Folks are all scurrying to grab their material wealth than to save their own lives. Not to mention how folks thought the ship to be unsinkable. I agree with Diane, motherhood can cause many o your brain cells to just not click right. But, something about this story just doesn't settle well with me. Hope all is well with you...In reading all the Darfur posts today, makes you realized just how blessed we are! Before researching and reading the great references provided by Modern Musings - I was about to write a post on how stupid the debate was over the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and whether Bush should participate. Then I learned about China's part in what's happening in Darfur. I'm certainly re-thinking my position on that one! Man's inhumanity to man without consequences continues to amaze and sadden me. Anyway - my eyes have certainly been opened, too MMO! Ya'll have a good one! Oh yeah - did you catch Obama and Hilary on CNN tonight...very interesting but I must admit I went to sleep on the Queen ! Unfortunately, this teacher "took the bate" and will probably not teach another day of her life. It's probably - because she's a sub - that she may not be a licensed teacher with a degree in education. I know many folks with a couple of years of college who substitute in the school system here. If this is the case in this situation, this woman was put into classroom with no formal training in education and classroom management. That is certainly a formula for disaster.

But, having said all that, if the student swung first, the teacher has to defend herself - and if that had happened to me, I probably would have beat her a$$ till it rope like okra!

SjP

Re: Sunday Inspirations: Beautiful Thoughts

Ms Marva - much obliged for reminding me to PUSH. Its so hard to even put it into words that make sense. My kids will be voting for the first time in November. They were babies when Clinton ran the first time and I took them to the polls. That was the first time that my husband voted. We were all so excited about voting for someone with whom we could identify. Even the kids cast "kiddie ballots" for Clinton. The fact that we will all have the opportunity to cast our vote for an African American for President is just so surreal. WOW!!!

There is, in my mind, an irony about Barack's candidacy, too. I talked about it briefly at SjP's. For the first time, it provided a real sense of inspiration rather than just a message of hope. Facing the Rising Sun

Have a Blessed and Inspired Week!

SjP

Re: Sunday Inspirations: What Is A Dad?

Marva - I am so moved by your above post. Much obliged for sharing with us your most personal and deepest thoughts and feelings. This is a tough day for many of us daughters who have longed for a lasting or continued relationship with their Fathers. But, for those of us who struggle with this day - we have to - as you say, forgive and move on. That is what makes us whole again giving us the strength to provide our own children with the knowledge that they are indeed loved.

Happy Father's Day to You and Yours!

SjP

Re: The 10Spot: Things I Am Just Confused About

10 - R.: The well kept secret that every body knows is that R is and alway has been a pedophile. Why the Chicago DA's office didn't build a case 'beyond a shadow of a doubt' is truly beyond me. The case they didn't have - not the verdict - is truly beyond me!

9 - Attacks on Michelle: What's happening to Michelle is evidence that America really doesn't know the nature of a Black Woman. They better recognize! Barack has tried to warn folks that they better leave her alone. But in that warning, these folks think that if they don't he'll go on the attack. I think not! He's trying to warn them against the tongue-lashing that will be received from Michelle. Hey! she's trying to be cool...but I suggest they leave her alone before she has an "OH HELL NO" moment and commences to taking off the earrings!

8 - Tiger: The best...simply the best! That's all I go to say about that!

7 - No Air: This song...Flavor of Love... What can I say!

6 - Don’t Fight It: I took Celtics in 5 when the series started! Maybe next year Kobe!

5 - The HRC Women: Wait till McCain puts their a$$es to work in at Micky-D's at below minimum wage with no health care and they see their tax dollars going to Iraq and their right to privacy flushed down the toilet - then they'll wish that they would have voted for "an inadequate Black man" (in the words of Harriet Christian). These women - the lot of them - are simply STUCK ON STUPID with Bartoshevich leading the pack!

4 - John McCain? I think he's a "Manchurian Candidate". There! I've said it! Been trying not to since he's a war hero. But, I ask you - where are the other soldiers who were captured in that POW camp? Was he the only one? I'm just asking...just saying...

3 - Floods In Iowa: "There's flooding in Iowa?" President Bush answered while exchanging his dollars for Euros during his trip to Paris.

2 - Don’t Sleep: I like JT! and Flavor of Love, too!

1 - R.I.P. Tim: Yes, R.I.P! He was genuine and sincere. Sunday mornings will not be the same... I didn't realize until this weekend that he was so loved and respected in the journalistic world or that he was truly a mentor. I will certainly miss him.

We have no control over the day our journey begins or the day our journey will end. We only have control what we do and the paths we take during this journey. I pray that during my journey, I leave the pile higher than I found it for those who will come after.

SjP

Re: Old School Friday: Favorite Female Singers

Yeah! Great idea...wonderful insight. Here are some of my thoughts:
10. The Pact - this is about the most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard. But, can't say I'm surprised. My fear is that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

9. Dave - LOLOLOLOL!!!

8. Michelle on the View - I'm gonna follow your lead on this one and stop linking to SOS blogs and posts that try to taint her.

