True story that happened with me, while shopping at CC.

This was in Brooklyn, NY. A few years back. I was looking for a portable DVD player. This was back in the day, before smart phones and pre-every single laptop comes with a DVD player-era.

I asked the sales person how much the DVD player weighed. Ostensibly, a reasonable question for a portable device.

And the guy replied "you can buy a scale next door".

It was a funny exchange, especially since the rep was entirely serious.

Doesn't make sense to me. You can buy a solid "netbook" today for $350. Radio Shack has them.

The WSJ had an article about a variety of portable computers/net within the $300-$500 price range:
