This "supplement" is a vitamin/mineral combination . . . we are not talking about steroids here or any other illegal substance. The supplement was supposed to contain vitamin B, potassium, magnesium and selenium - none of these are any kind of "banned substance".

in While state laws friendly to tenants, they're still in limbo until outcome of sale on Nashua Telegraph
ChrisNH, How small minded can you get!!! How can you begin to determine if someone is an "illegal immigrant" from their name alone. What ignorance. Just take a look at the high honors lists for both high schools and you will see that we are a community of very diverse backgrounds and cultures. Just because we are not all "Smith's" and "Jones", does not make them illegal immigrants. Please do not pass this intolerance on to your children!!!

People speeding on East Dunstable Road, parking in illegal spots around the school, and not stopping for those in the crosswalks is a regular occurrence on this road. There appears to be little or no monitoring by the police on a regular basis. Just their presence in the area for a weekly drive through would slow people down. This literally was "an accident waiting to happen" and unfortunately it did.

Have to bad mouth other people for asking very legitiment questions of our elected officials in Nashua.
The super has to work with the Mayor and BOA ALSO! Where is Mr Kelly or Mr Dowd 2 cents at these meetings ?

in Board sets pay for school chief on Nashua Telegraph
Is the committee meeting being held tonight at 7:15 at Nashua North open to the public? Also, does this article intend to imply that community members and district staff will not be involved until the interview process? Better writing on the part of the Telegraph staff would produce better clarity when covering such important issues.

With regard to your first question, I can't answer whether the committee meeting will be held in public. That is up to the committee members. I would assume it would be, because they aren't expected to be talking about any confidential issues yet.
Secondly, the process for the search, including when and how members of the public and district staff will be involved, has not yet been finalized. That is expected to happen Monday night. As the article states, the current proposal would include both of those groups on the interview committee.
The way the article was posted online this morning, several paragraphs of the story were out of order. It has been fixed. That may have led to some confusion.

in Board sets pay for school chief on Nashua Telegraph
The search committee for our new superintendent MUST have more than just school board members on it!!! This article mentions an ad hoc search committee of 4 school board members, I certainly hope and expect that this is only the beginning of the search committee formation. To avoid past mistakes it is critical that parents, community members, and a student be active participants as members on this committee.

in Tutoring center in Nashua shuts down, citing economy on Nashua Telegraph
Ole_Mt_Man, it is many of the same teachers in our schools tutoring these "cheildren "!! It is the parental commitment and the one-on-one that makes the difference. If every "proefessional" teacher - love your misspelling again - had the time to work with each child individually our test scores among our at risk students would be much higher!!! Get off the teacher's backs, go back to school yourself, and learn how to spell!!!

These learning centers do not teach 1 on 1. It is done at a minimum of 1 on 3. We used to send our daughter to the Sylvan Learning Center in Merrimack where they charged $2500 to $3500 for a 10 week term.
The problem for my daughter in the Merrimack public school system was that she was not a problem child who get special programs or an honor student who get special attention. She was just allowed to fall through the cracks. All we ever got from the teachers were shrugs or incomplete answers. So much for being educated educators.
I find it strange that when I attended the Milford School system from 1964 to 1976 we had an average of 28-30 kids in every class and somehow those teachers could teach us.... all of us.

Playboy, The teacher contract is part of the whole package. Stop complaining about the raise the teachers waited nearly 3 years to get and work together to balance the budget. The open budget process is not intended as a "complaint" session, but rather a way to pull minds together to find creative and responsible solutions. If you have nothing productive to add, then keep to yourself!

Playboy
Leave the teachers alone ...
Allocating $11k average per student per year is more than enough to give the children everything they need.Therefroe, no need to raise the school budget!
How about the Board of education begin to study and understand the budget so that they can address the financials of this school system. It is apparent if you watch the BOE meetings that they are lost!
Only then can we bring the minds together.
Playboy says $11k per student is enough.
BTW- a 6.98% average raise per teacher is excessive and out of sync with the current economic times.
So here is the Playboy's suggestion - a wage freeze for the next year for city employees if we cannot make the budget work as per the Mayor's suggestion of a 1% increase. You know- like many of the other citizens are experiencing.
That is the Playboy's recommendations.
What are yours?

The process for identifying special needs students is very specifically scripted by the NHDOE, it includes observations, evaluations, and parental input. For very real reasons much of this information is confidential beyond percents and total numbers. As a former special education teacher, we all wish it were as simple as you would like it to be, but like life, it is not!
