Dear Gerry,
Your trust in the Bush Administration is what borders on Lunacy. How can you be so naive as to believe anything a government employee tells you. Must be all that public schooling. I bet you think that Oswald and Sirhan Sirhan acted alone in the Kennedy murders. You probably think Obama is going to undo all the things Bush did. He is a narcissistic, Kenyan-born commie bastard! http://www.americantownmeeting.com/Essays.php?E...

in Daily Home - Council awards contract to run sewer lines to Coleman Circle area on The Daily Home
Although these two characters have zero credibility, their comments hold water. As for the city manager form of government: the reason the City has it is because of Larry! As for the Council, one has to hold on to hope, that sooner than later they will see the light and emerge from the darkness and move forward by hiring another City Manager. TRUST me the $55,000 payout is pennies on the dollar for what is erroneously being spent!

Defenderoftruth,
I notice you didn't contest anything about the current status of teachers getting raises or anything to do with the total $6K in raises Nishino has gained. Hater of unions I hardly think so, if you brush up on your history you will see the reasons unions were created was to combat unfair employment practices. These however, have long since diminished to exist. Instead, you have the balance of power shifted from the people who are "focused on long term" to those who are focused on day to day tasks ie. teachers. Furthermore, I am sure that Nishino isn't single handidly responsible for those lawsuits. What about our lawsuits a few years back with another superintendent and the Gay/Lesbian rights people. What happened to that guy.
Also, when I was referring to people straight out of college I wasn't referring to executive positions. Rather, I was pointing at teachers and the vast majority of them have a lack to really put in an honest days worth of work. You should shadow your son/daughters teacher for a week and see how much of their day is consumed with actually teaching. Another thing that hasn't been enforced well (yes by Nishino) inspite of it being in the Union Contract (Available on MHUSD online).
As for people thinking I am Nishino or one of his "Cronies" I don't think so. I am just simply a person who looks at a school just like every other executive should, a business. Unfortunately at some point (currently today with economic situations) children were going to pay the price. This is what we are watching. Only difference is, I am ok with it. My children will do well in life if they are taught the right things. Private schools/Charter schools continue to trump all public schools. Yet private schools don't even require a teaching certificate. Why is this? Probably because the people hiring them are looking for people who give a crap about teaching. Not just someone to fill the spot.
I am anonymous because I have many family members who are teachers in MHUSD and they tell me all the stories of teachers wearing the same color on certain days. I can't help but ask myself. What is the difference of this and a gang? Also, what is the point of gangs or any organized crime? To gain control? It's very disturbing if you really stop and think about it. Would you be comfortable with someone who doesn't do your job negotiating your contract? Or would it be a previous teacher/board who comes up with the salary. Morgan Hill may have the lowest in Santa Clara county but it coincides with the cost of living.

Parent & Former MH Teacher
Site your sources. Private/Charter schools trump all public schools? I don't think so. (Although you will believe what you want to believe) Show me the API scores of the private schools you're talking about. Transfers from private schools like Valley Christian struggle to catch up at Live Oak. Believe it. I've seen it first hand. We took our children out of the local parochial school (St. Catherine) because the education was too subpar to ignore. They struggled at Nordstrom (MHUSD) but eventually landed on the honor roll. And what has your personal experience been? I'll take certified credentialed teachers any day over your private school teachers. I will believe that more parents of private school students are more involved in their children's lives than those attending public school. Parents that pay their taxes AND private school tuition tend to be more involved in their children's education, which might have something to do with the success you seem to want to attribute to the teachers. IMHO

I hope all of you realize the 3% raise per year is at most $6,000. What would the district do with this little amount of money? Possibly buy more paper for the teachers who waste money on internal memo's? Yet they have e-mail and refuse to use it. As a previous person said, the teachers/schools have all the means they need to communicate with parents more phone, email, meetings, etc... yet they choose not to use it. I am a graduate of Live Oak and have lived here for about 10 years. I am probably the only one on here who has looked at the budget and I can tell you. There is nowhere else to cut other than the salaries or increase furlough days. This brings me to another point. The teachers who are supposedly all for the student’s elected to eliminate furlough/in-service days. Convenient the teachers don't want to continue their education. I can only hope the union continues to lose power. They are on the decline in every other industry and most companies which have them are failing. In large part because of them. They have way too much power and spread way too much propaganda. Also, did the teachers inform you they all received a salary increase? I think this should be eliminated. It would save a whole heck of a lot more money too. Anyways, I think Dr. Nishino did a good job with what he had to work with. One thing I would agree with it the fact that he should make himself much more approachable and be seen at the district a little more. You should read up on Nishino and see what he did before he was in Morgan Hill, he has a pretty decorated resume. I think when Morgan Hill brought him made an excellent decision when they brought him. But tough times call for tough measures. Besides, if you want a decent education you can’t rely on the teachers. Most if not all of it needs to come from the home too. If you aren’t educated work hard with your child and become educated with them. I am sick of lazy people/teachers blaming everyone else and not looking at themselves and what they deny doing. All the way down to “Not checking my email because I am not paid to.” They need to be brought into check by somebody and I hope the next person does this. If you deny these accusations drive by a public educational institution after 3:30PM and see how many cars are there? And what percentage of people are teachers. There hourly rates are astronomical when you actually calculate them.
Sorry but I am just tired of hearing how bad it is for the teachers. If I ran the district I would keep firing teachers and hiring from the local colleges until I employed the district with people who are excited about teaching and the retirement plans you get.
Have fun with responses I am sure this will fuel a lot of you! :)

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it would seem that we've been graced by Dr. Nishino's fattence. Uh, I mean "Presence."
.. and you all thought that he wouldn't drop-in to see what the public thought of him. ;-)
If it isn't him, for sure it's one of his cronies or lackey's that think so highly of themselves.

I've read MHUSD has the second lowest paid teachers in Santa Clara County. Attracting talent, or losing well loved teachers is a problem. Heavy on administration costs, undervalued teachers? Morale or confidence issues..........

I'd laugh at your post, but I can tell you're serious.
Yes, we have read about Nishino and his years as a superintendent. He ran up huge legal bills in Alameda, and had his contract bought out in Castiac. Yep, a stellar peformance. You seem to hate unions, so you have a lot in common with two or three members of the MHUSD school board. Maybe you're one of those three board members, posting anonymously. So, lets summarize. You hate teachers, you hate the union, and anyone fresh out of college can do a better job? Apply for Nishino's job. Hickey, Sullivan and Mandell might just give you a chance!! By the way, posting as "Anonymous" was probably the right thing to do. Otherwise, you might have embarrassed your parents and insulted those good teachers you had along the way....