7. Will Smith - DAMN!

6. Olympics, coca-cola...

3. R. Kelly - PEDOPHILE

2. Sun - DeAngelo, FINALLY! Maxwell - that would be too good, too.

1. Y&R - don't watch the soaps anymore - but I may have to start DVRing Y&R!

Really liking your view from here!
SjP

Re: Old School Friday: Gospel/Praise/Worship/Inspirational

Love Kirk! My "baby brother" was on a path to real self distruction (at best) a few years ago. It was hard on all of us. Talking to him and praying for him seemed to be falling on deaf ears. He was really in a bad way. As he hit rock bottom, my mother and I came to his rescue - as in the past - but this time it was different. He left his environment and moved in with me. He literally had no place to go. He was isolated when he moved in with me so therefore, he was able to start getting rid of his own demons. Just when he was at his lowest point, he hit a break through. He claimed it and was able to turn his life around. That was nearly 25 years ago.

I believing and praying that your brother will understand the lesson, but in learning that lesson you may be challenged once again to be there to help him threw it.

(I was wondering if I should put all this in this comment. Then I was kicked off the internet. When I got back on, the comment was still here...Divine Intervention!)

Re: Sunday Inspirations: I Believe

I believe-
That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

So true! Love it, though - but , I loved the other one too. Now for the 10spot:

Oprah's Shit: ABSOLUTELY! Just because these women made Oprah rich - they think she owes them something! New flash! Oprah don't owe you shit in a handbasket. She still signs all the payroll checks! Saw Oprah a few years ago and while she was off-camera somebody kept asking her about Dr. Phill. Finally she told the woman "I own Dr. Phill". Nuff said?

Just Ewww: Nasty just plain nasty! I tried to look at it from the point of view that the child is just a baby herself - but, its still nasty. No home training? I'm tired of this "all american family" being pushed down my throat, too. These folks got some skeletons buried. Wonder if that's the reason she wants to drill so bad before global warmning thaws all the snow and we find out what's really buried out there in the snow.

Look at this All Day: Ah Yes!!!!

She Ain't Ready: D*mn! During that time, choice was not a legal or safe option. I know of women my age who, because of trying to self-abort or having an abortion, were unable to bear children. Making the decision to have or not have an abortion is a very private and soul searching decision. It is a decision that - whether legislated or not - will not stop women from having abortions. It will, however, result in women being scared for life or die if they choose not to choose life. While there are many alternatives to having an abortion, I think this is a reality that is not often brought into the discussion. It is for that reason that I am pro-privacy - which, I guess makes me pro-choice.

Re: Girl, Boo!

oooo! that was really bad!

Re: Old School Friday: Karaoke Songs

Happy OSF! I hear you on this one. I grew up listening to the Four Tops, so this was really a shocker and very sad. I posted my favorite FT cut - Sad Souvenirs along with Aretha's tribute to Levi in my sidebar. Bring some tissues with you if you drop by to listen...

9. I'm operating on the "wish a mf would" call me with that robot sh*t. If they do, I'm going straight to Lt. Dan's site and let him have a piece of a real angry black woman's mind.

And this Joe the Plumber crap. Well, think about it. Lt. Dan called himself playing one-up-manship on Obama by bringing him up during th debate. But, he didn't know Joe's last name - Barack told him what Joe's last name was. Lt. Dan is sooooooo stupid that he fell right into Obama's trap. Obama knew that Joe had baggage cause you can bet that they knew all about Joe's issues. They also knew that Lt. Dan would try to use Joe against him. See they keep playing Obama for stupid. Maybe they'll realize the error of their ways on Nov. 5.

8. Everything - every aspect of it - is deliberately and methodically thought out and planned. Up to and including the Powell endorsement. I really believe that he (obama) knew this endorsement was coming his way probably as far back as April. This looks like a no-trump boston with 4 aces being played here to me.

It ain't no way that That One could raise 150 million have 100K at a rally in St. Louis and not be much further ahead than the polls are showing or being reported. That "willing" part was really pretty hard cause it meant - at least in my mind - that it would mean that I'd have to give up something. Well, had to give up somethings but its all good (smile).

"I wonder if he is going to make it through". Sorry to tell you but you gonna be wondering this for at least the next 4 years. It gets worst before it gets better - but some how someway they come around. Well, I don't really know if they come around or that you just get tired. LOL!

BTW - like the new design. Truly a well deserved honor. Some years ago, I had the great pleasure of meeting one of the first Black women pilots. Her name was Willa Brown. What was truly amazing about her story was that she actually trained some of the Tuskeegee airmen at a small little airport in my (little and all Black) hometown in Illinois.

Re: Old School Friday: I Can Drink To That…

Love it!
