in Jacó: Drugs and Prostitutes and Surfing, Oh my! on Almost Fearless
Oh, I love Montezuma! When I lived in CR back in 2000-2001 we went there from San José every chance we got! Of course, we did the bus-ferry-bus route, which took all day. Once we even drove our old clunker of a car there. The drive from the ferry to Montezuma on the then dirt roads took hours because we could only drive 10 kph! Great memories... Wish I'd taken the water taxi!

in Photo Friday: Two Nuns in a Photo Booth on Just Go!
One of my favorite photos of my trip to Rome at 18 is of a little old nun driving a tiny little car in front of St. Peter's. I don't know why nuns doing normal things make me giggle or smile. I guess I forget they do normal things, too!

aknickerson I think that's it. Their clothes and their occupation set them apart from the rest of us, but of course they still need to do the same kinds of things that we do. Including having fun in a photo booth! :)

in MuchaCostaRica.Com - Photo Friday: Poas Volcano, Costa Rica on MuchaCostaRica.Com
Poas was one of my favorite places to visit, too. It was easy to get to and always guaranteed something interesting to see.

in MuchaCostaRica.Com - Photo Friday: Rock Climbing Gym in Costa Rica on MuchaCostaRica.Com
Looks fun! I don't remember any rock climbing places when I was there! I lived in San Jose for a year back in 2000. That was the year that got me back into the expat life and I'll never forget Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

in Mind on Mui Ne, an Mui Ne on my mind on Everything Everywhere
I have not tried it myself for just that reason! Just ask my husband - he got some pretty serious bruises across his back from being dragged across reef in Thailand. Mui Ne at least does not have a reef! He started out as a kite skiing, on frozen lakes in Canada. That seemed crazy to me, too.

in Mind on Mui Ne, an Mui Ne on my mind on Everything Everywhere
I spent two weeks in Mui Ne last October. My husband was there for the kitesurfing. Had a really lovely time! We rented from Jibes and thought they were very friendly. Enjoy!

Gary Arndt Kite surfing sort of scares me. it seems really easy to lose control and get dragged somewhere you don't want to go.

in Step Away From the Lonely Planet: A Requiem for Travel Guidebooks on Everything Everywhere
I don't use guidebooks. I live in a small city in China and it is impossible to find anything like that here. If I order them from the US, there is a real chance they will either never arrive or cost me a small fortune in shipping fees. I have found that with a little patience and diligence, Internet research (forums, travel blogs, expat blogs, travel websites) produces more than enough information for my trips. I have traveled parts of China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Spain without guidebooks. I would probably read guidebooks in a library if I could access such a thing, however.
