in “Speed Racer” first summer flopbuster? on Pop Critics
Cap'n: “Anyone who wants a live action adaptation of a cartoon, especially this one, to look “realistic probably wasn’t going to like this movie no matter what.
… thats going to be the majority of people…
Really? I'd like to see your proof of that. It's a kids movie for God's sake.

It'll EASILY make $40 million, maybe even by the end of Saturday, let alone for the weekend. I'm thinking more like $70million at least.
And Mike, you do know that The CW is partially owned by Warner Bros. right? I mean, come on, I never said it was going to be a good movie--I don't really expect it to be Lord of the Rings. But I do expect it to make money and not "flop".

It'll recoup the money. No problem there. It'll make a ton here, but it will be a monster overseas, especially in Japan.

You're basing whether this movie will make money on Rotten Tomatoes? Seriously? Come on now Mike. That audience is going to be people that are invested in the show or have families and don't even know what Rotten Tomatoes is.
This is really one of the only family movies until Wall-E comes out--this movie will make good money--probably not Iron Man money, but it will make money.
I'm seeing it tomorrow for free. I've read a few reviews, mostly negative, but the good ones are saying that it's a typical movie where you need to turn off your brain for a couple hours and that it really is just a visual spectacle. And you can't say with a straight face that teenagers won't eat that up.

in Lost recap, episode 4×11: “Cabin Fever” on Pop Critics
Richard is the key. HE was the leader of the Others when they took out the Dharma Initiative. HE's the one that does ALL the recruiting on the island, whether it's John Locke as a 5 year old or Juliet. HE is the leader of the Others at the mysterious Temple--which I have a feeling is where John, Hurley and Ben will end up.
As for the choosing, I think it could have been either the vial of sand, the compass or the Book of Laws. The sand could represent the island, which Jacob has apparently made to be Locke's now. It could be the compass just because of who he is. And the only reason I mention the book was because it was the only item besides the other two and the knife that the camera lingered on. Flimsy reasoning, but there it is.
NO IDEA about Claire. I'm baffled.
Good to see Sayid and Des again. Looks like Des will have more to do next week. About time.

in New trailers for The Dark Knight and Indiana Jones on Pop Critics
The Indy trailers have been awful so far, but I'm not going to use them as the gauge of whether the movie is good. I'll see it no matter how bad the trailers are (I mostly have technical problems with them, mostly editing).
The Dark Knight trailer, though, looks great and I'm really looking forward to it.

in Mike Judge To Direct Jason Bateman In New Film “Extract” on Pop Critics
Glad he's hitting the corporate business setting again--Idiocracy was awful, so hopefully this will be a return to the Office Space sort of comedy.

It should be noted that in the history of the show, I think it's safe to say Sawyer has showed the most character growth. Maybe a tie between him and Jin.

in Recaps: The Office, 30 Rock on Pop Critics
Don't get me wrong, I think he's written great--Tina Fey is a terrific writer and Tracy Morgan has some great lines. I just can't get past his delivery--I'm not sure if he's supposed to be acting like he can't act or what, but everything I've seen him do is the same. I just think he isn't a skilled actor, but I can understand how he can grow on people.

Good news is with Penny becoming a target, we might finally be able to find out what has happened to Desmond in the flash-forwards.

in Recaps: The Office, 30 Rock on Pop Critics
I liked the Office, but I think this might have been the wrong episode of 30 Rock for it to be my first ever. I thought Tina Fey was great, but Tracy Morgan is just an awful, awful actor. I just couldn't get past that. I've never seen a guy with that many great lines just be a disaster when actually saying them.

in Facebook adds chat, just got a bit cooler on Pop Critics
Facebook's only problem is that there are just TOO MANY apps. Your page just becomes too cluttered.
Myspace would be much cleaner if their skins would actually work, but since they don't, it always looks broken.

in “The Day The Earth Stood Still” Being Mutilated For Remake on Pop Critics
Why even call it a remake then? Especially when it clearly is not.
Do you think the reception for the script and film would be better if "The Day The Earth Stood Still" wasn't the title or even mentioned? Probably.

in FOX adds Virtuality to their slate of new shows on Pop Critics
Sounds pretty interesting, however I question their "end game", which admittedly might not have anything to do with the show except to be a convenient plot device to give them a reason to be on the journey in the first place.
But remember the show "Millenium"? It was a decent show, but it was cancelled the year before the Millenium actually occured--kind of defeats the purpose. Now this show has a "10 year journey". Sort of funny, actually.

in X-Files 2 finally gets title: “I Want To Believe” on Pop Critics
GREAT Title. Other than "The Truth is Out There", I don't think there is a better one.
It implies a mysteriousness that is great and in tune with the show. What should we want to believe? I think that line sums up the entire show.

Can he do the job?
The odds are not good.
If The Happening bombs, will this still happen? I don't think even he can overcome 3 straight awful movies.

I think you're unintentionally affecting the outcome of these votes! Saying Maximus can only fight in an arena? He kicked some German arse in the middle of freaking forest!
Jason Bourne is cool, but let's face it, he's still played by Matt Damon. Maximus forever!
