in small towns. Some may immediately start carping about big gov't and more taxes but I see the gov't bail-out of Bear Sterns just like the Savings&Loan; scandal of the 80's as two sides of one coin. The few want the gov't to let them do whatever they want and get a tax break and no regulation, oversight and freedom from prosecution. So they can be free to launder money, tie up retirement funds lower-to-mid income masses in their high-stakes investments, discriminate against hiring anyone who isn't a particular white male, let the top executives earn hundreds of millions and let it all go to hell in a handbasket AND then use my money - what little I have to bail THEM out. The Bear Sterns CEO made $400 million and still gets to keep it, sold his stock before it fell and is not going to prison. Wasn't Martha Stewart sent to prison over a $50,000 deal but this guy gets nothing!

And the Bush administration has companies in an official prosecution holding-pattern against very real crimes they have committed and this is intentionally under-reported by the traditional media. I'm bitter! And Obama is the only candidate that had the audacity to touch on this and people don't like the message or the way he said it want to mad at him. HE is not the cause of the problem, so don't shoot the messenger. Actually Clinton and McCain are in bed with these people so they're not gonna do *hit about it! We have the real enemies to be mad at and we should hold them accountable.

Whether Obama ultimately wins or not this has been a very painful and enlightening wake-up call. I for one had no real idea of all the crap that goes on and how we the [little] people have been sold for a few pieces of silver. That's the source of a lot of this nastiness because evil will not go down without a fight. We are confused because we have been asleep at the wheel. The old manipulations won't work because they've already played that hand. Again, I'm not advocating Obama as a savior for he is still a politician but he encourages transparency and individual participation. We are the majority and we can take our country back. We don't have to agree on every single issue but we can agree to work as a collective. I am grateful for that knowledge and it's existing to join with others to make that happen.

There is no Pacific Heights, CA. It's a neighborhood in the city of San Francisco where I live. If you're going to disagree could you at least post something that is close to being relevant and accurate to make your counterpoint? And since you've mentioned the bible - yes we are urged to love God above anything else and love our neighbors as ourselves. The thing is people don't always do that. This country measures a person's worth in their material status and income. The whole American dream manifesto. Not every person in this country is going to have the house with white picket fence, an {American} car, 2.5 kids, the stay-at-home wife and vacation. Some people in power decided that they wanted say 100 of those homes at the expense of others. Gas is $4.39/gallon here, but as bad as that may be Europeans always paid 5 times what the US paid. We got a great bargain at the expense of others but nobody complained about it then. The oil companies are making their biggest profits ever. The CEO of Bear Sterns got to walk away with $400 million in compensation and no criminal prosecution. This is history repeating itself from the S&L; scandals of the 80's. Do you know about the Keating 5? Do you think Clinton or McCain are going to offer a real solution or do you just want to complain? There are entire populations in cities that were in financial dire straits when the Clintons were in office. When unemployment rates are discussed only the new filings are counted not the people who were already receiving benefits. If the true rate was published it would be surprising. Obama is addressing the core problems, the disease. Some don't like that he's said it, some don't like the way he said, some don't like that he, the Uppity Negro understands just how profoundly the masses have been getting screwed over by the few and is shining light on the cockroaches. It's called DISTRACTION. And if you fail to see the BIG picture and want to be caught up in semantics then you are probably one of those people that voted for the politicians and policies that are now hurting you because you let them manipulate you with hot-button issues [gay marriage, reverse discrimination, etc]. They were patting you on the back with one hand and shoving a knife in with the other. And you're only noticing the bleeding.

I think it's up to the bloggers to stop letting our topics be only set in response to what traditional covers. I know I posted several comments and asked why are people letting themselves be so easily manipulated and distracted by non-issues. We need to be vetting John McCain who is getting a complete pass and allowed to frame himself the way he pleases. Why aren't there news stories questioning his 'straight-talk and family values' when he mistreated his first wife, cheated and married his mistress who's very wealthy? How he apologized for not signing off on the King holiday but opposed it for 25 YEARS as well as important Civil Rights legislation. How he claimed to be against torture but supported Bush policies every single time it came up for a vote. His involvement in the S&L; scandals and how he's supported similar bail-outs, lack of oversight and criminal prosecution with the banks yet again over the mortgage crisis. I'm not even going to talk about the Bill & Hill show. Whatever she says she supports [jobs for displaced workers, etc] you can bet if you follow the money trial Bill was brokering a deal with those who undermine and are in direct opposition of stated position. I'm glad to see a post on the Chinese connection. I'd also like to see something about Darfur. Rwanda, Congo and how Hillary with all of her experience did little to help the people raped and murdered then and has not done anything of any substance since she's been in office while Obama got specific legislation passed to assist. It's time to turn our attention on the hypocrisy and the ties the Clintons, Bushes and McCains have with each other. Now my other question is can we do this without some shadowy gov't spying or will we be put on someone's watch list because of it. My dad was a Black Panther and I know they had a file on him.

As usual people take things out of context or focus on a few phrases and miss the entire point. People do turn to external things to ease their discomfort: be it food, sex, blaming immigrants, bashing gays, hitting women, guns, or religion. There is internal work necessary and without it there is limited growth. Obama has not said something unique however it did come from a Black presidential candidate and some want to take what he's said to use it against his campaign by getting people upset which is just further distraction. If you're upset by what he said how upset should you be at the politicians who have passed the trade agreements and laws that have in fact harmed you, taken your jobs away, given tax breaks to people who don't need them and lowered your standard of living? I disagree that America doesn't want to hear it as quite a few people agree. Those polls are skewed to show what the people who want to drum a controversy will say. Those who will get upset and not see the hypocrisy of the candidates that slam Obama for it were unlikely to have voted for Obama anyway. Yes, he's trying to reach them but he's bringing an entire other group of new voters with him. I vote for Democrats and quite frankly was not really excited by Gore, Kerry or Dean. I honestly did not think Hillary had a chance of winning in the General Election against McCain. I felt there was a hidden end game involved because he had previous said he was not running. Their strategists work for the same company. Why isn't this being discussed? I was familiar with the Clinton name and have gotten to know them better this election cycle. So much so that I despise them and see them as Republicans who've infiltrated the party - thanks for that guys! Of course people may also realize how Clinton and McCain are practically joined at the hip and start to wonder why. Obama is going to be portrayed as the uppity candidate, the angry candidate, the unfairly lucky candidate, etc NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES OR DOESN'T DO. I am getting tired of these knee jerk reaction posts by conscious people who play into this. Stop giving others power to set the narrative! Let's focus on the real issues and have people discussing them. Remember how Rev. Wright was supposed to be Obama's undoing? Now this...please! I come to these blogs to hear a more Afro-centric viewpoint and reality checks for sure, but there's just too much hand-wringing and worrying going on. If Obama was going to try to play it safe or run his campaign differently he probably would not have run AT ALL. He's run against the Clinton machine for goodness sake and has to fight the very real racism in this country. He said that racism isn't static and he's challenging people to confront their biases and move on. There are always going to be people who are unloving and behave in unlovable ways. The power structure in the political parties is being challenged right now. We would do well to call attention to THAT instead. This posting was a call to put Obama in his place - however good intentioned it may be it is FEAR based- and I don't appreciate it.

