WOW! That last comment was extremely hard to read. No punctuation marks, bad spelling and all caps. You must be a Flatbush chick...lol! Anywho, all of this is funny. Mimi, your website can be so much better if you didnt have all of this point less drama on here. No one is perfect. We live and we learn; thats the cycle of life. Who are you to judge the next person? Frantzia, you're lame! I dont care if Superhead was my mother, I wouldnt let anyone defame the name of a family member. Keep your enemies close and your friends even closer, b/c they are the ones who can destroy you.

I'm taking REG on the 15th. I submitted my work experience form to my employer (CA), and they refused to sign! Anybody have any experience with that? I don't understand, as I work in accounting (AR & revenue reporting duties) and the requirement says "General experience may include provide any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills. To qualify, experience shall have been performed in accordance with applicable professional standards." Anybody else think this is f**d-ed up?

in Thanks on Wallyhood
This is the kind of kindness in Seattle in general that I love to see others notice. Just this Sunday while walking Greenlake I saw that someone had placed child's snow mitten (not cheap to replace) on a prominent fixture along the path where it might be easily found. My cell phone fell out of my pocket unnoticed and I got a call from a woman two neighborhoods away whose child had found it. My mother's wallet, cash and credit cards intact, was returned to her by a guy who found it in the restaurant parking lot she had dined in the night before. And, don't you just love it when more often than not people wave you to go ahead of them at blind intersections and wait for you to pass first on narrow streets, or wave "thank you" when you do the same? This is a part of our neighborhood culture that I really love.

in When Perfection is Un-Human on Dale Fincher
Jonalyn,

As a Believing husband and one who counsels other husbands, I really, really appreciate your insight in this post.

This speaks to me of the need for husbands to truly represent Christ to their wives. If self-sacrificial love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control were more of a reality than a romantic notion in a wife's life, it certainly couldn't hurt Christian marriages.

If you would be interested, I'd love to hear your (and your reader's) take on my post here:

http://preparation4eternity.blogspot.com/2008/07/p4e079-princess.html

Keep in mind that my blog is specifically directed at Christian husbands and especially those who are struggling in their marriages, as I have.

Keep up the wonderful work. My wife is reading Ruby Slippers.

Peace, Kim

in rtfa.net » 9PM EST, October 15 2008: Third and final Presidential Debate Streaming Live on rtfa.net
This debate was alot closer than the last two, but John McCains' belittling nasty remarks is one of the reason he is losing in these debates. If he spend more time being strong on the issues instead of making arrogant remarks to Obama he would be better off. Also, John McCain is not being very truthful on alot of issues: #1 He said he always defended Obama when people said nasty things about him.(only once when the lady said he was an arab and he only said that because it was to his benefit.) #2 He said Obama ran a nasty campaign( from what I recall Obama didn't say anything about John McCain until his so-called running mate said he was palling around with terrorist and I didn't hear John defending him then.) So what!. He just doesn't want to stick to the issues which is the economy and the war in Iraq that we shouldn't have been in in the first place. God forbid if John died in office if he was president, and you get stuck with Sarah Palin, who can't name any supreme court rulings. Shows how much she knows.

in Atheism, Superstition, and the American Present on Dale Fincher
Dale, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to give you that impression. I am asking about the larger picture.

Your post is descriptive of a condition, but not a lot about how to respond. To be fair, at the end of your post you did say that you're working on a book to address the issues at hand.

I like very much how you responded and agree. Something I've learned the hard way is that it's important to avoid arrogance when exposing bad ideas. Humility is such an elusive character trait! (At least for me it has been)

I guess I'm past the point of debate with an errant culture. But, I'm excited to simply be who I am, in Christ. I'm content to represent him as best I can to those whom I come in contact with and especially my wife and children. (I ignored them for far too long)

And, I certainly do support you and Jonalyn and others who represent Him well. He is spirit. We can only worship and come to know him through our spirits.

Questions:

- After reading the article and your blog posting, and acknowledging that I may have very little influence outside of my own micro-climate;

What is the Christlike response to atheism, superstition, American culture and irrationality?

- What is the "appropriately human" response?

- What is a "Holy Spiritual" response?

- Are they different?

in Palin, Religion, and how Secularism is out of touch on Dale Fincher
I wouldn't defend what the author is saying, but I would make the distinction that this is not "journalism," but editorial. No one in their right mind is going to look to Salon for an un-biased perspective on culture or politics.

I think that secularists will always push for the suppression of public displays of faith, but they feel justified because many of the displays of public faith truly are offensive.

I think one of the things driving the emergent church movement (not that I'm a un-questioning fan) is that Christianity has been represented poorly by those who would emphasize judgement over grace, dogmatism over compassion, creationism over creation, legalism over spirituality, etc. etc.

I view Christ as an ultimately irresistable character, as revealed in Scripture. If we Believers were true followers we would be irresistable as well.

That said, we have to be fully aware that He said He would be a dividing sword that would pit family members against each other and bring on us hate and condemnation more than He received.

My own retreat from public faith was precipitated by a new-found self-awareness of my own hypocrisy. With God's grace and a lot of help I'm more unified in my internal and external spirit and I'm making tentative steps back out into the public forum.

in Feminism… and beyond on Dale Fincher
Hi Dale,

My name is Kim. If I understand it right you and Jonalyn met my son, David and his girlfriend Donia at the Little Church by the Sea. Donia gave my wife the book Ruby Slippers which she is reading right now. So, that's how I came to be reading your blog.

We will just never know how much was lost at the Fall, will we? I wonder how was it to be male or female before the Fall? What did we lose? It seems clear that whatever benefits or liabilities that come with being either male or female are stripped when we are clothed in Christ. But we don't mourn the loss.

When we are stripped of our flesh and look at our spirits, is there such a thing as a male or female spirit? Maybe so...

As for putting a name or word to it...won't it just become another word that people imbue with definition that may be perverted as well?

I hope you (and Jonalyn) might visit my blog and post some insight. It's at

in Honolulu Advertiser blogs need more content and authority on billso.com
Some good comments on the Advertiser blogs and blogs in general. I do think you're right -- the Advertiser and many of its bloggers are still trying to figure out blogging, BUT perhaps the more challenging issue that many of us face is balancing writing a blog with interviews, writing a story, and perhaps shooting and editing a video (although not recently) all in a 7.5-hour day.

I write most of my blog entries between midnight and two in the morning. For me, it's simply because it's too difficult to take an hour or two off from working on a story during the day to post something on my blog. I'd love to do more of an Andrew Sullivan-type blog with posts every 30 minutes or more frequently, but unfortunately, for most of us, time doesn't yet allow that. Who knows, though, perhaps some day the Advertiser will pay someone to blog full time.

I just started reading your blog and I have to say, I totally love the way you write. You've got fantastic English and you're so down-to-earth. You seem really nice! Oh and congratulations on getting into Columbia! I'm considering applying there too along with Emory Uni and WSU. :)
