Why perl? It's so 1998. Why not use some web 2.0 buzzword compliant language?

Hey, if we can't get it, how bout we open a store named "Sizzle's" or "Saute's", make a nice logo in red, have a different theme for every store (one could be dinosaurs, another with pioneers) and make sure half the boxes contained previously returned items. We'll keep our fingers crossed that we don't get sued, and have to change our paint scheme the next week.

Oh, and get In'N Out to set up shop here please! There's certainly enough strip malls for both of the California wonder merchants.

You might want to check out ack[0], if you find (pun intended) yourself combining grep and find a lot.

Not sure I userstand "how Python would fare if it got equal treatment."? Python is one of the languages Google uses (besides employing Guido), it makes sense that Python is the (or at least the initial language for AppEngine).

Have you messed with Python or Ruby at all? I've known many developers that have left perl/java/php for either python or ruby and haven't looked back.

I'll concede that CPAN is a huge benefit to perl....