Glad somebody mentioned BFP! Also look at Angry Black Woman site for info. There's call for attention to Darfur. I was reading that the Save Darfur campaign has been misappropriated by US & Israeli lobbyists/gov't operatives to take over the country, do a smash and grab on the oil and other resources and get rid of China. Someone on another blog suggested I listen to the survivors and research it from there, but I do wonder why there's more attention being given to the Sudan when Congo has had 10 times the amount of violence. I have to say that it's all wrong and I'm not trying to pit conflict against conflict or diminish people's pain. But when does the US do anything for another country without expecting something in return? And they did nothing to stop the same actions in Rwanda. Any recommendations?

Jack as a singer here a few things I do to help boost my immune system:

Keep in mind while you travel that eating local grown fresh honey contains antigens to that area and help you stay healthy.

1. Peel and Boil fresh ginger to make a tea and add honey and lemon.

2. Emergen - C or similar

3. Buy a neti pot to flush your entire sinus cavity OR you can buy a organic saline nasal spray

4. Use a dehumidifier regularly and a clean air filter

5. Tiger Balm or Vicks Vapo-Rub

6. Chicken soup - it's been scientifically proven. If you don't eat meat I suppose you could just do the broth and vegies.

7. 10-15 of deep breathing and mediative down time

8. 10 glasses of water per day

9. Positive Thoughts.

10. Prayer

Those Hillary supporters would have never said that about John Edwards. We have been given an opportunity to fix so many problems with this country and it will be a long battle. If it had been easy it wouldn't mean as much! I am positive but I also know we have free will and historically every current superpower falls. So this is the moment where we can point to our demise or our rebirth.

Seriously I don't know how Obama does it. He is always in great spirits, looks rested and hasn't been sick yet. Those are in support of restoring morality and justice to this country can not give up. Evil is always on the look out and weak-willed people are easily manipulated. We have to remain vigilant!

Well as much as we support an Obama candidacy we also need to strategize with a contingency plan. If Hillary is allowed to steal the nomination who do we support? We cannot stay home and wait it out 4-8 years. There are things that Obama has not prepared for like last week's debate and going off script that have not helped. He already has the hounds of hell on his back and he needs to tighten that up. With that being said I think he would make one of our best presidents.

Can we stop calling it MSM? It's not main stream media it is and has always been white supremacist marketing tool. There were alternatives and the 'free' press, but they are controlled by 4-5 conglomerates and offer a very controlled and limited view. Why isn't there a cable news show with a truly balanced host who's not white and male? We are the real media. And we need to start seriously strategizing about taking this up a notch. I look at gossip blogger Perez Hilton who in 3 years has moved into television and now is getting a radio show. Yes it's about fluff and he's annoying at times but I am impressed with his hustling skills. We could pool our resources, buy a small tv station or radio station or SOMETHING. And we need to stop funding companies that put out negative images of Black people, particularly Black women and girls because it is ridiculous. If the minds of our children are poisoned we will have lost an entire generation. It won't matter who's POTUS.

Is that percentage calculation accurate? 59% seems a little high to me! Unfortunately just as some Black people have not bothered to vote this primary season despite the history of violence and suppression SOME people will vote for her regardless. Hopefully that number will be few and far between. Hopefully those in the Black blogsphere will organize. We need to have a strategic contingency plan in place. If Obama is torpedoed what are people planning? We cannot sit out this election cycle.

We are the movement we've been waiting for! I think a thorough analysis of public policy should be discussed on a regular basis irrespective of the candidates running and including the ones who are in office now. Even if cities with Democratic leadership have failed policies. I want us to be conscious, thoughtful citizens who vote for their values and hold those in office accountable. We also seriously need to support other political parties to open up the lobbyist and corporate stranglehold. For example: when most Americans have overwhelming voted for the gov't to pull out of Iraq and there was a huge wave of voters that put Democrats back in Congress they still have rubberstamped every single one of Bush's policies. We need Green and Libertarian party representation by electing them to bust up this monopoly. Every gain from the 60's that was acquired through sweat, tears and BLOOD has been pushed back b those who would oppress us. People that acquired access to make changes instead co-opted the methods of the oppressor. Why would any person who opposes the war vote for a candidate that authorized it? Why would anyone dismiss the behavior and actions of an elected official who voted against their values in the past promise to do the exact opposite when they are running for office again and BELIEVE THEM? Isn't the proof in the pudding? Some of us are looking for a Messiah to save us when we are the ones who need to save ourselves. WE ALLOW POLITICIANS TO SET POLICIES THAT HURT US! That is the single most important thing I have come to realize during this election cycle. We are in this mess because we either chose it by our actions or inactions. Our gov't has sanctioned torture, violates our rights by spying on us and doesn't respond to our own crisis. We have mass unemployment, our neighborhoods are crumbling and we can barely get an education. Why do we have to take out predatory loans for school? Why isn't the gov't providing adequate funding? Because we allow it! We should be taking to the streets, strategizing, organizing and realigning our thought processes and stop allowing others to manipulate us or pull on our emotions or fears. There is a candidate that has touched on this but one person can only do so much IF they get to the position of being able to do anything. Most of us already know this and I don't have all the answers nor am I criticizing everyone but I know this is our defining moment. I want to DO SOMETHING!

