Not sure I userstand "how Python would fare if it got equal treatment."? Python is one of the languages Google uses (besides employing Guido), it makes sense that Python is the (or at least the initial language for AppEngine).
Have you messed with Python or Ruby at all? I've known many developers that have left perl/java/php for either python or ruby and haven't looked back.
I'll concede that CPAN is a huge benefit to perl....

You obviously didn't understand why my tongue was in my cheek, the changing paint schemes, and mentioning In'n Out.... ;)

Hey, if we can't get it, how bout we open a store named "Sizzle's" or "Saute's", make a nice logo in red, have a different theme for every store (one could be dinosaurs, another with pioneers) and make sure half the boxes contained previously returned items. We'll keep our fingers crossed that we don't get sued, and have to change our paint scheme the next week.
</take tongue out of cheek>
Good luck though Scott, when I'm in need and in the Bay Area I make a trip to Fry's....
Oh, and get In'N Out to set up shop here please! There's certainly enough strip malls for both of the California wonder merchants.

Makes more sense now. Thanks.
(BTW it doesn't "beg the question" though, see http://begthequestion.info/ )

Why perl? It's so 1998. Why not use some web 2.0 buzzword compliant language?
(Not this is a serious question, not meant as flamebait or a language bashing session)

Primary reason: I'm building an Apache module and that means C or Perl.
That begs the question: why an Apache module? Because Apache is a
very nice Web development framework. :-)
