Cheers for that Matt. It would be great to get a copy of that excellent photo. I wonder if the Midge we knew from Pollok is the same guy that Algie was referring to who has since become a bible basher. I am not so sure about believing in God, but I definitely believe in Mod Li Li

I don't know why I remembered that after all those year Andy. It was one of the one's (another being 'Shakin All Over) that was not really in place in a Mod club, but was defintely played by wee Colin. I think he liked to play unusual records sometimes, even if they were never going to become Mod classics. At least he never played Brian Poodle and the Tremblers Li Li !

Me and big Chris McCrae (god bless him) did more than our fair share of hiding from the Yorkshire brigade on the Sunday night after that barny in the disco. We hadn't even nicked anything as well. But without going into it on the site I do know exactly why they freaked, and Algie will also remember why.

Are you still staying over in Pollok nowadays Matt, and do you ever venture out to the town for a beer or two ?

Hi Celtchic67. I may or may not be the guy that works in CP. Such information is (a) top secret, and (b) potentially liable to a lot of people taking an instant dislike to me Li Li !

Later on the Saturday we tied up with a lot of nice Mods from Coventry, who you can see in my photo's bit. Melvie fae Dumbarton kindly informed me once we were home that one of the Coventry Mod girls was after my body. You can imagine my reaction to his late release of such information. You can also see Pat Forbes fae Penilee in a couple of the caravan snaps.

Spot on Davie. But believe it or not wee Shorty was a skin when I first knew him, and then he jumped ship into the rockabilly camp.

Hi Matt. I was indeed with yous when Jamie kicked the postcard stand over. It was after that he started the dodgy songs and we left him to it and got a carry out and invaded the beach; as all good Mods must do.

That was definitely a mad weekend, from the beginning to the end. On the Friday night we camped out in some English guys' tent and then wee Shorty and your mob jumped on top of it. The Saturday we crashed in a caravan that we had broken into, and then on the Sunday there was an amazing barny in 'Waves' disco because the Yorkshire scooter brigade did not like how we looked or danced.

I am still staying in the north of the city and I still go to some of the Mod do's. The music never leaves you as far as I am concerned. The Friday Street do's are great, and the annual Mod weekender do's are the best thing since the Scene Club. I am really looking forward to seeing your snaps big man.

It was definitely a fantastic time to be a Mod in Glasgow TYB. There was an awful lot of Mods around, and there were an incredible amount on scooters. In some ways you would have to be there and walk up the Barras on a Sunday, or go along the Clydeside on a Saturday night, or go up to the Scene Club to believe how many were going around then. Apart from that most people would think we were guilty of exaggerating how strong it was in Glasgow at that point. Even better (to me anyway) was the fact that everybody connected with scooters were Mods, there were no scooter boys or anything like that then. The perfect combination; scooters and style.

I can think of quite a few worse things, but I won't say what they are as I would not want to upset people who are not (or were not) Mods.

Absolutely fantastic photo's Algie. Some of the people in the snaps such as Jim McInch, Prenty, Bobby Black, Skeeny, Angie and Jim Paton I knew pretty well, others I knew to see. I personally look back on those days with an awful lot of fondness despite the trouble that sometimes came about. But as you say 'Always think about the Good times' and there was an amazing amount of good times to be had then. Especially as we had the best club around to enjoy. Whatever happened to wee Colin the master Mod DJ ?

AlgieEEM78 Youve got to remember we were all young guys from differnt housing schemes all over Glasgow ,and as Glasgow boys do ,we all thought we were the best ,mix that together with the drink and drugs at the time and it was inevitable you would get a bit of friction now and again but it was never anything serious ,and as ive said before Chris we all made friends from all over Glasgow and beyond who are still good mates now . It was all just part of growing up but i wouldnt have missed it for the world. Algie . Always Remember The Good Times ps Dont know whatever happened to the wee dj ,but he might be a good lead to finding the Holy Grrrrrrail

Well christened Charlie, that is exactly what it has become. The only difference is that we know for absolute certainty that it did exist. (I think) A copy must still be out there somewhere, and I know that there was one that was still with the EE Mod community during the mid 80s, long after they (like myself) had packed it in.

I am really looking forward to seeing those old snaps Algie. At the moment there are not so many from the 79 to 82 period, and even less of the legendary Scene Club. Do you or any of the other guys that you are still in touch with know of the whereabouts of any of the videos of that film that was shot down at the Clydeside in October 1981. There must have been more than 200 scooters that day, and most were all doubled up. When the hundreds watching on are considered there must have been at least 600 Mods there that day. I have seen the film twice, once at the Scene Club, and on another occasion at Ged Skivingtons house around 1984/5. If I remember correctly there is also some footage of you guys driving Edinburgh Road.

