in Twitter growth and hype continue on The Equity Kicker
Like the idea of letting founders cash in during investment rounds. See you on the 8th June at http://www.nwstartup20.co.uk/jun09. Had to postpone commercialisation of edocr.com till June 1st due to few technology hiccups in migrating the front-end to EC2. Here is our first commercial application http://www.edocr.com/organisation

in How to delete your Ecademy account on Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist
Once I had a paid account on ecademy (cannot remember the justification - ebdex days). When I wanted to discuss a potential partnership, the CEO insisted I upgrade my membership to Blackstar before approaching them. I believe I downgraded my membership to FREE after this conversation but their CEO added me to their Blackstar e-mail list and the e-mails continue to arrive one after another.
Overall, I believe ecademy is not for lot of us, but there are people who continue to value its services. We have to accept that therefore there is a market for ecademy. An overhaul of the design is fundamental to building new opportunities as it is so out dated and they have only done minor changes ever since i came across it in the first place.
I believe their CEO is willing to listen, which is a major change, perhaps due to all the changes taking place around them with social networks. Going forward, they would also need to redefine their customer proposition as it is not clear to many of us.

Manoj - get off the political fence with the general obvious statements. There's a hospital for some people but it doesn't mean it's a good place for anyone.

Thank you for sharing this inspirational video. Cannot wait to show this to my kids (still sleeping) to appreciate life and how fortunate we are. Life is just tough for lot of people right now. All of us need inspiration, especially if you are running a boot-strapped startup

Mano,
Very inspirational piece. I am not afraid to admit, it made me cry. We take for granted so much in our lives and do not appreciate the small things. Often we are so wrapped up in our grown-up world of bills-we forget to be thankful for non material items. Thanks for sharing a comment and stopping by.

in Jessica Mah’s $500 to Startup on Sproutly
The point for me is not that Jessica had a business plan, a clearly define value proposition, great website, etc. It is more about, did it solve (or does it aim to solve) a problem she has? And did she think that there were other people having the same problem? There is nothing wrong with taking a punt at the market. Whether it succeeds or fails, at such a young age, will give her experience that she would not be able to get by working for an employer. There are number of ways to skin a cat, and this being one. In this game, there is no right or wrong answer. Make what you think is the right answer by considering all the information and any advice available to you.
Well done. Wish you all the best

Just wish I am 18 and at the university to do the same. Unfortunately, I am more than double that age. But my current startup cost bit more than Jessica's at the time of Alpha launch.

in The declining importance of blogs on The Equity Kicker
Nic
Fully agree with your findings. I started blogging in 2006 and used to proudly display the title of "blogger" on my business card. Now I am a micro-blogger on Twitter and find it hard to motivate myself to blog at my usual site www.manojranaweera.com. I also maintain blogs at http://www.nwstartup20.co.uk/blog and http://www.edocr.com/blog. All need more love. regards Manoj

Great introduction - thanks. Challenge is to make sure Nic comes back in 6 to 9 months time. Northerners, are you ready to entertain Southerners?
Happy to report we had Reshma Sohoni and Paul Fisher before. Next perhaps would be Doughty Hanson. ah! Need to organise Autumn events.
Shameful plug: Looking for CTO/CPO. Anyone interested? Here is the job advert

in If your service is free someone somewhere had better be making money on The Equity Kicker
Exactly. We have number of competitors who provides a free service. What you see right now at www.edocr.com will remain free, but our strong belief is that we can provide paid value added services, from branding propositions to release of intelligence.
Who thought boring business documents have so much capability until edocr came along. This is not what we planned to do at the beginning. Time has helped us to find our niche. Now we need bit of helping from our friends to make it a reality.

Great new service. Well done Scribd. Would we do the same? I thought about this before with a slight variation, but we have lot more work to be done, and our focus is different.
Given that mashable's origins are British (or shall I say Scottish), it would be great if you could consider covering great events such as www.webmission08.com and Northern English startups such as www.edocr.com.
Happy to share any aspect of our journey!
