Gary makes a good point, but I really question how much the mainstream audience actually cares about how quick Facebook updates or whether they will gravitate toward the simplicity and relevance that Twitter provides. I think the masses are quite content to simply continue to casually surf their friend's profiles and view their photos, while playing with the occasional app.
You bring up a good point that through Facebook, one will be able to connect to anyone throughout the world to get a first-hand view of others instead of having to form our opinions from biased and politically correct mainstream media. It will be interesting to see how people harness this power and how world opinions are influenced down the road based on this new communication paradigm that continues to evolve with the Internet, it's applications like Facebook, and their global reach.