AlgieEEM78 I remember it well Chris iwas there that day and it was amazing ,i remember us all riding along the dockside with no helmets on all doubled upon our Scooters . there must have been a couple of hundred easily that day .i remember one of the guys that ran the Scene Club filmed it and put music to it and we watched it in the club later i think his name was Ray or something .It would be amazing if we could track acopy of it down ,Ive not seen wee Ged for afew years but could probably get in touch with him through somebody to see if he can remember if anyone might have acopy. Do you remember big Stevie Philips from Carntyne.hes in one of photos i sent in ,hes standing with his Scooter next to Billy Morrison from Pollok.Im sure iremember big Stevie having some film of Scooters either on Eddy rd or the dockside .The last time i seen him was when he came up for Elkys funeral and we spent a couple of days on the lash bullshitting about old times .He works for the MET in London so he should be good at tracking things down ,ive got anumber for him and hopefully ican get in touch .its worth a try .Meanwhile ill get asking about to see if anyone else might remember something .The search is on for the Holy Grail of the Glasgow Mods

Hi paddysmum. If you go into the Glasgow Evening Times site, then press the part called 'Sections' you will come to a part called 'Photo Sales.' Once you press that there is a part you can put in a key word, and if you put in 'Mods' or 'Glasgow Mods' the photos will come up. I think the first sizes cost about a tenner and go up to £14. It's a great photo and I remember it very well at the time. I knew a lot of the people in the photo so it was great to see it again after all those years.

Happy New Year to everyone in Modsville worldwide, and I hope everyone's hangovers are starting to ease a bit.

I also saw the Top Gear with Clarkson riding the cool Vespa through Vietnam. I was also annoyed at the fact that he kept dumping it on its side panels instead of pulling it up on to its stand, fat lazy barsteward !

Love the new gravatar Lammy. Is that you posing on your mini ?

I think it is fairly well documented dellboy that Mods in the very early 60s were listening to Tamla, well before most people knew it even existed. The Mods book by Richard Barnes shows a selection of records, which from memory were from Guy Stevens' collection and were standards in the London Scene Club. Many are Motown classics.

There would certainly have been Mods who did not appreciate Tamla Motown, same as there would have been some Punks who were not keen on the Clash. But I think it is safe to say that Motown has been iconic to the Mod movement, both in the 1960s and then later, from 79 onwards. You are sadly spot on about the rivalries that existed between Mod gangs, both in the 60s and with the revival. It is well documented about the battles between the Shamrock and the Maryhill Fleet in the 60s, and there were certainly quite a few scraps in the Scene Club era. Most times it was trouble free, but there were occasional outbreaks.

Reading some of the comments here it is like waking up one day and finding out that some mad person (or people) have got together and came up with some sort of shite about what Mod is all about, but don't have the slightest clue what they are talking about. The day Tamla Motown is not welcome at a Mod venue is the day it should be shut down. There should always be room for innovation but dance music just does not get any better than that coming from 'The Eight Wonder of the World.' Maybe the Mods back in 1963 and 1964 who listened to Tamla were not really Mods at all, and it has taken these ultra knowlegeable Mods to let us in on this incredible secret. Alternatively(and more likely) these jokers are up their own arse and do not have a clue about what being a Mod is all about.

Looking at the photo's a second time I also know a few others in them. I knew the guy called Wright who it seems is sadly no longer with us. I am sure I knew the girl that is pictured on the back of Rab McDermotts scooter, and that she came from Renton and went out with one of my mates called Mini. The girl in the centre of the picture at Central Station is another I am sure I knew, but I cannot recall her name.

Grant, you must have been friendly with most of the Goldhawks like Gardo, Pat Forbes, Froggy, George Campbell and Jamie Brammer, among others.

Brilliant stuff Charlie, and a big thanks to Grant for sending the snaps in, and to Stevie for putting them on.

The girl with me at Balloch (1982) is Roseanne. I have never seen that photo before and it is fantastic to see it for the first time. I think the photo must have been taken during the afternoon as I nabbed my parka back off Roseanne for during the evening. Well that's clinched it now. We are bound to get a post from Mik Paton asking about me and Roseanne again, when it was all very innocenti.

Great picture of Ped Burns as well at the start.

Great stuff Stevie, very funny. I just hope it was not anything to do with the socks that some of my old Mod mates used to wear back in 81 and 82. They certainly could talk Li Li ! I at least changed mine at Christmas.

Since it is the time of goodwilll to all we will forgive him his extreme ignorance TYB. I remember well the Gathering of the Clans concert at the Apollo in March 1982 featuring the fat man and his band. I don't think it was the Mods who ended up F...ed that night Li Li !

Happy New Year to all !
