I've only seen the first two eps she was in (yesterday was busy and no time to devote to the good Doctor) and so far, she's just not as likeable as Martha and as good a fit with Tennant.

That said, the role of the companion in the traditioanl sense is to get into trouble, have the Doctor explain the plot to her and to be a foil for the Doctor. If Donna serves this purpose, I'll be happier. What really got me about Rose is that the series for the first season should have been called Rose Who since it was rare the Doctor took an active role in solving the problem. Rose was the catalyst more often than not, which is fine on occasion, but when the season finale revolves around her saving the universe....no, that's the Doctor's role. It is, after all, his show.

That said, darkness in the character of the Doctor is nothing new. Troughton started it and every other Doctor since him has wanted to infuse his portrayal with that. Even Hartnell had it sort of, but Troughton really perfected it. McCoy was darker and more mysterious as well.

Re: In Defense of Miley

A couple of things that need to be considered here.

1. The Hannah Montana fan-base skews younger than, say, Madonna.

2. They've cultivated an image for Hannah/Miley that she has embrace of an "ordinary, sweet, innocent" girl. This clearly goes against that image. Is it a mistake she made or is she rebelling against the image she has? Do we have a Lindsay Lohan like meltdown on the horizon?

Consider that with her fanbase and her own image, you've got somoene who was squeaky clean and seemed a positive role model. Now that's brought into question.

Why do some people feel they have to sexy-ize themselves up like this? I find myself thinking of the Olsen twins and how they marketed themselves. They wanted to be sell themselves to younger kids but also tried to sexy it up. Why can't they just be happy with their image and their fan base? I mean, I don't think Hannah Montana mania was going to slow down any time soon.

I think a big part of this, for me, is that my niece adores Hannah Montana. And I wonder about the kind of messages this kind of thing will send to her as a young, impresionable kid of six. I know that parents have a big part in this and I do as her Uncle...but it's still disconcerting.

Re: Getting This Off My Chest to BBC, ITV, GMTV, Etc. | A Place to Crash

They are wrong...I buy every season of Dr Who on DVD.

I buy every episode that comes out.

And I will do that....

I'd pay a fee if I could watch or download them from the UK as they aired.

And so would a LOT of other Who fans world-wide.

Re: Thoughts on Donna, Rose…and Hannah

If you've listened to the podcasts and watched the last couple of eps (not seen this week's yet), you almost get the feeling Donna will meet a not so wonderful fate come season's end. Whether this means she'll do something that the Doctor forbids her from travelling with him any longer or that will result in the end of the character remains to be seen. I doubt seriously they'd have Donna take the Adric route to exit the show....as RTD has stated that no major characters will die.

As for her leaving, it is probably for the best. I think it will be interesting to see what kind of companion Moffatt comes up with.

Re: ‘Journey’s End’ Review and Therapy Session

A contrived, "happy" ending for Rose....check.

Lots of shout-out references to the past four years..check.

A script that was both slapped together and drawn out at the exact wrong times...check.

Russell T. And we do tend to get away from what it's really all about. And I find myself often giving in to this subtle temptation--esp. where my neice and nephew are concerned. See, Uncle Michael loves to spoil them...but there is too much of a good thing. And how many toys do they really need?

I also admit a few years ago, I couldn't afford much in the way of holiday giving...and while I didn't feel overly guilty about this, my ex-wife did..to the point that it became this huge sticking point in our relationship. I wanted to just explain to our family we couldn't afford it having just got married and my not having a job but she felt that we couldn't not get everyone something as it would appear rude. For me, it was more about spending time with those I love and remmebering why the season is specials and important....and I couldn't get across the point that just cause we couldn't afford a lot for people didn't make us bad people.

Re: Da Bears

I can't root for da Bears...too many ex-Gators on the team..

Re: The Carl's Jr. Guide To Creating Publicity

Well, at least she's wearing clothes in this little bit of footage that is being distributed on-line...unlike the last few.
