in Denver rids parks of homeless meals; charity says DNC is to blame on The Colorado Independent
The statement about Reagan is a lie. The truth is that mental hospitals were emptied out of long term patients in the 1970's. That was long before Reagan became President. It was advocates for the mentally ill who demanded that patients be released from state mental health facilities. It is outrageous to try and smear Reagan with this lie! He had absolutely nothing to do with causing the mentally ill to end up on the streets. In NYC in the 1970's there was a mentally ill homeless crisis that came about as a result of liberal groups demanding freedom for mental patients. To try and blame it on the Right not funding treatment and hospitals is nothing but a big lie.

s,
As for victory in Iraq. Maybe you need to re-asses what victory is. You are looking for an honourable outcome from a dishonourable war. Perhaps victory is not possible in those circumstances except to admit a mistake and take actions to correct the injustice immediately. Right now, the error is being compounded. Think of all the disabled soldiers...all the dead ones and their families. You are willing to sacrifice their lives for "victory"?
Yes, Saddam was a bastard, but was not an imminent threat to the USA.

s,
"blank screen"...hardly.
Here's what I do know:
1 Obama is not dumb. Actually, he's extremely intelligent.
2 He's a decent human being; a good person in whose care I would feel safe.
3 Obama is not perfect...but is pretty damn close!

Ha! I've got his books on audio and haven't listened to them yet...
The quote:
"..the rape and murder of a child.."
I wonder if he meant rape OR murder.
I'm not saying O is wrong to feel whatever he feels. It's just that my experience of it is no longer clear and consistent. Maybe it's just me.

s,
I watched that press conference. Obama couldn't wait to get out of there fast enough.
That's your subjective opinion about his demeanor...but even if you're right, it didn't prevent the reporters from asking all the questions they wanted. Also, you assess that he looked eager to leave, then assume that it's because he had something to hide. It's entirely possible he had a plane to catch...an event to get to...pressing things on his mind related to the campaign.
See, even you are doing the deflection dance just like your candidate. You instantly tell a lie about Obama to cover criticism of McCain.
How odd that you would come here specifically to find out about Obama. How odd that you'd forget that Obama answered questions about Rezko.

s,
Obama made himself available to reporters to answer questions about Rezko, remember? He answered everything and there was nothing left for him to say but to admit to things he wasn't guilty of. Obama realized it wasn't a good faith questioning, but an interrogation where they were trying to frame him.
How come you didn't remember that O answered questions about Rezko?

@ rikyrah,
Oh..and re he gun control thing. I was disappointed he didn't talk directly to the rural gun crowd about the point at which the law-abiding becomes the criminal. I had hoped he'd talk about the difference of outcome between those who are distraught and have access to a gun and those who don't.
I know Obama feels this way, (as per the "cling" comment) but doesn't say it much.

Rikyrah,
Maybe it's my signal that's jammed! From day to day, I don't know what exactly I feel about the Obama campaign. At the beginning, there was a clear, consistent signal. Now, it's like schizophrenia. My sense is there's discord between Obama the man, and his advisers who have a job to do in getting him elected.
At the beginning, I thought I could say who he was. Now, I'm not entirely sure. Whatever.

Craig,
My sense is he's gotten by his whole life by fudging it. Is there something inherently wrong with that? Mo. But, for a President, people need to know. The fact he doesn't use the internet...how can you have access but not even the curiosity to go online?
Obama - by contrast - makes himself excessively available. He doesn't shy away from discomfort...and those reporters do put a hurting on him for it. It makes supporters like me into nervous wrecks.
Obama is a man who steps up to the plate and takes responsibility, even for things he hasn't done. Everyone projects their faults onto him. He becomes the racist. He is the race-baiter. He becomes the sexist. We all know it's not true; yet, he doesn't defend himself.

Re the death penalty for child rape. I wonder if Obama was answering like a politician, or the father of 2 young girls. Sasha, I think is about the same age that little girl was when she was raped by her stepfather. I can't imagine what else he could have said... I guess he could have talked about the death penalty escalating rape into murderer.
I'm not liking what I'm feeling from O lately. It doesn't feel like bravery or boldness or confidence...it feels like excessive calculation. Maybe he's carrying unresolved anger from the primary, and it's jamming the signal..LOL!
My sense is that America needs a hero, not someone who capitulates.

There's something slithery about John...the way he changes the subject to someone else whenever he's cornered. The reporter mentions him running away from Bush and he responds by talking about Senator Obama. The second time he talks about beating his wife. So, are we to assume beating his wife is a more comfortable subject matter than being akin to Bush? Or, that even talking about Obama is more comfy than talking about himself?

I don't think Obama said any more than that. He knew he wasn't among friends and I don't think he'd risk anyone leaking something ugly...but, I do believe it was tense!
I think he shouldn't reach out to them any more. Once is enough...he's the winner goddamit!
From now on, I think he should give them the silent treatment and let their constituents deal with them.

Hey stupid,
If you're going to cite articles about Canadian Health Care, you should pick ones that get their objective facts straight. You wouldn't want to misinform your fellow Americans now, would you?

The days of defending oneself from one's government with handguns are long gone. You'd need rocket launchers and nuclear weapons to do that. All the goverment would have to do is shut off the water, maybe block food delivery. But, maybe I'm wrong.

Yes, I agree this is a fantastic post...lots of passion. Rikyrah lays it on the line.
These guys don't bother to hide their resentment anymore, eh? I know that Obama had to be 10 times smarter and faster on his feet to get this far, as Rikyrah said.
"Affirmative action run amok"? When it comes to elections, there is no action more affirmative than receiving a majority of votes...which Obama did.
Is the writer suggesting that America should be denied the opportunity to choose a candidate who happens to also be black. He assumes that Obama did not enter Harvard based on his grades. Is Harvard giving away degrees to slackers?

That kind of vivid imagery is the luxury of the unafraid. I think the truly frightened experience Barack X only as vague unease.
