in Microsoft Using Apple’s Macbook Pro In Promotional Material? on The Linuxologist
They're probably stock images and MS's marketing group are clueless. They make ads, not computers! :P

in Japan Hates The Dark Knight?! on /Film
Jon - I don't think Speed Racer is out here in Japan yet. If I remember correctly it is this weekend. Then again I may be mistaken. In either case, I won't be watching it.

I went to TDK once with some colleagues and they were luke warm at best. Then I went again with my wife and a few other foreign couples. They all loved it. The contrast was quite striking.

Most of the Japanese I've talked to have said that it is the character of Batman that just doesn't do it for them. The anti-hero character just doesn't seem to play well. The inner conflict of Bruce Wayne, the outer demons of Batman, the vigilante as a hero seem to be concepts that aren't fully grasped.

in Could The Dark Knight Sink the Titanic? on /Film
TDK hasn't even been released in some markets yet. Here in Japan it opens today. I checked at lunch today, the shows are sold out until next Wednesday at the three largest cinemas nearest my apartment.

I think TDK will have fewer problems surpassing Titanic than most people think.

in Hacking Japan: Inside Tokyo for Less than New York on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss
How could you possibly make a how-to guide of Tokyo and NOT include the required paragraph about a ramen shop?!? :D

Certainly Japan can be fairly inexpensive and on the flip side it can be ridiculously expensive. It depends on what you want and trust me that you can have anything you want, it only takes money.

Here are the things that you just cannot get away without paying more than you're used to which I refer to as the 3B's:
Beer = $6-10 per bottle
Beef = Not so cheap (even at an all you can eat Shabu-shabu)
B*tches = Gentlemen's clubs and/or Hostess clubs (if you can even get in, foreigners are often discriminated against and barred entry from these establishments) are fairly expensive ... uh... not that I would know ;D

in SolidWorks Assemblies: Four Furious Ways To Split ‘em Up (and Why You Should) on SolidSmack
I pull in IGES data for vehicle layout studies all the time. I can't put into words how much I hate waiting for large assemblies. :D

You're preaching to the choir from my side. I've been developing programs to steal raw data from various places to generate a report (similar to how Cosmos works). It would be nice if someone out there already had this mousetrap figured out and all I had to do was license it. ;)

Heh, I changed browsers because I though that FF3 wasn't working properly after I updated.

in How To Use 3D Sketches To Reduce SolidWorks Features on SolidSmack
I've done both ways. The faster way is the one you've suggested Dale but I've had issues where I wanted more control over the feature and the video solution allows for a few more degrees of control.

Robert, the only reason I can think of hating this movie right now is that it will be 3 hours too short.

Looks like a comic book movie might actually be worth a damn for a change.

in New OS X “Trojan” In the Wild on dmiessler.com | grep understanding

Stu, as more and more people get sucked into the *NIX world with n00b friendly Linux distros (like Ubuntu) and OSX then you will see it has nothing to do with Windows, just uninformed (and yes sometimes stupid) users.

As the population increases, the hackers will try new attack vectors. Eventually we'll have a devastating attack; however, I have confidence that this community will react more quickly than Microsoft has to similar threats (which exist in far too many forms).

in Chris Matthews calls out Rudy Giuliani on his lies on Brave New Films
Gotta love the title above Guiliani head: "Rudy's Wrong". It is obvious that Rudy is targeting Clinton rather than any of the other Repubs. I think he is being too far sighted and will get side swiped by either Thompson (by carrying the religious wackos that make up the majority of *MY* party) or Paul (who has the following of a large number of his own wackos... although they are wackos I can at least understand and identify with at times).
