My take on the "Fail Early, Fail Often" is that it is better to learn early from yours or others mistake and move on and not repeat them. I learned about life balance from work after sending way to much time working and not enough time resting and recouping.

Now thinking about my first job after collage. I got lucky and got the first job I ever interviewed at working for Marine Midland Bank (my father worked there) and made a whopping $18K back 23 years ago in Buffalo, NY. If I had not gotten that job my life could have been a lot different, since after like 5 years they laid-off 1000s of there staff. In doing so I got to a new job in Rochester, NY working for Citibank Student Loans as a mainframe programmer. After that I have had a bunch of other jobs. By switching jobs and cities I have been able to meet a lot of great people and some of my best friends that way.

So I guess the big corporate job out of collage has worked out for me personally, but not as much financially. My list of jobs after collage seems to follow the "Fail Early, Fail Often" thinking by learning from others, moving on to something better, and meeting wondering people like you Micah.

I have been saying the same thing for a long time now. Social Media is just a big fancy set of words to do what marketing and PR have done for years. The people that do Social Media, just get to use really cool wiz bang kind of tools to accomplish their tasks.

Very nice video I like the idea. As you and others have said, your first blog posts, first videos, etc. might not be the best, but you have started something and are not just sitting around and talking about it.

I thought the pace and tone of the talk was great. As on person said they were not sure about the art behind you, I like it, it makes it feel more like home and your just being you.

A few names you might think about are "Moments with Micah", "Micah Moments", "Ways NOT to Get Punched in the Face", or "Ways to Learn to Duck". I like that it is on Viddler, since there might be people like myself that have YouTube blocked at the office.

Thanks, for the great suggestions Andrew. It's been a few months, since I have posted anything on my blog, between working on BarCampDC and preparing for my new job. Now that I'm at the new job and things settle down I will get back to posting.

The fun thing will be figuring out what to post about, since I already have a bunch of non time sensitive posts already started. They just need finishing and editing, since most of my stuff is accessibility and needs examples.

That was a very interesting and moving piece of writing. If had not read some of your other very open blog post here I would have said that is a great piece of fiction.

As Tyler said could could be a great book for others to learn from and see what they still can be if they put their minds to it. And it will probably cause you some pain and troubles getting it on paper.

If you need help any help or just someone to listen, I've been told I'm a great listener if i can keep my mouth shut for a while.

I enjoyed listening to this and your talk with Peter Corbett. Very well done please keep them up. Might be something to do while in SF to keep you busy while looking for work and might be helpful in trying to meet people.

You should think of making these available as podcasts (mp3 files) so people can listen to them while doing other work, like I just did while reading a bunch of other blog posts.

If you think trying to decide at PodCampDC was tough, just wait until you go to SXSW and they have 12 - 15 panels at the same time and you want to go to at least three and there are two more that sound interesting.

Justin's big point I guess was that you need to get your content to the people, instead of them having to come to you. That is where the sharable part came in. If you make your content in a way that people can take or look at your information it is great. You could use RSS, Widgets, YouTube, Viddler, etc. and let people find it.

The guy that did the talk on "Podcasting 101" said that he got more followers when he changed the way he listed his podcast. Instead of listing at as "Nante Koto" (means "Oh My God" roughly in Japanese), he listed as "Nante Koto - Misadventures in Dating" more people foud it by just adding the dating part in the title.

The reason I that networking was difficult was that talks were spread out over three floors and a lot of the rooms only held seats for like 30 people. So a lot of people myself included just left one presentation and went to the next to make sure I did not have to stand or sit on the floor for the entire presentation.

Even when I got my lunch I went down to the room that Justin Thorp was going to talk about "Making Video Sharable" just to make sure I had a seat. I was not the only one that did that. About a dozen or so of us had a great quiet conversation on a lot of subjects.

Another great and insightful article. I plan on using a lot of the ideas when I start on my big project.

I learned a lot when we met at Startup Weekend here in DC. The only issue was it was just a big whirlwind of activity and I did not get a lot of time to see all aspects of the process, since it was head down and code.

The nice thing about being a coder is I can do most or all of the coding part myself to work on the prototype, without having to involve others and keep as much of the company for myself. I know I probably should involve others just so I get a different prospective on things. We will see once I get more into the project.
