I believe that we are indeed, as you suggest, making some serious gains online. Right now it's hard for a lot of people to see because a lot of it is more foundation and infrastructure development, but it is happening and it's happening fast.

I think we still have a collaboration hurdle to understand and get over, but we're getting there.

Re: Are We On the Verge of a Rightroots Movement?

@Eli: You make a good point, but I would argue that not all people are going to be comfortable using certain social networks or tools.

I, for example, love Twitter and use it more than anything else. But Joe Somebody may not like Twitter at all. In fact, he might like to be active only at MySpace. So focusing all of our efforts on Twitter would not bring Joe into the scene because it isn't fitting for him.

So, with this in mind, I think we need to find leaders in each social realm/community/sphere and have these leaders collaborate with leaders in other areas. That way we're utilizing every social network/media/tool as possible, but keeping people only active in the areas they want to be.

Thoughts?

Re: Are We On the Verge of a Rightroots Movement?

I'm soooo happy that I, unlike you, do not spend too much time over thinking the topic at hand.

The blessedness of simple really is just that... a blessing.

Re: 2008/05/13/craigslist-sues-eba/

I say good on em'! eBay is acting like a kid too big for his/her britches and it's good to see Craigslist fighting back.

And I agree, this may well get VERY ugly.

Re: 2008/12/11/wordpress-27-plugins/

Glad to see that cforms came out compatible so quickly. News media 1.0 was controlled from the top down... that model simply doesn't work anymore.

Back then I think media sources were built on a foundation of control. Now, however, I think successful media sources are built on a foundation of community.

So, in essence, MSM needs to shift to a community based model that is collaborative and inclusive instead of a centrally controlled exclusive set up.

My two...

Re: Do newspapers have a shot?

@Joe

They already HAVE their own unique product.
