in The Technology Liberation Front » Archive » Cox Goes Rather Too Far: Congress Shouldn’t Investigate CBS on The Technology Liberation Front
First I must say that I overwhelmingly agree with James and the previous comments posted so far on this "burdensome" issue. I concur that there is no real place for the U.S. Congress to get involved in investigating Dan "the man" Rathers. The implications would mean immediate doom for all of the millions and millions of Americans who use the First Amendment as their battle shield whenever they attempt to assert their opinions in a seemingly always "fashionably late" way; however, I believe this topic is worth considering from the other side. The current influence the media has over the majority of Americans is uncomprehendable. Most people recieve all of their information through a television, and what they hear and see is generally what they believe. Given that, it seems acceptable to conclude that the media has a massive influence over people's opinions, and their votes. Given this, and the recent blunder by Rather, it might be time for people to realize the saying "believe none of what you hear, and half of what you see," when watching their daily news reports.
Investigation, no.....grain of salt realization, yes....
