when i used to drink alll the time in college i woke up all the time. your body gets all dehydrated and its unhealthy. stop drinking for awhile and u'll sleep better.

I hate you and your cute school. LOL. That's nice.

I attend a performing arts school in Georgia. It's small so we get a better education than most students because they are only 200 students in my school. I have lunch in a trailer and my cafeteria food is okay but I'm not complaining because I love my school and I'm lucky to go to school.

First off, I'm loving this new blog. :)

I started off as an animator, and due to necessity, I had to learn how to make my own rigs as a mean to an end to get some animations going. I ended up becoming addicted to rigging, so be careful, animators. You may like rigging TOO much!

Julien, "The Art of Rigging Part 1" is an excellent book to get started on rigging on the right foot, as well as a great crash course in automation via MEL, you won't be sorry. :D

Utter Rubbish!

Newcastle tried in both times at the Emirates. How many other teams have you seen a team goto the Emirates and be entertaining to watch? Arsenals defence is hard enough to break down without shitty lineman aswell, and you might as well say teams dont need the help of the linesman to score against Newcastle (for the 3rd goal).

Linesman are a joke to football they make more wrong decisions to correct decisions and it needs to be sorted.

Teams who play 4-5-1 are always dull, its a defensive formation. Both Bolton and Fulham used this. Your point about a lone striker not being able to influence a match is fair. Davies played alone upfront for Bolton against Newcastle at SJP and he played well and if he had support from his team, Bolton would have won that match. playing 5 in midfield can help you dominate in midfield but what use is that if you dont have any stroke force? I would say 4-5-1 was a formation to get a draw, which I don't think Newcastle used against Arsenal, Newcastle tried, but in the end Arsenals defence was too good and the keeper made some good saves.

I went to 05, 06 and didn't want to believe my eyes when the line-up had changed so much. I agree with the jam bands needing to be there for the draw. I also agree with having different genres, ie. hip hop, pop etc, but spread it out. Use the main stadium, allow camping. The venue has ample amounts of parking. With the cost of tix, add in camping. It was a great idea having a festival in Vegas for Halloween, but I think the corporate BS got a hold of it and squeezed all it could out of the fans and bands. 2005 was the shit.

I have a question.

I am an agnostic Jew who believes Israel has the right to exist. Jews can't seem to catch a break, and having our own government and army is necessary to avoid the destruction of our culture.

I very much doubt the claims that there was a large Arab population that lived there for generations, mostly based on testomony by historians including Mark Twain. Once the swamp-land was cultured by the Jews, Arabs took advantage of the new jobs available, and rightly so.

I also believe that while some (say 30%) Arabs were unfairly kicked out, most left due to pressure from Arab nations who wanted them out of the way during the 48 invasions. While I do not blame them for leaving, I believe the refugee problem is a direct result of the invading armies, not the jews. Combine that with the fact that about 750,000 Jews were kicked out of Islamic nations during this time, I think it is the Job of Islamic states to care for its refugees, as Israel has for the displaced Jews.

Finally, I believe the settlements after 67 were the dumbest thing that Israel could have done! Taking land after a war, and using it to negotiate the right to exists is fine. But building residential settlements was not acceptable.

That being said, what is your HONEST assesment of my idiology?

Am I a zionists? Am I unfair to Arabs?

You have a great blog and are incredibly fair and balanced... I would value your opinion of my idiology.

I've looked into this on our internal version of sites, and it's true...there is not a good way to limit someone's access to one page and not to another. The workaround here is to use a Google Doc or Spreadsheet for content on a particular page, and limit people's access to edit that way. Such that they could only view the page, not edit the document.

They clearly had a sequel in mind when they made this movie. At the end of the movie, I went "That's it?".

It's a love story with the monster as a sideshow. Yes you get to see the monster, but it doesn't even touch on what the monster is, where did it come from, why is it attacking Manhattan, etc. I didn't go to see the movie just to see a monster being hit by missiles, but that's what the movie really is. Who gives a shit about the love story, I want the monster to be the star of the movie, not a bunch of yuppies with relationship problems.

A real disappointment. Not worth my 10 bucks.

I'm happy to bottle up some tap water for some folks. According to this survey, in 2004 San Francisco, CA's municipal water was ranked #4 in the world.

Properly aerated, the water coming from my tap tastes far better than anything I've had from a bottle. Unless I put it in the bottle in the first place.

Actually that's not such a bad idea. The city should just bottle the stuff and put it in markets; SF Tap. I can see the marketing campaign now...

Note: all heat is radiation. When you light a fire, you experience radiated heat and light.

Microwave energy is just a specific spectrum of electromagnetic waves. The word "radiation" shouldn't be scary. The scary words are "radioactive contamination." This is the result of the release of radiactive isotopes into the environment and has nothing to do with microwaves.

Essentially what happens is the electromagnetic waves at 2.45 GHz cause the molecules of water to vibrate. The vibration causes heat, not the microwaves. There are no weird particles hitting the food.

You are constantly bombarded by microwaves every day. The real danger is on soft tissue at high power levels, so don't keep old microwaves that don't have good shielding.

