I don't work in the technology field but I would say the reason I don't want the internet tampered with is that it represents freedom to me. With regulation comes less free speech and the delivery of ideas. It's a great alternative to the corporate driven main stream media. Like a grassroots newspaper that anyone can read. I think it's just a question of time though - they'll come for it sooner or later.
