I think they started as an honest homage but then they became tradition.  I think I read that some where, but I've NEVER seen so many all in one place!   Didn't the Beatles and Rolling Stones have something going on with their albums St. Pepper  or Magical Mystery Tour and the Stones,  shit I can't think of it,  they are dressed as wizards or something...  lots of people on the cover...

Well, I can't imagine how people lived years ago before heat and indoor plumbing.
