Read The Photograher's Right, a one-page PDF that sums up where you can and can't take photos in the US. I'm not sure if there's a Canadian analogue to this guide. It appears this couple is in a public place, so any expectation that they cannot be photographed would be unreasonable South of the border.

k4 Just because a one-page pdf says it's legal doesn't mean every parent and beat-cop will agree. While it my not mean you get a criminal record, the cop may decide it's easiest to take you downtown and let someone else figure out who's right and who's wrong. I have read about incidences in the UK and Canada. I have not read of any here in the US involving children, but I have read of ones here where people get in trouble for taking photos of the outsides of buildings. It's not right, but it could really ruin your day ven if you are in the right.

Pauley Probably very correct, but not what I was looking for. Think less legality and more fundamental. Out of my regular readers, you're one of a few I expect to figure it out. :-D

I don't usually go for the sweeter wines with meals, but for dessert - hard to beat! Kelly and I first tried icewine on a visit to Niagara on the Lake in 2004, and we've tried several Finger Lakes variants since then that are also quite good. Like K4, I also dig the Ports and Port-style wines (technically, true Port only comes from Portugal) - Sandeman's reserve is one of my favorites. Also enjoy drizzling a little icewine over some sliced peaches or mixed berries...

andy This is a tangent, but I think the most wonderful thing I've ever had for dessert is limoncello drizzled over frozen berries and vanilla ice cream.

Having said that, I don't really like sweet wines. About the furthest I'll go is a Gewurztraminer. =P And finding NY wines in San Diego is, well, practically impossible. And that makes me sad.

Pauley I hear good things about drizzling icewine over ice cream, as Andy suggests below with the limoncello liqueur.

My vote would have to go to "F1 Race" for GameBoy (pretty sure that was the title - I should go dig that out and look)... I entertained myself for many a car trip or plane ride playing that one!

As long as "Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters" doesn't appear on the list, then my fave will stay intact. Oh wait - indie roasters don't have to worry about lists from corporate, do they? :)

Must not be a fan of Michael Moore's movies either...

I wish there were more videos of alpha-geeks exclaiming that "200x will be the year of the Linux Desktop!" so that someone could put together a montage of them... I'm almost as sick of hearing that as I am of politicians!

My guess would be the LiIon battery. Having witnessed plenty of controlled destructive tests of LiIons, I can say with certainty that (upon combustion) they definitely release enough energy to cause this result!

When a LiIon is catastrophically punctured by a conductor (in this case, presumably by the blender's metallic blade or some metallic portion of the phone's frame) it rapidly enters thermal avalanche. The reactants deliver a very large localized instantaneous current to the short, causing heating of both the cell material and the conductor causing the short. The rapid temperature rise results in combustion of the cell, starting at the puncture point and flash-expanding radially.

What amazed me was that the combustion appeared to consume all of the phone's materials except the metal frame - including the plastic shell, the LCD and glass, the components, copper traces, and the printed circuit board substrate!

in Godspeed, fast ferry on Digital Brainwaves
Hrmm...lets see... It costs the city of Rochester about $3000 each day the ferry is docked here. If sending a group of people over to the ass-backwards UK to straighten things out will really get the job done - at a conservative cost of about $30,000 (if they all fly business class) - why didn't they do it MONTHS AGO?!!

After my pissyness at the city died down, all I could think of was Mayor Duffy reading Dennis Farina's line from Snatch saying "Yes, London. You know? Fish, chips, cup-o-tea... Bad food, worse weather, Mary Fuckin Poppins, London!"
