Almost anywhere in the industrialized world people and companies can bring innovation as the price to enter the arena in non-mature industry segments has been lowered (especially in web services).
Just don't try to bring innovation in car design or manufacturing (mature industries), as there the price to enter is higher than ever before.
<dc:creator

Just use a website visitor identification service that provides the company names of your website visitors and website data to qualify these as raw market is a huge undertaking.
Moreover timing needs to be right: the called person needs to work in a company that has a problem that your solution solves.

The probability to get company and person and solution and timing right is very low.

When you cold call on companies that have visited your website, using the knowledge of the product pages they have visited, you eliminate 2 probabilities.

Thus the chance to find someone interested is much higher.

This means 100 times or more less cold calling.

You only need to have a service that reveals the company name of your website visitors and the pages visited by these companies.

Re: funding

It seems the solution of DemandBase is mainly a contact data base. You need to purchase the contacts that are interesting to your company. Then hope some of these contacts visit your website.
This is the inverse model and quite different from the competitors in this market, who have web services (no download) that will try to identify the company name of all visitors (large, medium and small companies). Then you qualify the visiting company by pages visited and number of visits and company background as leads (or not).
Then you start looking for a contact within the visiting company.

Re: Demandbase launches lead generation platform with Adobe funding

@Kathleenwierisch:
a) If you have to find new leads, you have to cold call your entire population of potential customers. By knowing the visiting companies, you can cold call on warm companies which is more effective as explained on http://www.leadsexplorer.com
b) Once in the sales process, being able to visually analyze the reactions of the prospects on your communications (mail, calls, meetings,...) will help you to adjust the message.
c) When a customer visits your website, it is time to call them. http://www.leadsexplorer.com/en/le/l/Visitor_tr...

Re: Bigger, longer & uncut: The second Microsoft Seinfeld ad

Strange you mention the OLMBlog (on Gates - Sitcom career - Al Bundy) in your track backs, which is actually a post on the LEADSExplorer blog - and was trackbacked.

Re: Chad Hurley’s 2018: Video wristwatches for all

SMS (or Texting) was just an add on that was possible because of a "slack" opening in the communication protocol.
Nobody believed people would use 162 characters to communicate, but as it wouldn't cost much to install the suppliers proposed it to the operators at a low cost.
Miracle happened when people all over Europe started to SMS. It became the best revenue part for GSM operators.

A service that had an un-predicted success will last for many years to come.

Will people turn to video?
As MMS (still pictures) didn't catch on because of high cost, who will use video?

A business model that could work:
Uploading of videos overnight sponsored by advertising
As networks have low traffic overnight, it would be possible to send to videos to your mobile during the night. The next morning during commuting, you could watch these videos mixed with the supporting advertising or film trailers.
Thus instead of getting your free printed newspaper you would get free videos.

Green: Less waste of paper!

Re: Where the Microsoft ads go from here: Head-on at Apple

So Bill Gates stops his sitcom career? Seems great at first, until the advertisers find out they are addressing those who don't have the money to spend on the goods or services advertised.
Then next advertisers will withdraw their advertising even more, leading to even less revenue whereas the number of concurrent users has increased: driving up the operations costs.
Example: If you get fired you will probably spend a lot of time on LinkedIn. However the advertising present could not relate to your problem.

This seems to be a no way out for ad-supported Web 2.0 start-ups (or grown-ups).

Re: 21 Economic Models Explained With Cows

Colonization:
You don't have any cows, but you run a foreign country having cows.
The locals milk their cows for you which you have claimed.
You export the milk and meat to your home country and make $$$ without any effort.

Re: 21 Economic Models Explained With Cows

Thanks for the compliment about the blog.
Just trying to bring content and being a bit entertaining.
We like yours too! Launching at TC50 or DEMO? or Conventional PR?

After the first attention the startups need to sustain the interest. One needs to generate continuously interest.
Thus the launch and press coverage at a startup event is just a first boost. (like getting Digged or StumbledUpon)

During 2005 in the UK there was a Channel4 TV show on 3 start up companies: a ventilated bed, a fitness/diet website and a baby shampoo. They reached their potential customers directly by TV, which is still the best media. Thus they had to coverage by media and direct access to their customers.
Where do these 3 companies stand today? Freshbed seems to do OK. As for the other 2?

The game in Business isn't played at launch, but over time.
(and the world is larger than "The Valley")

Re: The expo war over startups

Maybe this is similar:
Starz In Their Eyes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K72tfYdYROo

They'll be making sure you stay amused
They'll fill you up with drugs and booze
Maybe you'll make the evening news

And when you're tripping
over your dreams
They'll keep you down by any means
and by the end of the night
you'll be stifling your screams

Now why do you wanna go
and put starz in their eyes?

Re: The expo war over startups

Seth Godin has his own view on launch PR and events:
The myth of launch PR

http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/09...

"Here are some brands that had no launch at all: Starbucks, Apple, Nike, Harry Potter, Google, William Morris, The DaVinci Code, Wikipedia, Snapple, Geico, Linux, Firefox and yes, Microsoft. Then Flash, video and widgets become a hurdle.
c) The decision makers in B2B are 50+ and they aren't surfing the Internet the whole day. Thus some or many of the metrics Scobleizer demands are in many cases not suited or wanted.

There are probably more reasons why User-Acquiring, B2C and B2B websites needs to be different.

Re: Let’s cry for the poor fragmented, underreported startups

Although we responded to your inquiry blog post previously: Companies: has TechCrunch 50 or Demo spurned you?
You forgot ours:
Engago Technolgies, London, UK with LEADSExplorer

Re: 2,000 “no’s” a year

"should I take VC at all to build my company?"
It is like getting a lover.
If you run behind the one you want, things will go wrong.
Just get the other one interested in you.

The best is having revenue and profit as a startup company.
Get customers or get enough eyeballs to become profitable.
Then listen to the business proposition a VC has to sell to you.

Re: A tale of two photos on Flickr

If you post your tweets when San Francisco sleeps http://bit.ly/3YbYx3 , you get more hits.
We experimented it several times.
Scobleizer too: he posted on "05:07 AM September 28, 2008 from web"
http://twitter.com/Scobleizer/statuses/937891785
When the famous bloggers are off to sleep, then you have more chance to be heard.

Re: The Scoble Top Tech Blogger/FriendFeed/Social Media List

It would have been a miracle if our blog would have been on the list.

Scoble keep the interesting posts coming.

Re: Anti-depression thinking: what do we do?

TechCrunch after CreditCrunch? Think Ford.

In 2008:
- Houses build on crappy loans
- China had invaded the world with their products at low prices in large quantities.

China has a large internal market potential. However in many cases the content is a link to your last blog post. And those on Twitter are not your B2B customers.
- Link bait: there is little chance to get link bait going on a B2B subject
- Free content: the more content the higher the chance people will find your company.

All in all: it is mainly pulling people to your company or product website.
Thus you need to identify the website visitors by company name.
