Nice post & thanks for including Zoho in many of the categories, Ben! There are more apps in the Zoho stable like Zoho Writer (word processor) and Zoho Chat (web chat).

Yes, the various Zoho apps indeed were developed separately (Zoho Writer got released in Sep '05 and Zoho Wiki in Dec '06). And each team that built the app had the freedom to choose their own UI. But now, we are working on converging everything. Expect a common UI (with various themes as choices) soon :-)
