in Vacationers experience less than ‘pure’ water at Michigan beaches on The Michigan Messenger
lake wobegon(s) not to mention the odd body part washing up every now and then also. for the last 32 yrs. I've lived on a shallow bay on northern Lake Michigan, and have spent numerous days walking the shoreline, trailing my little canoe, and filling it with everything from refrigerator doors to old tires, tons of visqueen, garbage bags, mylar ballons, fishing line, six pack holders, etc., to dispose of properly. The currents on this lake draws the refuse form Chicago, and even Milwaukee. now add to the slurry all the poisons from all the large tourist/golf "communities", add in the industrial poisons, the gas from all the jetskis and large powerboats. that's just the crap we know about, that's done "legal". and what does lansing do? not much. and we wonder why there's thick, foul smelling green sludge lining the shores.

in Couch potatoes vote for coal on The Michigan Messenger
old king coal maybe when the good consumer units of lansing, detroit,tri-cities can't see across the street, or take in a lungful of fresh air because of the smut caused by burning coal will they realize that something needs to be done. I spent a week in a small, beautiful Scottish village and everything there was kind of magical really, except for the noxious fumes that came from the Residents/businesses having to burn coal. And while the air pollution was on a small scale there, I cannot fathom why we would want/need it here, and on a scale that is dumbfounding to say the least. We cram every hill in this state w/butt ugly cellular towers, and anyone who can read knows that these phones can't be made without slave labor in the mines of Africa. Are we all that egoistic that we can't do without a few million of the damn phones, and maybe replace the fugly phone towers with a few fugly windmills? And maybe put a slave driven mining co. out of work? Driving west on Hwy.2 near St. Ignace you can see several windmills in place, and in my opinion they're a lot less ugly than the cellular towers, and they can produce something beneficial for All. Coal is not the answer, it's another toxic nightmare.Thank You E &MichMess.;

in Whoops. Polls on Michigan GOP homepage say “yes” to Obama, “no” to drilling on The Michigan Messenger
mrp's/wicked lies LoRayne, I wouldn't trust those assbags with anything. bush and accomplices are raping this Country,(not to mention Iraq/Afghanistan/rest of the World), for everything they can take, or steal. ignoring subpoenas,juking stats, owning the voting machines,, etc.are just the tip of the vile iceberg. what I can't understand is why the American people stand for this. If it weren't for cyber spots like this one, Common Dreams, the Wonderful Amy Goodman, and Naiomi Kline, there would be no Truth. Hope You are Well, and having Good Summer------k

in Compact may not stop water wars on The Michigan Messenger
brace yourselves we'll see water magnates, just like in oil. we'll see blood, and lives lost for water. I don't think it was accidental that blackwater/sovdeed are positioned where they are. look at the number of people in this world who do not have access to what we use/misuse criminally. we dump dioxins/leachate/feces, etc. in what God gave us to steward. we shamefully rape these Great Lakes every day. jetskis pollute worse than a city bus. we allow foreign species to invade the Lakes, and destroy what fish are left, which we cannot eat now due to mercury poisoning. the merc group poised to take over the airport in Pellston will take water from the beautiful Maple River, and the Inland Waterway also. This so-called compact is an obscene farce. I thought for several years that it would be my Grand Children that would suffer, but not any more. Unless we change radically, and CONSERVE, and CLEAN, and CARE. I won't bet on us...

in War pays well for some West Michigan companies on The Michigan Messenger
women sense my power Mandrake... I'd like to dive into blackwater's books, or dyncorp, their "real" books that is. the wire report today was that Iraq is not letting the 'contractors' have immunity. and as much as I'd love to see these bastards burned for their policy of "shoot first, then shoot again", I just don't see blackwater paying their bill(s). not in this Life anyways. a close Friend and Brother to me,(sniper/scout marine corps, swat/tactics officer, Man of the Cloth), and some other people had a discussion about Mercs,aka contractors, and they all agreed that, and this is the hard part to swallow, the Draft would have to be re-instated to rid our midst of them. I disagree. But whatever happens, we must preserve our bodily fluids. Peace on Earth, is it too much to ask for that? Thank You E.