One of Clinton million dollar donors has sued her for campaign finance fraud and after 6 YEARS of delays the case is being tried in CA right now! Total corporate media blackout of it though. Rezco has given money to the Clintons and plenty of other politicians. That is part of the problem with the corporate and lobby interests interfering with how this country operates. With all due respect Jill I totally disagree with your post. The last thing Obama should do is align himself with a white religious leader. And screw those polls. Polls are not conducted with impartiality. People need to vote their values and if they are so quick to be manipulated and let fear overrule common sense who's to say they were going to vote for Obama in the end anyway. People who get it have decided. People with questions can have them answered. Everything Rev Wright was true whether people [white, black or other] want to believe it or not. The US owes so much money to China and other foreign countries that if they called their markers we'd be toast. The Bush administration is funding covert military ops on Iran right now hoping it will escalate into something just in time for the general election. The US dollar is now worth less than the Canadian dollar. Yet Clinton News Network STILL wants to talk about Wright. Hello? This is the time we need to be using our highest critical thinking skills and get adequate and diverse sources of information from legitimate places, NOT THE CORPORATE MEDIA. Let's stop regurgitating the same talking points with an opinion slapped on top. Let's take control of our future - we can't control the outcome completely but let's break away from being reactive and start being proactive.

These Black organizations were founded and co-founded mostly by white people who used their influence as a means of increasing political standing for themselves and their interests and once acquired abandoned them. It's so telling how those so closely tied to Civil Rights Industrial Complex who are left have aligned themselves with Clinton and are seen as ineffective by the generation that proceeded them. They're all jockeying for crumbs and a few favors instead creating a new path. They've joined the oppressor and co-opted that message and floundered in mediocrity and have lost their focus. I guess I also shouldn't discount the very real threat of physical violence as a number of people flaws and all were killed by factions of the gov't as well. But..that happens to people all over the world for the sake of maintaining a particular status quo. We need to expose it.

Besides, the gov't HAS conducted all sorts of testing without the knowledge or permission of people. A lot has been declassified while a lot has not. Rev. Wright was correct in his assessments and I always deferred to his knowledge because I figured he had plenty of access to documentation the average citizen would not know about as a veteran. I think some would not want to listen who know better while others don't want to hear from a Black man, while others just don't want to believe it's possible. It was right on the money. It is a major problem I have with Obama. I especially do NOT like the way he did not come to Michelle's defense. It sets a tone that Black women aren't worth fighting for. I believe he has let some things go that he should have taken a stand for. Axelrod even said something about Michelle giving some of the campaign staff heartburn. WTF was that all about! I think he'd be more compromising in ways that would turn off Black voters if not for Michelle and some of his staff. I guess he really believes in the reconciliation aspects of racial harmony because he was raised by white people and being considered talented and attractive allows for more positive experiences. He does not react well to people being openly hostile to him, he retreats and gets intellectual. He did repudiate Rev Wright but I could see the pained expression on his face. I don't think he wanted to do it where as the Clintons would have done it immediately. I think as the years of political life wear on him he'll learn to toughen up a bit more - I hope!

I wasn't asking him to fight for all Black women but the attack on Michelle is indicative of the devaluing of Black women as a whole. And she is his wife and he should have said something in response to O'Reilly talking about putting together a lynching party for her! Even Bush condemned lynching recently in response to the Jena Six case. One sentence would have adequately addressed it - besides her words were intentionally misconstrued. Their could have been a clarification. He could have said he was running for office not his wife and there are some lines that should not crossed - perhaps some of those wimpy accusations wouldn't have the weight they do if he had.

I like Michelle Robinson Obama. I fail to see how her saying she was really proud of her country set off such a firestorm as it has been discussed and misappropriated a thousand times over. We already know 'they' will be gunning for her because she is a tall, attractive, Black woman who is comfortable with herself, intelligent and formidable. Hmmm...sorta like how Hillary was demonized during Bill's run. I don't see her jockeying for a co-Presidency however. Someone commented on another blog that 'they' will try to prove - and it's a little vulgar but accurate - that "her vagina has teeth". We know there will be criticism, but there will be criticism of Cindy McCain as well. She needs to release her tax returns. We need to reveal how the 'Maverick' left his disabled first wife who stood by his cheating self when he was a POW and left her for a younger heiress whose family money and connections bought him his Senate seat! All those so-called feminists will need to rally around Michelle. We'll see if they'll be just as ferocious a supporter of Michelle as they have been for Hillary. She will make an excellent First Lady. And yes I have beef with Barack over not defending his wife too and wrote a long post on his campaign website about it some time ago. It's a separate issue but needs equal attention to how the image of Black women has taken such a beating and the ways we can stand up for real change and stop demonizing our women and girls.

I have to make a comment about your referencing Clinton as the Borq Queen. I think it would be best to keep the mocking names to a minimum just to maintain a level of professionalism. I really enjoy reading this blog and am an enthusiastic Obama supporter, but it does a disservice to the readers to refer to Clinton that way. She has MANY undesirable qualities and has made a lot of bad policy choices but we already know that! There may be lurkers who will be turned off by what they'd view as a personal or sexist attack on Clinton. And we are above that. Individual comments are anything goes but I expect more from the content providers.

I think the bigger picture is the true elitism of the super-rich who come up with all these very interesting but obvious ways to fan the flames along class, gender, ethnicity, geography, and whatever other form of categorization they can come up with to keep the masses fighting amongst themselves to jockey for head-victim-in-charge. If people would wake up and realize who the REAL ENEMY is we would not be having these problems. If you didn't link these articles I wouldn't even know who these writers were. I'm not sure the quality of my life has improved one iota after skimming through that piece of trash written by Parker. It's time to vet McCain and yes his wife as well. She's worth more than $100M she can take it. His Senate seat was bought and paid for. He wants to repeal Roe v. Wade and for women to get more education if they want equal pay but if you serve in the military you get an inadequate GI Bill and no help from the VA. Well he should not interfere while the case is in court. If he's in a position to negotiate with all parties afterwards then I'm sure he will. The Cherokees are trying to deny status to a chunk of people who are biracial or Black and claim Cherokee heritage. It seems like the Cherokees are particularly insular about this. Both of my great-mothers were Cherokee, so I know there was a lot of relationships between Blacks and Cherokees. I don't think they should engage in openly discriminatory practices and still receive federal funding.

You don't mention the history of the region, how the US & UK remade the borders to cause maximum strife or the intent behind those actions. Iraq had rulers that the they deemed unfriendly to "Western" purposes and took them out to install their own people who they thought they could control. Eventually these dictators turn on the US and then the US decides they're 'bad' and must 'liberate' people. It's BS! And those soldiers would not have their stories verified by the military unless there was going to be a court-martial procedure against them. I am certain they did all the horrible things they've claimed to do - but what they've done is not unique unfortunately. There has not been enough discussion about the women serving in the military who've been raped and abused while serving either. War is Hell! Why do you think so many people come back with PTSD?

