Another funny thing is... the more expensive the hotel, the more likely they are to charge for internet, etc.

The Ritz Carlton and the J. Willard Marriott both charge but Marriott's Fairfield Inn and Courtyard typically don't.

Hmmmm... see, I have a different definition of trouble... and that would be NOT having all of my accounts and passwords written down in one place. Yes, perhaps there is a slight degree of risk involved, but without it remembering all my usernames and passwords (similar though they may be) using all the online services I do would be impracticable. Besides... who's gonna' look in my desk drawer... or is it in my closet ;)

Amen. You can always try pressing zero a bunch of times to see if you get kicked straight to an operator... but it doesn't always work.

For me, something that's helped is an online subscription to Consumer Reports. It costs $20 or $30 bucks, but it's been worth every penny.