in Sprawling theme park proposed for Grayling dogged by financial problems on The Michigan Messenger
remove the mote... Preachin' to the Choir, Sister! 200 some odd years ago, Major Rob't Rogers canoed his way thru the Great Lakes. One place in particular struck his eye, and touched his Soul,(if the xenophobe had one at all), and he named it Cedar Point. The grandeur of the old growth cedars did it. This was from a man who lived in the Border Land: a small enclave of Farmers and their families, dotting the forests of the North East, and the rugged wilderness between them and Canada. It had to have been Spectacular. I hurt for having that stolen from my Children and Grandchildren. These God awful hare brained schemes, and the uncontrolled growth up here are rapidly stealing what's left of the Splendor north of the 45th. Every time I have to go thru Petoskey, the sprawl is worse. McMansions and fast food joints are everywhere now practically. The big ass hole in downtown Petoskey is rapidly becoming the Auto World of Emmett County. What kind of infrastructure is that? The businesses that have a LIVABLE wage are few and far between. oops. been dribblin' at the lip again. one more thing though: I wanna poke my finger in the eye of the asshole who thinks up the goofy asscrack names of these subdivisions! Good Mornin' L.! Thank You E. and Mich. Mess.

fist bump that is not a fist bump. that is how republicans reproduce. similar to dragon flies, whose reproductive organs are in their nose, conservatives are in their knuckles. autoworld...again. state Forest Land. FBI probes. Shady lending practices. These guys should just open "SandBox World" in the bighole in Petoskey. Maybe have barret moore act as m.c.: "Step right up and get a free FACEMASK for the kiddies! be sure and leave your kitties at home people...". Main Street America. Which main street are they going to represent? Flint? Benton Harbor? oh wait! There's a project going on down there all ready. Maybe bay harbor will qualify. Why is it always a huge, gaudy, tawdry, ugly abscess like this that gets the go ahead? How about real investment in the Future of Michigan, like straitening out the fiasco in the State's schools? Some realistic tax relief FOR THE WORKERS. Excellent Reporting. Thanks E. and Mich. Messenger.

tolerance Excellent article Todd-
I think Jesus would be tipping over tables again, should He come back, and all the TV cameras in the temples would be catching it. I remember a dear Sweet Elderly Lady who taught me Scriptures as a child,(eons ago), and one of the Lessons taught to all us shining faced little cherubs, was the love that the Savior gave those people shunned by the so called Righteous. Thanks T.

in McCain calls expensive cocaine a foreign policy victory on The Michigan Messenger
drivin' that train, high on cocaine... I wouldn't rely on stats too much phikabob, too easy to juke. I'd probably put the percentage higher for American's usage anyways. You find out how to pump conservative's heads till they pop, and I'll loan my arms! I don't buy mccain's pow tale, I don't buy his treatment of his wife,(mine would pour battery acid in my ear while I slept if I called Her what mccain calls his wife in public, and I'd deserve it!), I don't buy the bs trip to Colombia-and the story of the presidential candidate being freed w/the american 'contractors" is highly suspect, I don't buy karl rove's little minion helping mccain's campaign. the only difference between bush and mccain, is that the NVA kept mccain cooled off for a while. Songbird is a name bandied about in reference to Powerline John. these bastards will lie when the truth would suit.

streetwalkers Always a mental challenge to keep up w/Y'All! That is what good reporting should do!! Stimulate conversations toward betterment of man instead of talking about what was on the Simpsons last nite or the Sopranos!
I disagree somewhat LoRayne. I would much rather see beat cops instead of cameras that will be broken, or God forbid the listening posts used in parts of L.A..I think that visible presence would go a long way in starting the rebirth of urban settings. Just one man's thinking. There have been studies done, papers written, arguing that "Broken Windows" does not work.Harcourt/Ludwig, the U.of M. study-Thatcher paper, etc. I have only read snippets of their arguments. I see viability on both sides of the coin to a degree. And Flint was a bad example, I cede that. If The DonFather were indicted, tried, and convicted(again), and "SuperChief" uh...retired, the 46plus police officers reinstated, maybe, and a Prayer thrown in, maybe it could help.Thank You Mich. Messenger for keeping the Truth alive. Always a Pleasure L.!