Also past actions tend to favor future actions. You can't ignore something because it makes you uncomfortable or doesn't fit in your limited viewpoints on a subject. I have family that has served and there are some things people never want to talk about in the open about unnecessarily bring harm to civilians and sometimes other soldiers. These themes have been plot devices in movies as well. The writers weren't just pulling ideas out of thin air either. And if I was accused of doing something I didn't do I'd be upset but trust in the system. It is far more likely that the opposite occurs where violations go unreported. Fighting for independence from tyranny and colonialism and looting a nation of its resources are not the same thing.

I am very grateful for your contribution to this blog. I've only been reading political blogs for 4 months so it's nice to be able to look at an easily digestible report than pouring through voting records. I didn't see Obama on the 2008 report card - or did I miss something? I also noted Barbara Lee still in the top percentile at least! I remember when she voted against the war and I think was the only Congressional level official to do so. I also noticed Tubbs-Jones' low score. I believe her time has been spent on other things lately.

Town I agree with you on your post about holding Black politicians accountable, et al Tubbs-Jones. If she was being held accountable she'd be preparing herself to be elected out of office. I think in a perfect world Obama would have been more than content to stay at Trinity had he been left in peace to do so. He had to cut the ties. Someone mentioned MLK and Malcolm X. If this was today's political environment MLK's gay advisor and his extra-marital activities would have on 24 hr loop and what compromises would he have had to make? And he may not have been an elected official but he was definitely engaged in political activity. I seriously wonder if we were in similar situations would we be the subject of discussion and criticizing in the same manner? Would the hard decisions be topic for fodder? I wish Obama would be more proactive in these situations and I do see it as a weakness but I don't measure it as equal to say caving to pressure about signing Welfare to Work, or Don't Ask Don't Tell, or NAFTA, or broadening the Telecommunications Act and allowing one company to own 7 forms of media in one market, or the drug sentencing laws, or a host of other things that cause irreparable harm. I am reminded that though I am very enthusiastic about an Obama presidency he is just a man, not my personal savior and I will be disappointed in him. If we are more strategic and uncompromising in our support and work toward similar goals [cuz everyone isn't going to agree] we can bring about some positive changes in this country that meet OUR needs.

Well Terrence you may be making blanket assumptions. I voted for Obama because of his anti-war policy not for the church he went to. For some people their relationship with church is very important and they may project that onto Obama or posit how they'd like to see it handled. Clearly this is important to some people and if they use it as a litmus test then it is of value to them. That doesn't mean they won't support his candidacy. Heck we put Obama in the position of getting the nomination. We would do well to remind him of that, but he has astute advisors and they all know this. I actually have a little more respect for Jessie Jackson now that I know he was responsible for drawing up delegate allocations. Our vote has been taken for granted. WE let that happen. We're the younger generation who've had our elders' initial gains be subjugated, thwarted and thrown away. The old-timers don't want to pas the mantle so we're going to have to show them door. It will be done gently or with force but it must be done if we want to see beneficial changes.

Ok about the Father Pfleger situation: he made a few valid points, but he was preaching to the choir. He made fun of her in an insulting way. He is supposed to be representative of God. His behavior did not reflect that. Now if it had been Chris Rock doing a routine that would have been different. If he was going to go there he should have been speaking to a white audience. It is they who need the education on white privilege not us!

I would be VERY disappointed if Obama even thought about choosing Clinton as his VP. I'm not ready to make nice, I'm not ready to back down. Clinton has not earned the VP slot. She has to make serious amends to the entire Black community or we will reject her. And yes I would rethink my support of Obama if he picked her. I could not be sure he'd have my best interests in mind in being elected. It wouldn't vote for McCain but I would look into a 3rd party candidate.

The Black vote is primarily the Black FEMALE vote statistically. I will not let my vote by taken for granted - even by Obama.

Dr. Rice totally understands the dynamic of our contributions to this country. She has a different political ideology. If Dr. Rice had decided to disagree with Bush she would've had to leave office like Colin Powell, but even he compromised before that. Did anybody seriously believe him when he went before the UN? I didn't. Any blame lies squarely with us and we have to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Over the course of the last 16 months, I have been privileged and touched to witness the incredible dedication and sacrifice of so many people working for our campaign. Every minute you put into helping us win, every dollar you gave to keep up the fight meant more to me than I can ever possibly tell you.

On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans.

I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.

When I decided to run for president, I knew exactly why I was getting into this race: to work hard every day for the millions of Americans who need a voice in the White House.

I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.

I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.

I know as I continue my lifelong work for a stronger America and a better world, I will turn to you for the support, the strength, and the commitment that you have shown me in the past 16 months. And I will always keep faith with the issues and causes that are important to you.

In the past few days, you have shown that support once again with hundreds of thousands of messages to the campaign, and again, I am touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.

I can never possibly express my gratitude, so let me say simply, thank you.

Clinton wants help paying off her debts. But she doesn't deserve it!

"The urgency for Clinton, 60, is she has until the Aug. 25-28 Democratic convention to pay off her $11.4 million personal loan. Otherwise, by law she can recoup no more than $250,000.

The rule banning Clinton from paying herself back after the nominating convention is part of a 2002 campaign-finance law co- sponsored by Obama's Republican rival for the presidency, Senator John McCain of Arizona. The law had several provisions to make it more difficult for people to finance their own campaigns.

Clinton has until the convention "to raise money to retire the loan or else she will have made an $11 million contribution to her campaign,'' former Federal Election Commission Chairman Michael Toner said.

Unlike the rules for her personal loan, Clinton can tap her Senate campaign account to pay off the vendor debts. While the account had $277,480 as of March 31, she could ask the donors who gave her $23 million for the general election if they would be willing to re-designate that money for her 2012 Senate re- election campaign. That would give her more than enough cash to repay everyone but herself. "

Hmm let's see.

1. Clinton using Bob Johnson as a surrogate. I knew how out of touch she was with Black people - at least the younger ones.

2. Obama's web presence was on point. His logo, his slogan, everything.

3. Michelle Obama. Aside from his anti-war position, it was her and his daughters. It's symbolism for sure but it is a powerful one.

