in SLight flight on Torley Lives
I've had the navigator for close to a year now since moo Money introduced me to it at SLCC 2007. I'm starting to use the navigator more and more now that the SL Client has much better support for it. I also find it easier to just nudge my avatar just a bit in a direction for precision-like positioning.

It seems that I've heard about this a long, long time ago. I'm glad to see it coming to life. Thanks for the vid!

in Soundsnap rocks; what are your fave sound search sites? on Torley Lives
I read your post the other day and just recently had a need to find a sound for a client. I checked out soundsnap and found a sound to start off with. I love the licensing here. Optional/Recommended attribution, and free to use however you like as long as you don't hand out the original sound commercially on its own, in a collection of sounds, or without transformation. I ended up altering the pitch of a bicycle bell to be lower so that it resembled a trolley sound. Awesome!

in Words are a liquid currency which can be tuned with your mind on Torley Lives
This brings back some interesting childhood memories. My brother and I came up with some words to represent foul language. It was funny for a day when we tried to use the replacements and our sisters were not in on the joke. Now a days, it is an inside joke that we bring up every few years to reminisce the good old days.

Of course, when you are in the heat of the moment, you simply don't "think" of how to encode what you want to say and just go by what you already know.

in Folding ideas sideways to hide them in the open on Torley Lives
Sometimes I put a lot of stuff out there that is completely open - no hidden parts. It's just that many people are blind sighted or just don't realize what it is that they are looking at until you explain it to them. Then they can discover the other aspects of you with this newfound "key". It's that social connection that is missing I guess where people are more interested in each other than the content of a stranger.

I am on a lot of these social networking sites as well as "social content" sites (flickr for example). People see a picture, smile, and go about there business. They don't realize there is more to you (a stranger) than a picture, and that the other content may lead to something fantastic such as a learning experience, artistic awe, a formation of ideas over time, or simply a suggestion of ideas.

Or it could be that people just don't have the time or ability to be inspired.

in TagCow 's free Flickr auto-tagging gets pleasantly mixed results with Second Life pictures on Torley Lives
Argh, I started trying out the tagCow service. It seems everyone is tagging with the signature that blog hud puts on every photo - "take by dedric mauriac at [sim name] [x, y, z]". This is one of the many times I wish that blog hud logo didn't appear in my pictures. Do you think SL will ever have API integration with a few of the popular blogs? It is a complex process to blog from within SL at the moment and dependent on too many 3rd party services.

Thanks for the mention Torley. I'll have to look into this tagging service myself. As far as being a super star, I really just take a look at your pictures a few at a time and tag at will. I'm still very far behind in the SL3B photos still. I doubt I'll ever catch up to the current photos as you take way too many. My favorites are when I find pictures of me, friends I know, or simply things that interest me.

I believe I could probably setup something to integrate the flickr API with SL to alow folks to drop by and tag photos. It is just a matter of finding the time. With GTA around the corner, I doubt I'll be in SL much for a while.

in Flickr's launched "The Commons" community tagging project on Torley Lives
Oh cool. I was just doing them while I browsed through some of your old pics. Just a few each day. I was a little shocked to find one of me dancing with you and a few others. I didn't remember that moment at all.

in Thanx to those of you who tagged my Flickr pictures! on Torley Lives
I saw someone tagged a few of mine. I don't know how to see who did what though, but I assume it was you. I just started somewhere in the middle of yours so I wouldn't run into anyone else's tagging. I found a ton of them about the ivory tower. I feel like I'm reading through your personal journal looking at your pictures. I don't know what is going on in a few that don't have much of a description or title so I used my best judgment. Only you would know what the moment was about and the story behind each picture.

in Is Snipr better than TinyURL for making long URLs short? on Torley Lives
Slurls are great because people who don't have SL can follow the link and see something meaningful. I imagine they are more search-engine friendly. I also paste slurls in my chat window often and click through since vista constantly asks me if i want to run a program through the web page.

I can't wait for the day when you click a slurl and you'll see an embedded control showing a 3-D version of a live view of buildings and people in the location you are about to go to. It would make for a great way to preview before you go so you know what you are about to get yourself into.

Sounds like my head. I just can't get things out of it quick enough like you. I'm always banging from one topic to the next and making wild connections between everything that people can't see the relationship of.

Lots of shiny colors. Is this a cheesy music video from the 80's?

in Torley's Treasured: Ten Terrific Utilities I use… a lot! on Torley Lives
Sizer, good tool. Now all i need is something that lets me seemlessly share my clipboard between two computers. Love the ArtRage. Tried it and purchased it after five minutes. Let my wife know and she wanted me to buy it for her to. At 20 dollars, that is cheap and fun to play with. Thanks for the post Torley.

in [TUTORIAL] How to make a beautiful Second Life panorama in 15 minutes on Torley Lives
Wow. This is a nice walk-though tutorial. Maybe it could go on a wiki too. Anyhow, I saw your post about this the other day and checked out autostitch. I found that panarama images like this are really great for snow globes.

Hollow out a sphere, put the texture inside and a transparent texture on the outside. add a base, a little snow and a figurine and wamo! A cute snow globe. :)

I blogged with a youtube video of some of my first attempts. I also thought I'd try to do it with just a few images, but AutoStitch got confused and the image turned out funny.

It's also a good idea to make sure nothing is animated. People, objects, textures, particles. If there is a way to freeze the scene for multiple pictures, I haven't found it yet.

in Dual monitors, microshowers, & waking visions on Torley Lives
What you could do, is set 2 alts up and have them sit in a linden train. Have each one looking out each side of the windows. Set your SL client on each computer as full screen and hit CTRL+ALT+1 and SHIFT+ALT+H. Wammo! Instant cross screen view of a train ride virtually in real-time. You could even have something setup where one avi sits on an attachment that the other is wearing, and then with camera control, script them to walk around and such. The ideas are endless when it comes to double-vision.
