Plus, the experience doesn't look a whole lot better than the original "for the web" content.

After HP bought us, we looked at this problem from exactly this perspective— make is less wasteful— and then decided to add convenience and esthetics to it as well. Go check out what we're doing for TechCrunch for a good example of the former, or see what the print button does to my blog to see an example of the esthetics.

Now granted, we seem to have caught the big company disease of being poor at communicating this to the rest of the world, but you can get started here with either approach.

Waste from printing is a huge deal which is not lost of folks at HP.

Re: oops!

This is actually somewhat on point and is good advice. As the sheepish CEO behind Tabblo, my response may be interesting to you. One thing though: I am not sure what Kerry "bigger problem" is. We're all rowing in the same boat here, and learning from posts like yours is one of the things we'll do.

Re: State of the Nation

Yup, for the most part I tend to agree with you/Steve. However, what I'd like to see more of is some of these neat feature/companies that really leverage the whole primordial soup that we've come to know as Web2 develop into real businesses. If the big change ends up being that VCs are displaced because starting a startup just means cooking a prototype until a bog portal co. takes you out for $5-7MM, I'm not sure sure we are left in a better place than where we started. That is, I'm not sure you could get the next Apple, or Microsoft out on an environment like that.

Re: 2006/05/21/paraaz-flash-based-photo-sharing/

I completely agree with the point about de-centralized photo hosts. Every new photo app out there should be clearly providing a benefit above all else that is out there, working hard to make sure that they can "play nice" with other photo sites, and generally laser focused on why they deserve a bookmark spot on your browser toolbar.

Re: 2007/03/03/wtf-is-cisco-doing/

That Andreessen quote is a cheap shot. Despite the fact that Marc's old "reducing them to ... buggy device drivers" is one of my favorite all-time quotes, this one just begs the retort, maybe Ning actually would be better at building optical switches. After all, the remain unproven as a SNS or even as an SNS-toolbuilder.

Re: Photo walking with Thomas Hawk

Zooomr is lucky to have Thomas. Before he went there, he was a real boon to use at Tabblo and we miss him dearly! Thomas, any time you want to compose a tabblo of the cool stuff you're now putting on Zooomr, we'd love to see it.

As to the acceleration of the pace of innovation that Zooomr is bringing back into the mix– I say fabuloso!
