in Mozilla and Opera Complain About Windows 7 on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Did you notice that Kubuntu makes Konqueror the default webbrowser? What an outrage!
And Mac OSX, if I remember well, their default web browser is Safari! How could they!
And they you have to install a new one and click "yes" to the "want me to be your default browser?" question! It's horrible.
Can we get a bit of perspective, please? This is simply ridiculous.

in The Righteous Web on Chris Brogan
What you wrote Chris about the social webs simply providing tools should not even be a question. The fact that it is suggests that some people have a sort of religious reverence toward the social webs, trying to keep them for the One True Purpose - whatever it should be.

in How To Slam Dunk Job Interviews on IT Career Coach
Ok, I understand your one month preparation now.
It's not about that exact interview, it's a general "be prepared" attitude.
A question: Do you plan to run a similar post on the other side?
"How to run an interview" or such?

Great advices!
Just a few things though:
34. Start your interview preparation a month or more before you take the interview
I usually have a week notice at most before an interview. And they don't tell the company most of the time.
12 Do not negotiate compensation before you get an offer
46. After taking a job interview, decline to discuss your pay until you get a job offer
This is one of the first questions you have to answer: what is your salary expectation.
You can't even get an interview before you answer this question. And no "I'm flexible" and "it depends". No, they want exact amounts.
I wish it was not. But I liked your advices, they are practical and good :)

Thank you, Thank you!
I got tired and did not bother to leave a similar comment on all the sites that touted that "social media proven to be THE solution".
Especially when they actually mean the "small bit of social media that is done online and of which the majority of the human race never even heard of".
We still suffer from tool obsession, and a rather big echo chamber effect. And then again we are at the "well, we have no idea what to do but we do it with .... and we will win!"
Thank you, I am glad there are sane voices left. :)

I find it immensely hilarious that people, who haven't got the faintest idea of what is happening, have such a definite and unshakeable opinion.
Of course, everyone is entitled to have an opinion.
But having some facts behind it would make it a bit more credible, than simply drawing shouting "the russians are bad!" line.

in Apple vs. Windows Pricing: It’s All About TCO on Zoli's Blog
Well, it's true that a Windows machine is not really cheaper than a Mac machine.
The problem is that there is NO low end machine for Mac.
I can start with 500USD, then gradually, as I have money improve it.
With Mac I just have to shell out the 2000USD at once. Or more, if I don't want the cheapest Mac.
(Yes, here it starts at around 2000USD.)
So for me Mac is not an option. Not to mention that the Mac service here is the worst you can find. And costs a lot.
I have to note though, that I have 0 problems with Windows, a bit more with Linux and only know 2 people who owns Mac - one of them returned it after about 4 months, he could not cope with the continues crashing and freezing. You know, the faulty series they had to recall for overheating all the time.
So, all in all, as far as I am concerned they are the same quality and price, Mac is better for music and graphics, Windows for gaming and general usage, Linux for practicing command line stuff. :)

No it is totally different you see, It's the US. They are the good guys, it's written on some papers, so it is not like when the same thing is done by the "bad" guys.
Actually, I don't worry, because I don't intend to go to the US any time soon.

Well, as long as the number of zeros stay below 0 - or, in case it climbs to 4, you change the USD to HUF :)

@Joe
I have to correct you. There are people who are not making any money out of it - like me and my friends - and we are there since. Well, a long time.
Appeal? It's not pre-canned, we can make our own fun. True, it means you have to make an effort, actually have to think about what your goal is, but if you like real RP then it is one of the bests.
For the subscription fee, you don't have to pay, SL is fully functional even if you don't pay anything.
As for the not long. I don't know. Is 1.5 years long? 2 years, 3 years, or like some friends 4 years?
I think until I keep meeting creative and fun people there, I don't really care if it has entrepreneurs too.
But that's just my two cents.

With all due respect, so called early adopters/influencers can decide what is hot in their sight, but 90% of the people simply don't care about them.
Twitter is hot - 90% of people does not know what's that
FriendFeed is hot - 90% of people never heard of that
SMS is not hot - everyone uses it.
We try to make the "early adopters" make more influential than they are.
You know who persuades a lot of people about WoW being cool? The guy who is not tech savy, not an early adopter but loves Fantasy.
SecondLife is advertised by non-tech savy people, who like it - note: there are more European and Asian people on SL than US residents. Most of them never heard of the "early adopters" crowd.
Sometimes, just really sometimes we should poke our head out of the echo chamber.
On the Macs. Sure, in the US probably they have a lot more. Problem is, the world is not made up of the US. And here, for example it's about 1 MAC for 80 PCs.

in Resumes Are Dead. Your Blog is Your Resume. (Still). on Zoli's Blog
Ok, just some new points as I discovered in the past few months.
When you put your resume on an internet jobsite, and you post your own site's link right there, people click on it AFTER reading your resume.
I got visitors from monster.co.uk, around the time I got a call from a recruiter - yesterday if I look at the time, he probably had it on his screen while we were talking on the phone -, or the day when they check my CV, although it is not a confirmed connention, it's just an observation, when my CV is viewed, on the same day I got visitors from monster.co.uk.
Well, I am not waiting to be hired based on my blog, but I am sure I can blow a chance if I act stupid there :)
I just have to find a way to write about my professional experiences which is difficult, as most of it falls under NDA with rather high penalties.

As it happens I read from top to bottom in my feed reader, so first I read this post

and then this

It just was too funny, sorry :)

in Email is Not in Danger, Thank You on Zoli's Blog
Ah, yes.. I forgot one of the things I like about e-mails.
They don't disrupt my work.
IMs do. Ringing the phone does. Walking up to my desk does.
E-mails just sit quietly, patiently and wait for me to respond.

in Email is Not in Danger, Thank You on Zoli's Blog
I agree, e-mail will have it's place. There are things you can not put on a wiki, cannot put on a blog, or shoot it out over IMs, but have to send it in e-mails.
Like a "thank you" letter, a summary of a meeting, etc. Polite, bit more personal than a blog, but not too personal stuff belong to the e-mail I think.
Everything has it's proper place. As far as I know nothing has replaced the wedge, which is considered the first "simple machine". :)

I think UPC would get hit with an invoice for about 20 hours. Counting only the period since I canceled my Net service.
And then MS, Apple, Sony, Dell - where to send invoices about Linux things? :) Could make a living out of it. Like most of us, I think. :)

The only reason I want to run MS Money, is because some of the functions are unavailable in either KMyMoney or MoneyDance - cash flow prediction and such. And it looks way better, but that's just cosmetics. Although an important one.
The only consolation I have is that Money Plus is US only as far as I know. So, won't have it for a while :)

Actually, ConceptJunkie, I was surprised when Ubuntu told me "you will have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect". And not only once, it happened about 10-15 times while I was trying to install all that I need.
That was a new thing from a Linux system.
Outlook maybe utter garbage (it definitely has some problems, not as many as Evolution or KOrganizer, but has), but currently the only Calendar/Contact app beside Lotus that can synchronize with every single mobile phone/palm device, has Xing and LinkedIn support, and has a usable Contact sheet.
I will check Crossover Office, if it can connect with Nokia Suit, can use the LinkedIn plugin and the Xing plugin, then it may can replace Outlook.