It is a wee bit different than the alpha, beta and gamma particles emitted by radioactive isotopes like uranium.

Microwaves pass right through most plastics and glass. Essentially anything that says "microwave safe" on it is safe. The release of dioxins from plastics has more to do with the food inside the plastic heating up the plastic to the point where low grade plastics start to degrade. The same thing would happen if you stuck hot food directly in the plastic container after cooking it.

Still, I prefer glass. You can stick a glass container in the microwave all day and all you'd do is run up your power bill.

Or you could just buy kosher salt for $3 a pound. Kosher salt has no additives and its grain size makes it good for measuring by hand. Kosher salt is mined though.

I actually don't know of any sea salts that have additives. They are very course grained, so clumping isn't really a problem. All sea salts have the same trace elements. They should really be called impurities. If you want a whole lot, I suppose you could go buy some red sea salt.

Funny, for hundreds of years the goal of salt makers was to get rid of the impurities and all of a sudden salt with impurities is now more expensive than more pure salt.

I was intrigued to see this article, but I immediately thought about what Gideon said. How is a "plug in" more effective if the power comes from an inefficient source, such as an electrical plant run off of coal? The "green" properties of the vehicle seem to be very insignificant in this respect. If I happen to be incorrect in my understanding of how some of the cars presented in this article work, feel free to correct me, but it still does not remove my doubts.

I was lucky enough to see a premier of the movie last night, at which Colin Beavan was there to answer some questions.

My take: I was moved by the movie. His family aptly represents your modern urban American family, and he successfully sets out to raise questions and answer some of them. My family's life (already relatively green) will become "greener" after watching this movie.

My advice: Beware the cynic...there is a lot of good that will be done as a result of their experiment; don't dwell on potential motives and philosophical differences.

No, malpractice isn't paid out of thin air. It's paid out of gross collections. However, physician salary surveys that I've seen are always post-expenses. Otherwise the salaries couldn't be compared between states or specialties. For example, see:

1. Medical salaries are typically quoted after business expenses are taken out, including malpractice.

2. As I said before, the $40k/year figure for loans is silly because there is no reason to pay them off that quickly. I will concede that I don't know if the salary figure I quoted includes health insurance, but these two issues cancel out.

3. The $120k salary I used was the lowest I've ever heard of, and most sources are closer to $150.

4. $400k is an extraordinary figure for med school debt. Stanford's typical debt load should be closer to $100k. I'll be finishing with about $250k, which is higher than average but not uncommon.

5. I'm not saying that primary care doctors get paid enough or that money isn't a good reason to avoid those specialties. I'm just asking for more precise use of language. It is not "impossible" for any US medical school graduate that I know of to go into primary care because he or she cannot afford to pay back loans. Even in the very extreme scenario we've been discussing, our hypothetical physician will still be at the 75th %ile of US personal income.

6. I agree that the current balance of salaries is inappropriate. Primary care physicians (and psychiatrists) ought to make more and proceduralists probably ought to make a bit less.

7. I also agree that the cost of medical education is way too high.

I said I wasn't accounting for taxes. $45,000 in take home pay corresponds to a gross salary of $60k, which is just above the 75th percentile for personal income in the US. Again, maybe not worth it for many people* but clearly not "impossible."

Even at the 15 year repayment plan, that only adds up to $38,400/year. Since there is no reason to pay it off that fast, note that the 30 year time frame sums to $26,400/year.

At a starting salary of $120,000/year, that would still leave more than $80,000/year if repaying as fast as possible (granted, not accounting for the income tax differential). That corresponds to the 85th percentile of US individual income.

To claim that it is impossible to live at the 85th percentile of wages seems well beyond absurd.

Now, maybe you feel that it's not worth the sacrifice to become a doctor for that salary, and that may be true, but I grow tired of people saying that they can't afford to do primary care. Scientists train longer for less income.

I should also point out that Stanford has extremely generous financial aid and I don't believe that anyone pays anything close to $400k to attend there.

Thanks for your empathy and support. I suppose the 11% of medical students who had reported suicidal ideation in the Annals of Internal Medicine paper referenced are just whiners too? That's a normal statistic?

I enjoy your blog for the most part, but this post seems extremely hypocritical coming from someone who is so frequently whining about his life as an attending. Medical education is based on a model introduced at the turn of the last century, ignoring almost everything that has been learned about adult education since then. The preclinical years are filled with trivia that most practicing physicians say they don't remember or use. Residents are used as slave labor to support unprofitable teaching hospitals. And none of this will change as long as doctors continue to have your attitude that it doesn't matter how bad the system is as long as it's in your past.

Journalists would have fun doing their jobs again covering more than the same faces for 35 years. It is really sad in this state - power is controlled by the few for too long. As a Childfree guy, I know exactly how you are feeling.

Many of my good friends now have children. I would love to be able to go out and, if nothing else, have dinner together, but of course, they can't because of the kids...or even worse, they'd want to bring the kids!

This is precisely how I feel about my friends with children. I have the impression that some of them wouldn't trade their children for the world, but I truly wonder how many of them really feel that way. I can't help thinking that they're just been brainwashed by the cult of parenthood.