4. The discipline of the campaign especially when it got really tough.

5. The dap at the nomination. It was great to see how much they love each other.

This Saturday, Hillary Clinton has promised to admit what everyone already knows: that Democratic nomination as the POTUS is no longer within her reach. She is saying that she will endorse Barack Obama and will campaign for him.

Sadly, her exit from the race has lost it's moment to become a unifying, energizing event -- and instead, the acrimony in the Democratic Party has soared to the highest levels ever. Black women and white women now eye each other with the highest levels of suspicion.

Hillary Clinton's persona is even more polarizing today that it was before she entered this race.

I hope that can change. The only way for the Democratic party to heal it's deep rift would be for Hillary to quickly make this transition from nomination candidate to Obama champion... but I find it hard to believe that she could really do that.

I do not believe that she thinks that Obama is cut out for the job of POTUS, and wonder how she could suddenly become an Obama champion after claiming many times that he was inexperienced and would not be ready to lead.

Like my reader Faith, I hope that Hillary Clinton's concession speech will be the Speech of Hillary's Life, one that will stop the bleeding in the Democratic Party, and begin to rehabilitate her relationship to the many Democrats who were hurt by things she and her surrogates have said and done.

She must also find a way to soothe the hurt feelings of her own supporters, because many of them are so deeply upset by this loss that they will not be able to hear anything that Mr. Obama has to say. Right now, I am actually hearing a few accusations of sexism and reverse racism because of my rant against her yesterday. My my my... I guess sexism and outright racism is something that black women couldn't possibly know anything about.

This rift between black women and white women should never have happened, and that division was caused by HRC herself. She MUST own that.

Hillary Clinton could have been the next President of the United States, but it was not sexism or reverse racism that kept her from capturing that title, although those two evils did rear their heads during this race.

Mrs. Clinton lost because she did nothing to curb racist innuendo against Barack Obama, but demanded that he immediately curb sexist innuendo against her.

Mrs. Clinton lost because she underestimated how seriously black women take racial injury, and was slow on the uptake to address statements made by her surrogates that were racially tinged.

Mrs. Clinton lost because she has many 'old guard' black male politicians on her team -- who are precisely the kind of people that black women are sick of.

Mrs. Clinton lost because she tried to run a Karl Rove-esque campaign, which would have worked with right-wing Republicans, but never with Democrats. If Democrats wanted Republican methods, they would have become Republicans. That should have been obvious to her strategists.

Hillary Clinton's good ideas (and there were many) were eclipsed by personal pot shots against her opponent, ugly innuendo and doublespeak by her surrogates , and poor logistical mobilization. Those things, combined with a constantly changing message, and took her down.

To simply claim that it was sexism and reverse racism is a cop out.

The fact that Bob Johnson (founder of BET) was the first voice out of the gate yesterday morning, proved to me that Hillary Clinton truly doesn't get it when it comes to black women. Her deep commitment to Bob Johnson sealed my opposition to this woman and made me write the first rant on this blog.

To send the black man who became a billionaire by lifting black minstrelsy and black female exploitation to a world stage, and to allow him to try to strong-arm blacks in Congress into supporting her VP bid was a slap in our faces.

Bob Johnson wasn't making a 'suggestion' to the CBC. He was basically telling them that their gravy train would stop if they didn't support Hillary Clinton as VP.

This talk about Hillary not sending him is nonsense. Nobody can convince me that The Greatest Negro Opportunist of All Time made that move out of the goodness of his heart. He did it because he had something to gain by a Clinton presidency. That fact alone seals it for me that the Democrats made the right choice.

My warning to the CBC: you should not have been taking that man's money in the first place. We will not forget if you give this man any sway in politics.

This is my last post on Hillary Clinton's poorly run campaign. I hope that she can make the transition from candidate to champion for ALL women, and not just white ones.

The first thing that she can do to mend fences between black and white women is fire Bob Johnson from her inner circle, and denounce the exploitation of and violence against black women and girls done by his evil work. (And I hope that you're taking notes, Barack, because you're next!)

Let's move on and allow the rift to be repaired.

Yep and everyone will soon realize the brilliance of Dean's 50 State Strategy and Obama running the party. Clinton was told she was on her own by Charles Rangel and the entire NY Congressional wing. Even Tubbs-Jones was on tv being congenial. If Clinton had won the Dems might as well had been Repubs for all the good it would've done. Obama pulled the party back from the brink of destruction! I love how he's going to diminish the influence of the PACs and lobbyists. Anyone who thought he was weak will see how foolish it was to underestimate him.

Ok now that we've got our man, what do we want?

Yup! If we have anything to learn from this primary is how much we need to learn about exercising and wielding power. We need to learn the game, the rules, know the players, the real power brokers and what we want. Anyone who is concerned about Obama not addressing 'Black' issues would do well to note how we delivered the nomination to him, but we didn't ask for anything in return. This is wonderful symbolism but it needs to more than integration. We need to be equal players seated at the table. If we don't then everybody else will be lined up and we'll get the door.

I wonder if Obama was counting on Black support after he proved himself capable of winning in Iowa and how much the behavior of the Clintons played into the mass exodus. I don't want him taking the Black vote for granted anymore than them.

You know this story is kinda old and since Spike Lee said it during Cannes he got a rather wide audience when lodging his complaint. He was also promoting his latest film. He is famous, male and wealthy and will be just fine.

How about a post on songwriter Tanya White who was thrown out of the Beverly Hills Hotel and referred to as an 'it'. She is a lesbian and African American.

Or how about focusing on the death of Mildred Beaubrun. Where is the outrage about this young woman being killed by some idiots for not wanting to give them her phone number!

It's really time to give equal consideration to the struggles and attacks on Black women be they by whites or Black men and stop spending so much time focusing on the plight on the oppressed Black male theme.

The core issue is the lack of equal representation in front of and behind the camera of stories of quality and interest about men and women of color. Studios are rejecting stories that would universal appeal because they won't look past their own limited views. It's why Sex and the City's box office numbers are a "surprise" even though it stars a cast of white women, change the race of characters if they do greenlight a movie or perpetuate the same tired stories that employ a level of exploitation.

Also there is an intentional revisionist history at play in the stories that are told because the screenwriters and directors only choose to focus on limited themes. Taking the Eastwood/Lee debate if you evaluated the long list of war movies you would find the majority of them are focused on the contributions of and situations involving white men. There is an absence of a BALANCE. For example - How many people went into the film Windtalkers knowing the US gov't used Navajo military personnel as code breakers?

