in Drama vs. Helpfulness, how I will rebuild a friendship on Scobleizer
"Code isn’t dramatic. It either works, or it doesn’t."
Err i dont think you have ever worked on a big system when I worked on OSI ( Real Networking) a number of MTA's pointy black did not implement teh standard Sprint in particular where know for this. Micosoft gave up and canceled there MTA as they found it to hard :-)
More recently Cisco OSPF has some very wonky behaviors in certain edge conditions so teh corect answer to some CCNA question is it depends :-)
And when I was looking after the core part of a BT billing system (a humungous chunk of PL/1) for the UK arm of Dialcom sometimes you could fix bugs by recompiling the entire thing.

Why on earth would you go with a Nike persons recomendations they dont do Bikes ? a bike is such a pysical thing you need to get off your tush and go down to coupel of decent bike stores and try them.
id say a front suspention dont bother with disk brakes for say £400-500 which is say $800-950
I prefer proper sti thumbshifters SLX or LX
If your traveling a lot look into bromptons (folding bikes) if I commuted to london again id be wanting one of the TI SL speced babys a shade over a grand.

in Why blogging comments suck on Scobleizer
@Matt Roberts right some comments are better or have more weight I am fairly sure that I had Vint Cerf comment on one of my blog posts that got a mention and link from vallywag (which was kinda cool) so id I would defiantly want to highlight that as I would if Alex Payne had wanted to reply.
maybe wordpress needs a comment voting system (probably limited to the author of the blog post) or sticky comment functionality (which I me sure could be done as a plugin)

Don't forget that mobile Phone companies are into walled gardens and still refer to customers as Subs and they will see the Iphone and G1 as threats.

I am a senior Lay rep for a tech union and that isn’t how it works out in Europe :-)
A large number of small business men are in favour in cutting red tape except where it benefits them.
And if large employers mean the average employee is better off what’s the problem. As FDR said Capitalism works as long as we all get a share.

I can think of only 3 or 4 posts that robert has done that are political at all and only this one which is a realy political one.
Its surprising that when any tech podcaster/bloger makes even the most mild political comment that would not be at all controversial in any european context they get a few to be frank nut jobs ranting about socialisiam :-)

RE tattooing Longo on head it’s when you get promoted to First Prime and have to have the gold version :-) now that’s serious
Back to the main point “Its the people stupid” to borrow a line from Bill Clinton.
And you can use ms word in a collaborative way though any document that has 10 people working on it at the same time is a doomed project..
And tele presence well Cisco will say that (they flog the kit) and for certain classes of meeting they can be very useful but nothing beats the mark1 eyeball and these high end systems the ones the solve the eyeline problem and not cheap and require dedicated rooms.

Btw why hasnt the republican party withdrawn the whip and kicked them out of the party at this point.

in First TC50 Suckage: Wifi at conference? on Scobleizer
@Andrew has it right doing wifi as the primary netacess for a very techie conference is going to be Very Very hard – this isn’t putting some kiddie Ap/Router in your home which any Sub can handle.
@yert
err I think your confused 802.11B/G only has 3 channels non overlapping 802.11A gets you 8 non overlapping channels cisco say 10-15 hosts per ap.
N just makes it even worse as it uses wider channels
So in a large room you to have to do some complex signal level adjustments to have non overlapping cells 802.11a makes it a lot easier as there are more channels.
After that you then get into roaming and mobile IP so you don’t lose a connection as you move from AP to AP.

in The political topic that must not be discussed in USA on Scobleizer
The main problem is that for a number of reasons the technical professions don’t go into politics - its noticeable that lawyers predominate – I remember discussing some new employment laws that where coming in and the General Consul I was talking to pointed out some of the areas of the law where there where major areas un certainty and he commented well makes works for their mates in the legal profession.
Politicians love to paint them selves as modern and certainly in the UK have a naive view of the ability of technology to solve soft human problems look at the blind faith in identity cards, child databases the Tony Blair and his followers have.

mm interesting a browser you control none of that pesky pay for play that you have to do with FF /safari.
Writing high quality software for a range of OS’s running on a very wide range of hardware is not the same as running a app with tightly controlled functionality on custom built hardware that you control it is a whole new ball game.
you can see down the line "oh sorry but that ad blocking plug-in you developed violates our "guidelines" - hear is the writ from our corporate lawyers "sue grabit and run"

in The best Fortune Brainstorm Tech Talk: Neil Young challenges tech industry on Scobleizer
yes its the compresion that makes a lot of modern music sound muddy.

I have had some extreme arguments on code format and don't get started on OO vs procedural code, however the code doesn't care, its a tool. Its the people that tie emotions into their tools that cause drama. Its been happening since the beginning of time and will continue to happen.
I am sure there was a big nasty discussion on whether limestone or obsidian made better hand axes. We need to realize that a tool is a tool and if it gets the job done its great, if there might be a better way, try suggesting and offering training to help rather than going with the "Your limestone sucks, can't you see my Obsidian is so much sharper, better and lighter, you noob".
Tools are great its, just we all form emotional attachments with them and hate it when someone says the above statement as it gets your defenses up.
