she is really cool and makes a good point. because drug violations are based on weight, crack has a bigger sentence than coke, even though they are essentially the same thing.

No, it doesn't throw any wrenches :-)

The model you describe is a winner but it works mostly when you have it operate on a high end kind of deal, like the Sundance Kabuki here or the Arclight in LA or the others in LA that now operate like that.

The Parkway is an awesome place, but it has a location that's not easily accessible by BART and AC, and can't always get the movies they want. They mostly do 2nd run films and were really hurt by the holders of the rights to Buffy shutting down the "sing along" nights they used to do with that musical episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

It was a cool place though. I spent my 32nd birthday there with my girlfriend watching godzilla movies and so on. It was awesome.

Limo drivers who do this know they are committing a crime. I took pictures of one who pulled up to the Wharf in the summertime and was offering rides and he got REALLY upset when I took pictures and threatened to call the cops. He eventually left and I told folks who at first were like "WTF?" about how it's not only illegal - it's dangerous as the driver has no obiligation to honor these shifty deals. There have been reports of limo driver reneging on the deal and extorting more money out of tourists.

Better to hire a limo or town car yourself, and know what the deal is, instead of taking a fake cab ride instead.

I hear ya. When I first returned to SF after a short term in LA, I lived at Oak and Divisadero for about 2 months and I liked Popeye's just fine, as all the "old" divisadero attractions.

People who move to a neighborhood and immediately declare everything Not Upscale an "eyesore" and use the power of Civic Complaining to run everyone out not like them need to either move to Walnut Creek or deal.

PS: "entitled skinnywhiteyogabitch" and the granite countertop thing FTW. :-)

And apparently that bureaucrat is really angry at Julie and instead of doing his job is taking shots at her...and meanwhlie I get longwinded emails from the Mayor's people begging for more money to pay for more $100,000 parties. So Silly!

I was not particularly thrilled about backing the "nuclear option" myself (this as someone who promoted it on my blog). However, with a Mayor committed to excessive work orders and taking MUNI money and spending it elsewhere and an MTA that refused to listen to any ideas that would have come up with a better solution this was all we had left, and well, it happened.

Had the Mayor been more engaged with the Supervisors and the MTA in advance, they surely could have come up with a better budget that recognizes times suck now, but that doesn't mean inflicting long term damage on our infrastructure, or pissing away federal dollars because we'll get things like ticket machines and have no people to service them when they break down, etc.

The whole thing is just a sign of a lack of leadership, and it's really sad since surely a city with as many smart folks as ours can show the way, not follow along on Failwhale Lane with everyone else.

I'm really uncomfortable with the anti union bashing that's going on - the fact that BART tried to enlist bloggers to blast out their propaganda pissed me off.

the unions though are not in a great position - after Arnie and the Dems stole so much BART funding, it's really tough for BART to accomodate their demands. It's another example of how bad lawmaking in Sacramento can pass by unnoticed and the locals are the ones who have to feel the most pain. Sucks all around.

oh and Gavin sucks even more.

one of my favorite books, sitting right here on my shelf next to "City of Quartz." When I moved to LA I started reading up on all the LA history I could find, which later was useful for the SAG documentary.

i think any one or all of your stories would make for a great SF based film...and it doesn't have to cost a fortune...they are so desperate for stuff actually filmed here at the City they'll do anything....most of the TV Shows this fall "set" in sf are primarily filmed in LA...the only problem is you have to pay for PA's wheras in LA they work for free...

and, if you want to silk screen 'em and and sell 'em locally, email me and I can give you some advice. it's not super duper easy like with Zazzle (whose quality is really great) but you can sell 'em locally.

the only things they have that I've ever liked were their microwave pizzas (only on sale) when I'm too busy to cook something "real" and one or two of their spaghetti like entrees. the rest are too plasticky.

not only are they kinda gross and salty, you could make your own pasta with sauce combo, split 'em up into containers, and freeze some for future use, and they would taste better and cost a LOT less.

I bought a can of these things when I first moved into my apartment and had no food and the only store open was the corner store. It was a can of FAIL. But after I got settled, I made my own simple sauce with turkey sausage, a pound of pasta, and split 'em up. Total cost of ingredients was a little over $3 (sales!) and way better than this stuff.