Media provides a powerful means of shaping opinions - as we have seen throughout this campaign.

As divisive as the Clintons were it did not work! I will give Obama credit for his view that thing are not static - at least in this situation. If it had been a diffrent election cycle or a few years ago it would have derailed his campaign. Some of the Clinton voters get it though I will never understand how someone remained a supporter considering all of the deplorable things they did. Had Obama used similar tactics I would not have let it slide. Clinton did more damage than any Republican simply because it was assumed that they were 'bad' and Democrats are 'good'. Now that all pretenses are gone, all prejudices have been revealed, Black people can take comfort in knowing where we stand, how our loyalty has been viewed and think about the value we place in giving our loyalty without conditions. From this point forward we need to give serious consideration to our future, exercising political acumen and strategy and how will we implement that. Black women especially need to do so because the focus is still on wooing older white female voters or on whether sexism dominated the campaign with no serious discussion about the impact of how it was used by by some white women to subjugate Black women. Since 6 out of 10 Black voters are women our contribution to securing the nomination for Obama should receive the proper acknowledgment and we should be thinking about how we want this to benefit us in meeting our needs and not be taken for granted.

The Color of an Awkward Conversation was spot on!

I have no links to share just good vibes from the Erykah Badu show I was at this evening. She gave a nice interlude to have a spiritual/political conversation about how we can all join together to make the world better. She also talked about the vortex phenomena in relation to its affect on people. It was part art installation, concert and a combination of several of her influences. Definitely not like her other shows.

I was just scrolling down the comments and was going to post the same thing. Tim Wise is telling the 'truth', but it is related to issues from the perspective of a white supremacy meme. So yes when we read his works he is preaching to the choir for the most part because we already know this. It is helpful for him to address white audiences and I would like to know how these issues will be resolved to our satisfaction. On one hand you could look at it as him being an anti-racism 'hustler'. If he was given special attention over other people of color saying the same things then it would be a perpetuation of that same meme he is denigrating. Like Obama has said racism is not static. As painful and uncomfortable as this all is, it's necessary so we can take steps past it, while still holding people accountable.

I know some people over there and they have not returned yet. I do know that they want out. And yes we can blame the Dumbocrats for going along with the Rethugs though it was Bush that lied and doctored the information. We can also blame a large chunk of the country as well as some citizens didn't question anything, some people like serving in armed services but would probably rethink being deployed willy-nilly and other people who were always opposed had to protest in a hostile environment where they were marginalized. I was in the UK and let me tell you people were not happy with the US gov't. I totally understood how the Dixie Chicks ended up getting flak for what Natalie Maines said but they were touring Europe at the time. Unlike here the news was balanced in their coverage and showed civilian casualties and injuries on tv and in print as well as the opposing position against Tony Blair.

How about a bi-monthly blog show? I do like the idea of being able to post diaries - however the open forums do allow for input. There's a certain level of professionalism I enjoy and wouldn't want the quality or the direction of this blog to change too much. An expanded comment section with easier navigation would be good. OT - You know I've seen 2-3 movies this past week with white people giving each other dap that I hadn't noticed before.

Why this would be a surprise to anyone just shows how easily snowed they've been by favorable media coverage of McCain. I'm curious what all the disgruntled Hillary supporters who claim they'll vote for him have to say about this? Or if these are a serious number of voters or another manipulation by the corporate media to create rifts that would help their candidate.

There wouldn't be so many negative perceptions if so many Black people had not spiraled out of control. If we allow any criticism from others to stop us from addressing some serious pathologies then we as a people are lost! Why are so many women commentators the ones soooo offended by having Black men taken to task? Do any of you make excuses for less than stellar behavior? Do you 'love' the boys and 'raise' the girls? That's sexism 101 people. Would you rather hear yet another speech, article, or claim that it is Black women at fault? This is not defend the Black man battle. Where are they? Do you see them defending Black women with such fervor? [CRICKETS]. If it doesn't apply to you or any one you know then why be so offended? This is a problem and it should be addressed. Racism does not cause a man to impregnate a woman and disappear. Yes there are economic factors at play and external obstacles that make things difficult. Does that absolve people from all responsibility? Lack of affordable child-care doesn't stop people from having them. Some of you are reacting emotionally and not thinking critically. This isn't about white people or pandering to conservatives! Obama didn't have his own father around when he grew up though he did have his step-father for a time but mainly his grandfather. Perhaps he is speaking from personal experience. Maybe he would have liked to have had his father around more.

Here's one part that I think everyone can agree with:

“The second thing we need to do as fathers is pass along the value of empathy to our children. Not sympathy, but empathy — the ability to stand in somebody else’s shoes; to look at the world through their eyes.”

So how is that pandering, criticizing or demonizing?

Yeah I lived in the UK where the Asian population rivals the African population as far as 'integration' goes. In Europe discrimination is legal and very obvious. I got treated better in France being Black American - speaking the language with an accent -than native populations living there. In Ireland because the populations of Africans emigrating there are more self-sufficient they are more welcomed than say some of the Eastern Europeans who beg for money on the streets. I'm curious what it's like in Asia.

I took an anthropology class and the first thing we discussed was how the population of Africa comprised of many 'looks' from the beginning: darker skin, lighter skin, body shapes, hair textures, eye color etc. It wasn't assimilation or intermingling that caused the variety because genetically we're the same - except for gender.

LOL at the View. I will lift my permanent ban to watch Michelle tomorrow but they all really pissed me off with their blatant and biased coverage during the primary. I'm not surprised by Barbara WaWa's behavior. She has always pandered to women of color - perhaps Oprah is the one exception.

Well I saw a Faux News report that was critical of McCain wife #2's penchant for stealing recipes. I couldn't believe it! On Hannity & Colmes no less. I wouldn't buy into some articles that paint a picture of Michelle having to change who she is or deciphering her moods. There are articles that claimed Oprah's ratings were going down due to her support of Obama instead of having a balanced discussion about how all mass media has taken a hit in ratings - even Faux news. She clearly knows how to be personable and speak to large swaths of people. She's been doing it this entire campaign season. She doesn't come across as direct as Hillary was when Bill first ran and she doesn't talk about herself incessantly like Tyra. I'm sure she's fine and will be fine on tomorrow's show. It's the View people not Meet the Press - which is where I'd love to see her.

