@Anil-

I would be happy to invite you but it seems they just redesigned the Joost web site and I can't find where they put invitations. It looks like they might have disabled invitations temporarily. Not really sure. If they pop back up again I'll send you an invite.

in Richard Stallman on Pedophilia on Michael's Thoughts
I was not taking a position on the matter, I was just stating that I find it interesting when people of some notability take such a public and unpopular stand.

Although, if I were to take a position on the issue, I'd have to say I am generally against pedophilia.

well, as liesure activities go, I'd say yes I would like television to excite me. I mean, if my alternatives are strippers, vodka, and big piles of cocaine, I think I'd rather go with HBO for some wholesome Saturday night entertainment.

in Grooming Lounge Coming to Tyson’s on Michael's Thoughts
Yeah...the thing is, I'm not sure if a "grooming lounge" really even counts as "metrosexual". All the K Street lobbyists have were getting manicures long before Queer Eye for the Straight Guy or any of that silliness.

On the shaving front - I've never been too particular about that. I just use the Gilette shaving gel and a Gilette Mach 3 disposable razor. I don't use after shave or anything like that. But the larger point about skin care is well taken. I'm a big believer in exfoliating early and often. Helps me keep from breaking out.

Jack-

Thanks for the comment! Yeah I haven't been aggressive at all lately on the networking/social development front. Been in very much hermit mode myself, and somewhat enjoying it (or at least enough not to be motivated to go out and pound the pavement).

Do let me know if you hear of anything cool, though.

Dave-

I have no particular reason to believe you aren't being honest. I just find the whole debate to be very distasteful. I realize that many of the inflamitory comments have not come directly from you, but this whole discussion just annoys me. I don't like double standards, and I don't like people jumping to conclusions about situations when they don't have all the facts.

Of course you could argue that that's exactly what I did in writing this blog post, but frankly that's fine- I'll take that critisism since it's basically the point I'm trying to make. I don't know what Adam was getting at in editing the wikipedia, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I just find it frustrating that two very similar situations are seen in very different lights, simply by virtue of the populist perspective.

in Jog and Shuttle for iTunes? on Michael's Thoughts
Hm...well maybe it's worth a try. I mean, I don't know if iTunes lets you jog back and forth with a keystroke or not. Not as far as I know. Plus I'd like a little more "intelligent" behavior like allowing me to spin it slowly to shuttle through a few audio frames at a time, and then spin it faster to jog. Oh well. Worth a shot maybe.

in Jog and Shuttle for iTunes? on Michael's Thoughts
Does it work with the position in the track or just the volume in iTunes? Guess I need to do some googling, but this may work for me. Thanks for the heads up!

PS - I suspect they will keep their customers just fine. While I'm not familiar with the scandal you're refering to, it seems that most companies are pretty teflon with respect to malevolent online behavior. Unfortunate but true.

in Wiki Editing Etiquette on Michael's Thoughts
Yeah, on the subject of locking old pages...that's something that's sort of been in the back of my mind. I haven't done it yet, and so far there hasn't really been a need as far as vandalism, etc.

I think if we can get away without locking pages that's better since, again, the point of a wiki community is communal editing. Also it may be that six months down the line something in today's podcast becomes very topical and a lot of people are going back and re-listening to it and rereading the shownotes and there may be additional discussion or information at that time. I don't know. That's a hypothetical. I just take the opinion that I know I cannot forsee every possible future outcome so I'd like to lean on the side of flexibility.

Nevertheless, I do agree that you make a very valid point regarding content stability. Thanks so much for your input!

John-

Thanks so much for your input. I completely agree that formalizing it is not a good idea at all. I think nothing kills a community effort more quickly than excessive and unnecessary formal structure. I'm just trying to get a sense of other people's opinions so we can come up with an informal "best practices" or wiki etiquette so that everyone continues to feel included. That's the point of my soliciting input.

in Wiki Editing Etiquette on Michael's Thoughts
Hm..that's an interesting point. I saw that someone added the RSS link for the Recent Changes page to the Main wiki page and I didn't really get why. I know that people want a proper podcast RSS feed, but that's definitely not it. So I was wondering what people use it for.

I hadn't really thought about general readers keeping track of the recent changes. I know I typically go over the recent changes page because I want to make sure that none of the pages are getting trashed, etc. (hasn't happened yet, knock on wood) but I hadn't really thought about general readers wanting to do that.

Now that you point it out it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the comment! Keep 'em coming!
