I am a huge fan of 300. Love the power of the wife...and the sweaty men. But, it was a movie!!
I'm afraid that the U.S. are not the Spartans in this real life drama. More often than not, we're the Persians attempting to force ourselves on others...when it suits us...like when there's oil involved.

Thank you for posting McCain's essay on patriotism. You saved me from tracking it down.
I tried to remain objective and agreed with much of what he said. But, I have to say that ultimately I was not particularly inspired by his words.
The closing remarks just felt cynical and the call to join the armed services reminded me of the MoveOn.com ad that's running. If vengance and oil profiting are the purpose of the war...you can't have my son either.

in Friday Open Thread…..yeah, it’s Friday on Jack and Jill Politics

I checked out your blog and felt the same way that you did about the ad. I have to admit that it was more of a feeling (sad, sinking, rejected, neglected, etc.) than a conscious thought. Then, like you, re-watched the ad 3 times. Nope, no black people there...besides Obama.
A friend talked me back from my disappointment. (Thanks, Texas Girl) The verbal message was good and this 1st general ad needed to reach a new audience. It was helpful to see the target strategy map (earlier in this blog) showing the states where the ad will be placed.
My ego is once again in check and my eyes are on the prize. However, if all of his ads over the next 4 months continue to show no cultural diversity...
I'll be a pissed-off-but-still-voting-for-Obama-b*tch come November.

in The Clinton Legacy with Black Voters on Jack and Jill Politics
We won the nomination and we're still upset about how things went down. Imagine how the losers (Clintonites) are feeling. Then realize that we're ALL going to be losers, if we don't get on the same page.
I'm less concerned with Obama's ability to foster inclusiveness than I am with our individual ability to push away potential supporters. As I've said in previous posts, follow Obama's lead.
Be Magnanimous,
Be Empathetic,
Be Knowledgeable,
B. Obama '08

in The Obamas Leave Trinity on Jack and Jill Politics
Obama TRIED to stay with the church that had been a central part of his family life. But...
His continued affiliation with Trinity was detrimental to everyone.
And, unless the man has been frontin' the whole time, the messages sent by Wright and Pfleger did not seem to align with his core beliefs. Yeah, he might have giggled at bit like the rest of us. But, he seems to be promoting inclusiveness and moving beyond our typical divisive b*s*.
The questions we have to ask ourselves are:
Are WE ready to move beyond the divisiveness?
What are WE ready to give up in order to do so?
Do we REALLY want him to be our next president?
Barack Obama (still a black Christian man) as President in '08!

I know that the election is critical right now. But, when we get past this, I say that we start a campaign to get Frank's Place released on DVD. It was one of the smartest sitcomes of all time.

in Let’s Make Some Phone Calls to the CBC on Jack and Jill Politics
Thanks for the contact list. I sent the following email to as many representatives as I could...had to "work around" the zip code issue. I don't know if anyone of them will actually read the email, so I wanted to share it here.
Be Blessed

I can understand how someone might have started this long primary journey as a Clinton supporter. I'd like to briefly share my journey...just some of the highlights:
> I began as a Clinton supporter -- their platforms are similar, but Clinton has "more" experience
(Although, I was concerned that she voted for the war.)
> Then, Obama spoke to my heart in Iowa -- something Hillary has never done
> Then, Bill Clinton compared Obama to Jesse Jackson and discounted his win in S.C. -- what??
> Then, Obama renounced Reverend Wright's words, but not the man -- what integrity!!
(This is when I became a full-fledged Obama supporter.)
> Then, Hillary Clinton brought up the "hard working, white people" -- so what am I??
> Then, Obama more fully renounced Wright - diplomatically, firmly, painfully
> Then, Hillary decided to not count caucus states and add in FL and MI -- huh??what??
> Most recently, Hillary Clinton made her most horrible mistake. Invoking assassination as a reason for staying in the race was bad. But, failing to see the need to truly apologize for her words is far worse.
She's starting to remind me of George W. Bush...she's the "decider," can do no wrong and wants to win at any cost. Her politics are divisive, her message feeds on misery and her actions throughout this campaign are not something to emulate.
Please vote based on what you believe is best for this country. That is what I'm going to do.
Best Regards,
Be Blessed

WOW!!
Thank you for all of the suggestions. I'm getting on it right now!
Our venting sessions are a much needed release and critical information is shared. But, the real power in this blog using that fire (rage) and info to take positive action.

Folks!
Breathe...and Believe!
I'm exhausted, also. My head and my heart hurt. But, I keep going back to "Whatever doesn't kill me, makes me stronger." ... I could beat Superman's a** after all of this drama!
That said, this is all practice for the real showdown in November. An article in the Huffington Post breaks it down nicely.

in WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS? on Jack and Jill Politics
Be Careful and Conscious!
Just as Hillary Clinton's actions are only hurting her (campaign, reputation, etc.)
Our own anger and frustration will only hurt and impede us. Follow Obama's lead. This campaign is just getting started.
As Ghandi said "Be the change you wish to see in the world." In other words...
B(e) Obama
(Admittedly corny...but its how I feel.)