Okaaay. Well I don't agree that Barack has 'vigorously' defended Michelle. He certainly let a LOT of things go during the primary. I have yet to hear him denounce Bill O'Liely for the lynching comments. I do find it interesting that he is being more proactive NOW and I agree he should call out McCain. But he doesn't get kudos for it. It's what he's supposed to be doing! If he had not I would have had a difficult time supporting him.

Why am I not surprised? Hey - and no dissing Ayn Rand!! I'd love to be able to escape to my own self-sufficient private world. They were trying to be so slick about it too. It's also a lesson in doing due diligence. I do not give money to any organization that uses more than 10% towards administrative costs or other earmarks. For example, I used to give to United Way until I found out the top officials were giving themselves huge bonuses.

I understand people are upset about FISA, but Obama never supported blanket immunity. And it is Bush, the united Rethugs and the cow-towing Dumbocrats that allowed this to happen - and don't forget all the people that voted for Bush in 2004 and/or had not been politically active. So I just think calmer heads need to prevail. It's just a bad situation all around. Apparently lot of people are going to be disappointed if they think Obama is as liberal as a Bill Bradley or going to be able to please everyone 100%. There are plenty of people who want Obama to denounce marriage being categorized as between a man and a woman. I think it is important to pick one's battles and try to look at the big picture. I know that some polls show Obama ahead and the corporate media is downplaying that. I wouldn't rely on the numbers from any sources inasmuch as this election is not a given for Obama. He has to play to win. He could say everything people want and possibly mean it and still not win - then what? Will the emotional affirmation be enough? I think regardless of these issues an Obama administration WILL be better than a Bush or McCain one so everyone needs to get to working for the campaign and let your voices be heard. Just know that it isn't utopia, perfect or even how you assume it will be. It will be different and still sufficient as long as people remain flexible. Unless some bottom line has been crossed and then you should look into supporting another candidate who can meet those needs.

Good comment lexusoakland. I read Al's post and I agree. People - some people - will very easily let themselves be led astray by their expectations and emotions and put it on Obama for not living up to them. There are things that he should be held accountable for and then there's maintaining the full scope of reality. I look back at how the Civil Right's Act passed. It wasn't the one LBJ wanted. It was better. It took a lot of people getting their asses kicked and people being killed. Pressure had to be exerted and he complained about it but it had passed both Houses so it was sign...or veto. I see the abuses that occurred with FISA and I see how many people want a gay marriage referendum. If Clinton had been the nominee she would have done the same thing. And you know McCain could care less. Obama is not that liberal. I've looked at his voting record and find a lot I agree with and some things I don't. I'd rather have some sense of balance in the gov't than the insanity of the last 2 presidents. Yes, I'm throwing Clinton in the mix because he signed quite a few things into law that have hurt the economy. It just opened everything for Bush to steal everything that wasn't nailed down and torch the house so to speak.

I was not speaking of specifics per se, just that people have had an emotional response to Obama and now for some he's 'letting them down' or 'pissing them off'.

1. Messiah complex - there is no savior.

2. Assuming his agenda is 'liberal' or 'progressive' and not defining what that means - or assuming it means something specific. It is something different for everyone, so without one specific set of ifs, ands or buts who considers themselves being heard and who doesn't?

3. No understanding of how the government operates and expecting outcomes specific to a set of circumstances falling into place.

4. Thinking 'change' means wiping the slate clean or starting over from scratch. I think the entire system is flawed and was broken back when the Founding Fathers: stole people and enslaved them, used the income to fund their own war of independence from another 'oppressor' and actively enacted laws that kept slavery in place in violation of ignored laws opposing it.

I know people are attached to the Constitution but they intentionally discounted people from participating and benefitting from it's laws. So people today hold it up as this pillar when it has rarely been used in its entirety in the first place.

5. Free market vs. Capitalism vs. Regulation vs. De-regulation vs. 'No Big Gov't vs. Corporate Welfare, Earmarks and Kickbacks. Union-busting vs. NAFTA

Living Wage vs. Minimum Wage.

Why the Federal Reserve wields so much power with no oversight.

Why we feel entitled to our lifestyle without accepting responsibility of the actions required to support it.

ex. people who support a vegan lifestyle and oppose animal abuse [and make it into a moral and/or political issue and have an air of superiority about "doing the right thing"] but don't consider the lives of the migrant workers who toil to make fruits/veggies available.

6. FISA rules being followed, being broken, the illusion that citizens are not to spied upon, but historically how the gov't has always spied on people; see MLK, Malcolm X, Black Panthers, Anti-War groups, Hoover. I've heard certain words are coded and get flagged and that we are in fact being monitored all the time.

7. How much power we abdicate.

Do I think an Obama presidency will be good? Yes. Will MY needs be met? That is yet to be determined. It comes down to exacting a value to my support. Black people have been giving it away for NOTHING in return but a hope and a sense of fairness.

AIPAC doesn't care about what's 'fair' they want certain actions to be taken even though a larger group of people want something different. But you see who gets catered to? We have to be like that. And it would be great for some balance while we're at it.

So that was long but this is off the top of my head.

That was great! I can't believe Majora Carter is 42 - she doesn't look a day over 27. Glad to see Pete Seeger still being as feisty as ever. It shows how with the passage of time perceptions about things and people can change. He was once vilified and now he is lauded as an elder statesman.

The one thing that stood out for me was how you pick your battles and start off with something small. I don't people realize the amount of work and the application of timing that requires patience in order to see 'change' occur. We're on the sidelines watching, cheering or booing and are not necessarily in the trenches. Or if we are we may let ourselves get sidetracked by ego and jockeying for positioning or claiming victimhood status.

Knowing who one's allies are is key. Being able to determine who those allies are will make or break any movement.

Boy do I feel discouraged right now. We're being given a choice between two very flawed candidates. The other Party candidates are not available in all states. If the Clinton's hadn't behaved so despicably would 90% of Black voters gone to Obama? Would we be having this conversation with Clinton as the nominee right now - and with such vigor?

You know if there weren't so many racist attacks still going on it would be easier to separate the small symbolic component that is there. I recognize it but will not ignore things. It's just like having a splinter. Things didn't get so messed up overnight and they won't be resolved overnight. There are people Obama [and the other 100+ Democrats] have to answer to because the foundation is and has always been FLAWED - we just need to make sure our voice is the one heard the loudest! The vote is in a few days. We still have time, but if we lose this time let this be a lesson for vigilance.

Politicians are not working for our interests when their ears are being bent by those who seek to undermine us at every turn.

