in Superdelegate Rob Andrews Knocks Clinton on Racial Campaign Tactics on Jack and Jill Politics
You know there's going to be so many "tell-all" books coming out of the Clinton campaign that will make Scott McClellan's What Happened look like Winnie the Pooh

I think it's interesting to hear light-skinned women say they don't have it easier. Only because my mother (who is very light and of mixed ancestry) warned me at an early age that I would have a tougher time than she (especially in the workplace) because of my dark skin. And she was right. My skin color affected me in grade school, and played a major role once I was old enough to date. My younger sister (about the same complexion as my mom) has never had this problem. I'm happily married, but I had a dark skinned brother tell me at a club once that he was surprised at my friendly demeanor because "Dark skinned sisters are typically unapproachable"! Oh well...And YES, I noted Michelle Obama's darker skin tone, and I cheer her on every time I see her with that unmistakable style and GRACE.

not delusional...you echoed my earlier sentiments. Your friends/family wouldn't bring those "controversial" viewpoints into your workplace and cost you your career because they know the damage it would cause. Sadly, this is exactly what Rev. Wright is (knowingly) doing to Barack. I'm going to check in with some TUCC members here in the Chi

in Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club on Jack and Jill Politics
I don't think Rev. Wright has said anything at TUCC that hasn't been echoed by other Black churches, or discussed privately among family/friends. I can think of a few friends that have some pretty "radical" ideologies, and I sure in the hell wouldn't want my employer to tie me to their views. But these are still my friends, and I appreciate their perspectives. We are watching the same thing play out on the national stage with BHO. I think he was naive to think (even for a moment) that this would not have become an issue in the campaign. Just as he was naive about those CBC members trying to throw him some old tail at the CBC Orientation Weekend!

As Tim Wise (panelist in the Meeting David Wilson documentary)said best, "Barack transcends his race is another way of saying he graduated from his blackness. Hillary doesn't have to transcend her race, because white is something to aspire to, where as black is something undesireable"

in Pennsylvania - She Won..oh well, onto Indiana and North Carolina on Jack and Jill Politics
WOW. I thought we were discussing politics. I'm not sure who was kissing John Edwards' butt. I have been one of his harshest critics & acknowledged early on his sleazy car salesman tactics. Even when many in the black electorate (including posters on JJP) were adamantly supporting him. I was only pointing out that given how divisive the campaign has become, there would be more pressure for him to pick a side if his wife goes for Hillary. Your argument assumes that we have a well-informed electorate. The sad truth is that we don't & I'm not sure we've had one in my lifetime (I'm 29). To those of us who are political junkies, an Edwards endorsement doesn't matter in the same way that a Richardson endorsement didn't/doesn't matter. But to those who don't follow the process, it matters because it is symbolic to the voters whom these endorsers appeal to most (Hispanics, Blue collar whites, etc.)

I agree that Edwards probably won't endorse Obama. But on the flip side, he's had plenty of time to endorse Hillary as well. And yes, he did play the race card early in the campaign, but he was also WAY more critical of HRC's ties to the special interests than Obama. I think Edwards would rather wait it out with Pelosi, Dean and Gore. However, if Elizabeth starts campaigning with Hillary, this puts more pressure on him to pick a side. Also, 2 of 10 white voters in Western Pennsylvania said race was a factor, and 75% of them went for HRC.

They said last night on MSNBC to expect Elizabeth Edwards to show up with Hillary at campaign stops in NC. I hope this is not the case - and if so, I pray John Edwards endorses Barack. I still believe he will win NC handily, but the possibility of the Edwards' endorsing Hillary and the previosuly mentioned racist republican tv spots could bloody him pretty badly! I also just have to say that regardless of the denial by the various republican talking heads (Pat Buchanan, Joe Scarborough et al) that they want to go up against Hillary in the fall, how TELLING is it that the NC rethug party feels the need to intervene in a DEMOCRATIC primary?!!

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, which is why he's polling within the margin of error in Pennsylvania and beating Hillary nationally by 10-13%

"He was permanently debilitated during his time as a POW.

If Dems try to attack him on his age and health, voters will be reminded of his bravery and heroism as a POW. If he was able to endure torture and permanent injury he can certainly endure the challenges of the office of president.

This attack will also have limited appeal with middle-aged or older white men. Hell, thanks to the miracles of modern medicine and Viagra these guys are feeling more robust than ever!"

I wasn't attacking his age or health, and I'm fully aware of his experience as a POW. I was pointing out how VISUALLY this would hurt him. Anyone with an IQ over 100 understands how lame and disrespectful it would be to target his health. However, that does not change the fact that having McCain standing next to Obama (damn near the picture of health) will cause voters some pause - in spite of the fact that part of McCain's strategy is to run with a younger attractive VP (ala Romney?). We are not electing a Vice President, but rather the PRESIDENT

ms. martin,

YES, his answer re this issue at the compassion forum came across as truly heartfelt & thoughtful. It was really clear to anyone watching how his faith plays a role in his policies. I really didn't think a compassion forum was necessarily appropriate for a presidential campaign, but I think he did himself well. And was it just me or was Hillary rambling, and generally all over the place with her responses? No one called her on it, and the audience reaction to the candidates couldn't have been more stark!

The other problem with McCain (for those of us paying attention) is that he continues to carefully water down his policies in an attempt to hold on to the independent vote. As Obama stated, it took McCain 3 tries to figure out that government should actually be involved in finding solutions to this credit crisis we find ourselves in - particularly the subprime debacle. If that's how he's going to run his campaign in the general, he's in BIG trouble. And just the VISUAL of those two standing on the same stage will be remarkable. I like and respect McCain, but he doesn't appear to be in the best health and even walking appears to be a struggle for him

It will be interesting to see if this country actually elects a LEADER to the presidency. As ms. martin points out, even the Republican nominee John McCain is attempting to incorporate Obama's message of chain. Hillary's opposition to the Obama campaign has been consistently reactionary & copy-cat. Did anyone check out Obama on Real Sports with B. Gumbel last night? We may soon have our 1st hoops prez!

Why hasn't Shrillary been taken to task for her 'elitist' comments made in 1992 about mothers who "stay home and bake cookies"? And if she's so religious and filled with the Holy Ghost, did she write in college that there was no use for "unthinking emotion"? Why don't these "journalists" do their JOBS!
