in 10 Reasons why Twitter is for you and FriendFeed is not on Scobleizer
Think a lot of it is the simplicity of twitter. It's just easy to set up and add users and follow people. Friendfeed might not be that much more work, but it looks like it.

in Free is the only business model for online news on The Equity Kicker
Interesting, wondering if the increase in traffic and ad income would offset the income from the subscribers (no matter how minimal the number of subscribers is). Would be interesting to see the wsj subs numbers and compare.

in Are serial entrepreneurs any better than first time entrepreneurs? on The Equity Kicker
sorry, missed a vital part in my comment, what about the quality of the plan/idea with the entrepreneurs who failed the first time. You can't control for that in a study, can you?

in Are serial entrepreneurs any better than first time entrepreneurs? on The Equity Kicker
What about entrepreneurs who failed the first time around? Aren't these more likely to have learned some lessons and might be due for a winner? All things being equal of course, if it's a bad idea and a bad leader does it matter?

Nic, what would you consider a reasonable valuation/investment in Twitter at these numbers?

in Free ad-supported music coming closer to reality on The Equity Kicker
Hope you're right about the free model we see, but instinct tells me to believe it when I see it.
By the way, thought the FT had instituted a 30 articles for free model, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/01/business/medi...

in Tough Times Ahead For The Web? on A VC
I think there are two economic challenges here. A macro challenge with the whole global economy - the iffy mortgages and the sale of debt all over the place and the presidential election are the inputs here. The second is a micro challenge within technology, which is more of a correction rather then a downturn. It happens in every industry, cycles, supply and demand balance out and the world is put right. The good will rise to the top of the economic cup, the bad will sink and we'll all just get on with things.

in The FPhone on A VC
Sounds like the ideal. Its a connection device, not just a voice device.
By the way, someone's just unlocked the IPhone:

in One Way Open Is Not Enough on A VC
It's what people do with the data that will be interesting. So now that the feeds are out let's see the widget's that take this one step further - i.e. integrate with blogs, push to mobile etc. My guess is that F'book has dipped it's toe in and will open up other elements once this trial goes smoothly.
Am I the only one who's concerned with the fact that people can see my friends posted items and all my friends status updates simply by knowing me?

in HMV is one of the most shorted stocks in history on The Equity Kicker
Think the brains behind HMV wish they had taken Permira off now? It's a shame, they have one of the strongest brands if only they had moved online sooner and stronger.

in Indie labels to sell music on MySpace on The Equity Kicker
But are the two audiences the same? I.e. are the people looking for the long tail of music the same people who are using myspace? My guess is no. Will be interesting to see how it pans out though.