One immediate course of action people can take is to divest yourself from consumer support of these companies. AT&T; was the worst perpetrator. Pick a new cell phone company like Credo or T-Mobile who did not violate FISA. They can't spy on you if you're not a customer. They should not be rewarded for foul behavior. Get the ACLU involved, try to get the cancellation fee waived, put it on YouTube, have a manifesto presented as to why millions of people are doing it.

Is it millions of people upset by this or a few thousand of the 'activist wing' as Clinton called it? Will it be enough to make some people back down? We should find out!

When I lived abroad and came back to the US the first 2 years I was flagged for random searches every time I went to the airport but do you think I believed that? No I figured I was on somebody's 'list'. Or flying while Black.

I still say these FISA violations have been going on since..forever. It can be couched as national security or whatever but I am not at all shocked or surprised by it. This is the history of this country to say one thing putting forth a set of ideals and to do the exact opposite.

India doesn't allow RIM Blackberry service because they can't tap into it yet.

You have been very clear about your feelings about Senator Obama, crying over the FISA rulings. Personally if I'm going to cry over something it is the treatment of women and children in peril in this country and Africa. If you want to engage in an emotional pissing contest to get your point across it isn't necessary. We all have our opinions and the right to express them but isn't there a point where we need to disengage instead of continually raising the stakes? Everyone clearly will not agree with each other. Your comment to Michelle sounded sarcastic and it detracts from having a more thorough discussion of issues. Do you have a blog that you can use as an outlet for expression? I'm not sure the comment section will satisfy you on this issue. Finally, what do you plan to do? I wrote in the comments yesterday about people disengaging from financially supporting the companies the violated FISA. Have you done that? Are you more invested in taking action or in arguing differences of opinions? We need to form alliances and agree on a course of action whether we share fundamental viewpoints or not.

And D- R Kelly has hardly been thrown under the bus. He may be have found innocent but he was guilty. If people valued the lives of Black women and girls the verdict would have reflected that. Some of his staunchest supporters have been other Black women. In no circumstances should a man in his 30's be allowed to have sex with a 14 year old. The end!

I guess part of the reason I am not as engaged in this is I have always believed the gov't was spying on people because of COINTELPRO and the McCarthy witch hunts and having a father who was a Black Panther and some relatives that work for the Federal Gov't. There have always been inroads for gov't officials to get around things when they want to do something. The difference now is that it's more obvious. I still see it as a natural progression in response to what has been happening in this country the past 30 years. Historically every world power implodes on itself and the time for the USA is coming.

I honestly have no idea. As long as there is profit to be made by inflicting pain on other people will things ever stop? They have lessened in many aspects but while the changes have elevated us it has encouraged a coordinated pushback. It's the same corporations that will take our money but use others to denigrate us. We don't have an established infrastructure set up to bypass them either. Also I think hindsight is 20/20 and Civil Rights fought for integration but not for equality. Or at least all of the assassinations discouraged a continued dialog, those that we left began looking out for themselves, got used to having a little bit of power for becoming overseers, people were left behind and here we are.

If Bill had run now I'm not sure he would've won. All of those women he assaulted and messed around with would have been front page and center. Personally I think the Obamas have more integrity. Nader got so many people engaged in what was to have been a progressive movement but after the 2000 and 2004 elections he just walked away. He didn't want to build a coalition, he wanted to be head guy in charge. He has done a lot of good things like with getting auto safety standards upgraded - but that was years ago! I'd be surprised that they have a problem with Obama's parentage by race alone. The earliest Black socialites did have white parentage - hence the paper bag test. OT - I'm watching Larry King right now and....let's see... he has a panel of women discussing the Obama Clinton fundraising event. There's this one segment that was just on and I'll call it 'racist white bitchfest'. A woman who claims to have been a Clinton supporter and works for a woman's group that solely focuses on sexism is supporting McCain. King asked her if she was pro-choice and against the war. Yes. Did she think Obama was guilty of sexism? 'Some of his surrogates were' was her reply. And she threw in the 'he's not qualified'. Ugh. At least the main panelists [both Dems & Repubs] disputed her tomfoolery. She was just trying to get participation in her group. Oh and she said she got a promise from McCain that he would appoint more women in his administration than any other previous one! Don't hold your breath, sweetie! Unless he means cleaning staff.

Obama has the patience of a saint. Diane Watson was the same person who claimed Hillary was going to emerge the Democratic nominee in a backroom deal at Denver, that Obama and his contemporaries could WAIT because it was Hill time now, and how once she gives you her word and loyalty that's it. We all know quite a few of those CBC hacks need to GO! And I'm watching CNN right now. I am sick of hearing about Billy Jeff's whining and temper tantrums. The symbolism of the Clinton era has been exposed as the fraud it has always been and nothing he does will get it back. It is not Obama's responsibility to do jack! And if Clinton thinks that Obama owes him anything it just shows how wrong he is. Wow I'm counting all the Black panelists between the King and Cooper and it's 3-4 in one night!!! Should I break out some champagne? And where has Amy Holmes been hiding?

You know I think a surgical strike is necessary. Beef up the FCC and start pulling the plug. Well heavy sanctions and souring all brand names associated with the products advertised during these segments. Clinton helped put it into play but Bush had all these years let his cronies run amuck. I used to watch Bill O'Reilly in 2000 and I don't remember him being the ass he is now. Don't leave weeds unattended and they won't grow.

Obama might surprise everyone with someone that has not been considered. I don't want Edwards and Clarke is not even being considered. I was watching CNN for the first time in 3 weeks and they were trying to push that Clinton as VP bs. NO!!!!!

Yeah I think there's a purpose behind Obama's handling of this most recent FISA legislation. Perhaps there's a bait and switch plan at play that will be revealed. Would everyone who reacted so negatively then 'apologize'? Or Obama could just be making a 'bad' choice, but I still think the entire foundation is cracked and filling a few sandbags on top of it won't change that.

Ok Anon - create a name for yourself and stop being lazy. If you want to have a REAL conversation don't do it in an underhanded manner. You've brought this up in several threads and ignored the fact that we have discussed this issue in previous posts. Your entire premise is faulty when you've written more than once that people don't want to discuss your issues. Either you want to have a conversation - which you will then need to respect the differing opinions of others that come here OR you're here acting as a troll trying to spread dissent. Either way your questions and comments have been replied to. Now move on. You can be part of a group but you need to approach us here with respect.
