Ummm. South Korea and Japan have the highest broadband usage rates in the world thanks to MASSIVE government investment in broadband infrastructure, and strict mandates and regulations that all rural areas and buildings have broadband that is faster than what almost any American consumer has available. In Western Europe and Canada, strict regulations require telecom companies to share bandwidth, provide equal access, and guarantee speeds.

The countries with fewer government regulations, mandates, and investment in consumer broadband? Western Africa, the Middle East, former Soviet republics. Oh, but they don't have a $1 Universal Access Fund either so I guess that's a plus.

Wow. Obama is talking about providing health care to dying children and your biggest problem is paying $1 to ensure rural America has phone service. I'm looking forward to your next post about how 911 (the FCC emergency phone call system) is a communist plot.

I can't wait until we have a Libertarian president so the FCC is dissolved and I can start my wireless spectum jamming service. Just $10,000/month, I'll unblock your cell phone, WiFi, TV signals, radio signals, and satellite! Maybe! We'll let the free market decide whether I actually unblock your technology or not. Probably not.

I agree with Regina. Just looking at the header -- "celebs/fashion/beauty/movies/music/love/life/shopping" -- it looks like every generic "for women" website out there. All it needs is a section for cleaning products. It's great that Liz covers the election, but the rest of the site looks like every other women's ghetto on the Internet.

i disagree completely. we don't need the clutter of more playlists and recommendations. i want recommendations from my friends and artists i like, not from fox news interactive.

it would have been nice if myspace added every indie artist, but artists can add whatever songs they want individually, or only a few if they choose. that's even better, i think.

horny goat weed has been available in little packets in just about every mini mart for years. it's an herbal supplement so nobody needs to do safety tests before selling it. i didn't think it could actually be effective, though!

really bad decision to pay so much for a domain name if you're trying to include "LBT" in "LGBT." would facebook have grown beyond its original user base if it was called "collegekids.com"? it sends a message that only gay men are welcome.

i agree with you 100% duncan. the "top songs you're missing" almost always shows songs i already have, and "recommendations" is nothing really but links to "buy." who is going to just start clicking "buy" on random songs? at least link to something besides mostly useless itunes reviews. if apple isn't willing to make or allow more content for music, put links to the band's wikipedia page or myspace page at least.

apple hasn't been doing great lately, with mobileme, genius, iphone problems (even though i still love mine), and safari kind of lagging behind chrome, ie8, and firefox.

none of the top 20 web 2.0 services by traffic from the recent hitwise survey ever started off as tech geek sites. every single one of them (except maybe gaia online) reached out to a mainstream audience from the start.

twitter, friendfeed, and digg aren't the future of the web (as companies, anyway). the future of the web will come from the meebos and plurks and tumblrs and picniks of the world -- none of which are popular with the techy/twitter crowd.

I think the Plurk will attract the MySpace/Livejournal/iPhone users of the world who like to express themselves and interact with friends. Twitter and Twitter-like services seem to attract the Facebook/LinkedIn/Blackberry users who like to get data and to network.

There's definitely room for both. Twitter and Facebook never appealed to me, but Plurk and MySpace definitely do. Most people here seem to prefer Twitter and Facebook.

Once another established network like MySpace, Twitter, or Yelp adds GPS, they'll be the winners.

It seems a lot easier to add GPS & Map functionality to a social network than vice versa. Just put people and/or businesses on a map and click the dot to go to a profile. Then step 2) ??? then step 3) profit.
