Haha... your laptop gives me seizures, Tris.
My old trusty Ubuntu laptop looks pretty good, though

I talked about my conundrum today on my podcast, Tris: http://affiliatefortunecookies.com/the-big-switch/
I really need to go across computers, but I can't get IMAP working correctly on Apple Mail.

I keep going back and forth on whether I want to use NetNewsWire or Google Reader (and GMail vs Apple Mail). Decisions, decisions!

Thanks, Benjamin... interesting site that I hadn't noticed yet. Definitely need to make further use of RSSmeme given that I live my life inside my feed reader!

Wilco is going to be on SNL on March 1, so they've bumped the Charleston show to August. Darn.

lol... thanks, LinkerJPatrick. Lost is probably my fav tv show and the analogy is perfect (as much as I hated Charlie and that song even though it was stuck in my head for weeks after first hearing it on the show).

Anonymous-
Sure, there have been a few minor changes and tweaks but the good stuff (faster loading, better contact manager, IMAP integration, more memory) seems to be coming all at once.

in Doctorow and Le Guin in Spat Over Fair Use on Sam Harrelson's Comment Forum
You're right, Josh... if anything this might help some people who read boingboing or Doctorow's work discover Le Guin or vice versa.
I recommend starting with the Earthsea series (of course), but all of her stuff (especially the short story "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas") is remarkable in my opinion!

in Narcissus Called… He Wants His Blogosphere Back on Sam Harrelson's Comment Forum
Good analogy, Andy (Beard)... but I think this is a little different than the metrics we use to measure the success of search campaigns.
Our campaigns, and the metrics we use to measure them or rate them, are based on performance. Quality is a component of those metrics, but even then quality is seen in the lens of performance.
On the other hand, measuring something like the quality of blogs or the blogosphere is different because there are many more variables besides just performance. Besides, what I think might be indicate good "performance" on a blog (comment quality, type of readership, passion about a subject, etc) might be markedly different than what someone thinks indicates performance on a blog such as ad money generated, feed subscriber numbers, page views, etc.
Thanks for dropping by, guys!

Good point about Cory copying the whole work over... a link or snippet (even though the work was short) would have sufficed and caused less grief.

in My Times - The Future of Newspapers on Sam Harrelson's Comment Forum
Oh I definitely think Netvibes is still better.. but this is a positive step in the right direction for a major media outlet to take.
Let people (non techies) get their hands dirty with modules, widgets and RSS in a very tame and safe environment and see what it can do for their content consumption... then (hopefully) they'll branch out to places like Netvibes.

in Gmail Competing with DotMac? on Final Tag
Great observation, Pranav! Hadn't even thought of that when I heard about the possible GMail expansion. Google and Apple are very close pals, so it would be interesting if there was something in the works for storage collaboration there.
I just hope it happens soon as my GMail account is reaching critical mass!

in 99.5 Percent Of All Wordpress Themes Suck on Jim Kukral
I think it's interesting that so many of the top Technorati 100 don't seem to care about things such as design or templates. We've had this convo off blog, Jim... but it is interesting to me that Scoble, Winer, Godin and even Rubel rely on either minimalist design or Wordpress.com/Typepad.com default styles. Scoble is still using a .wordpress.com site and he's the king blogger.
I've gone hyper-minimalist with my personal blog and do enjoy the freedom and the white space. Not sure what to do with CPN, though...
Great topic!

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans," Jeff (courtesy of Lennon).
I'm making about 5 times the amount of money now since I've adopted the "Play Method" compared to what I was making before.
Plus, with a baby on the way, I'm quickly realizing that as I approach 30 the impact that I make on this world will occur in those 30 minutes of play rather than those 30 minutes of work!
