in Album Review: Death Magnetic on Consequence of Sound
Oh and why does everyone think Kill 'Em All should be included in their best albums? There were 2 good songs, the rest were skip-worthy, boring, and bland. Just a bunch of really fast, substance-lacking riffs, really. RTL was when they finally "got it."

in Album Review: Death Magnetic on Consequence of Sound
My hobby in the last 4 hours has been looking at all the DM reviews I could possibly find. Some of the things the reviews note tend to baffle me. People either love or hate the Unforgiven III. I personally love it. And I hated it the first time I heard it. The solo sucked, it didn't sound like the return to The Unforgiven that I was expecting, and I didn't think the intro meshed well with the bulk of the song. Then I listened again. Started to like it, like it more, then love it. It's just a fantastic song, and the lyrics have that sort of old-time sailing, or pirate-type theme which I think is a brilliant metaphorical background for the lyrics. And now everything seems to mesh. And the solo makes more sense to me now, as I can hear the subtleties in it better now. Although it doesn't sound at all similar to The Unforgiven, it follows the same philosophy - great job of building up, tearing down, then again building to a powerful climax. And it does so with ease - I've heard it now at least 20 times and still tend to get chills as the song builds to solo.

I don't see what the issue is with it being "sandwiched" between two other songs. This is not a rock opera - it is not an album intended to flow from one song to the next in a continuous manner. Each song could have been placed anywhere on the album, with the exception of the instrumental and opening song.

Oh and this is about the 4th review I've seen comparing that "The End of the Line" riff to "Animal" from Pearl Jam. Really not all that similar if you ask me. I think one guy said it, then every other review caught on after that... too uncanny.

in This Primary Campaign Has Brought Out The Best And Worst In Me on Jack and Jill Politics
The thing that bothers me is that I don't know how to reach the reasonable Hillary supporters without having to first weed out the unreasonable ones who would rather see McCain elected than Obama, or who would rather attack Obama for any and all perceived slights than to attack McCain for any of his overt inanities. For months now those who are past the point of unification have comingled with those earnestly supporting someone they thought was a better candidate, and differentiating the two now is nearly impossible.

I'll gladly try and convince anyone I think can be convinced to support our nominee, but I don't see the point in wasting time and effort on those "Democrats" who would rather see a Republican president than a black one.

in Prince Caspian: Why the Movie is Not Worth Seeing on Dale Fincher
Dale,
I haven't read your review yet, so far after reading your comments here, I doubt that I'll find much better commentary.

More and more people I have talked to, have loved the film and are recommending it to everyone they talk to. As you two should also be doing!

In response to your response, critics aren't impressive. Sure they can indicate a general view and reflect public opinion if you find enough of them who agree, but come on, what "industry critic" wouldn't give a thumbs down to an inherently Christian story. As you should know from your graduate work in philosophy you can find a sophist to stand up for any point of view. Speaking of critics rottentomatoes.com has Prince Caspian registering at 60%-80% favorable from about 150+ different critics. So don't give me "I was a theater major, I know better" lines.

If you really want to make an argument from how the masses accept the film, box office tallies would be a better indicator so only time will tell on that one. So far 55M on opening weekend ain't bad, it's no box office record but don't count your chickens till they hatch.

Here is a great commentary from a well respected Christian professor at some fundamental bible school in the LA area, Oh yeah, didn't you all go there? and get your fancy degrees from that school?

Read here Wonderful Film, Better Than the Book to see what other thoughtful Christian folks are saying about the film.

p.s. It's funny that the "impotently large figure" as you say, is clearly the Hero of the film who turns the tide. If that's what you call impotence, than get me some of that! The three princes/kings are protagonists, yes, brave, sure, but hero's, no. And if you don't think that Aslan is clearly the savior/hero of the film than the next best you could argue is Lucy, and she is only trusting in Aslan. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's called begging the question. Oops did I just beat up a straw-man, I'm gonna have to stop doing that.

in Prince Caspian: Why the Movie is Not Worth Seeing on Dale Fincher
Jonalyn, your just flat out wrong on this one!

I'm sorry but your commentary is maybe 5% to 10% accurate. And even then the places you get it right your perspective is so skewed you don't even allow yourself to see where the film makers did their job extraordinarily well and how true to the grand story Prince Caspian really was.

If I have time, I will write a point by point refutation of your flawed analysis, but in the meantime, everyone should go and see this film, it is fantastic! Granted it can have its cheesy moments, but it is an excellent presentation on the silver screen of Lewis' "Martian" novel in the Narnia Cronicles.

-see M.Ward's Planet Narnia for more info on the books mythological planetary themes.

in Firstline Security Cost Comparison on odd time signatures
Hi there,

Had two college kids come by last week offering to sell their new Simon XT alarm system. I thought it was a good deal since I was told the alarm package would be free in exchange for the placement of the yard sign. The technician guy showed up minutes after signing the contract and it wasn't untill he had left that I came across this site.. The package total for the new Simon XT system came to $1595.00 and the monthly monitoring is $44.95 a month. I called the next day and had the technician guy remove the system. We then received a call from one of the college kids and he wanted to give us a month free and he also said sorry for the big hole in the wall left by the Technician and that the company does not cover holes in walls. We finally agreed to 2 free months.. the college kids came by the next day and had us sign a new contract because the Technician guy took the contract home.. dnt know why but the new contract had a total of $1685.00 for the alarm system..?? and also I just found out that they charged my card, $44.95 already!!

WHY DOES EVERYONE SUSPECT SONY TO LOSE. THE JULY NPD NUMBERS ARE OUT AND THE PS2 IS STILL ON TOP OF EVERYONE INCLUDING THE 360. regardless if what phil says is right or wrong he has the right to say what ever he wants without fear because theyre dominating the almost non existant competition. If you check wiki youll see that the ps2 has SOLD about 107mill surpasing even the gameboy wich was redisigned several times

i agree with red the wii is just a gimmick. if you want motion sensing just get an eyetoy. its actualy a little bit cooler sense it puts you on the screen but it doesnt take long before you get tired of moving around. it is a good workout though.

the 360s gpu is more powerful than the ps3s? Dont make me laugh. its obvious judging from in game ps3 footage of games running off of unfinished dev kits that the ps3 is much more powerful than the 360.

I doubt they will go through with this. It would be wise for them to make profit on their home console before making a portable. sony didnt make a portable until after making the two most succesful console of all time. theres realy no reason for ms to rush this. they should focus on the 360 before the ps2 kills it. yes I said PS2!
