in Media Center Plugin Brings Netflix Hulu and more Online Video via PlayIt on GeekTonic by Brent Evans
I use PlayOn and my HP MediaSmart because I can switch between VMC extender and DLNA modes. If this works, it will be great not to have to teach others in the house how to change modes like that.
I've watched a few shows via Hulu and the quality is actually pretty good to me on my 42" screen. Not as great as HD but at the same time, I get to see a show I missed or didn't record and want to catch up on.

skingery Gave this a try. Didn't work via the extender. Doesn't present the right video format so it errors out.

Been using Playon Beta for a while with my HP MediaSmart Connect. Works pretty good. Great getting Hulu on the big screen. Also woks with my Archos 605 via upnp.

in Hauppauge HD-PVR on Media Center Arrives on GeekTonic by Brent Evans
This looks cool as I have just bought an HD PVR. It is not clear to me that this would work along side current tuners. Especially in North America. Seems like an approach like Silicon Dust did with HD Homerun would be better (at least for North America).

in SageTV HD200 Theater Gets Netflix Hulu CBS and More via PlayOn on GeekTonic by Brent Evans
Trying out Playon on my HP Mediasmart Connect. It is pretty great being able to get Hulu on the TV. FYI, according the the Playon blog, Netflix Silverlight support is planned http://www.themediamall.com/blog/?p=56

Luis So what is the outcome of this? Does Sage made the necesary changes to get the UPnP support on the extender or do I still need to install PlayOn on the server so teh extender can see the Hulu content? Please advice. Thanks.

in Mainstream Attention to Twitter Attracts Mainstream Reactions on JenniferVanGrove.com
On Twitter, I have had quick conversations with tech industry big shots like Robert Scoble and Steve Gillmor. I hesitate to even say that because it sounds like name dropping but it is true. And the fact is, I would have NEVER talked to these guys in any other medium than Twitter. I don't run in their circle of insiders so email or blog comments from little ol' me would go unnoticed.

The funny thing about Twitter is that is is so easy use that it is also easy to miss its value.

The 2 hours in 1 sitting is the problem for me. I'll continue to go across the street or even an extra block or so to Panera Bread.

Thought I'd mention, there is a service that lets you read books by RSS or Email. These are works in the public domain but it is an interesting way to nibble a way at classics. Blogged about it here: http://is.gd/p9P

in Twitter and inadequacy (er, the great friend divide) on Scobleizer
Funny thing is, Twitter is so easy it is hard to 'get'. There is so much to it that just isn't obvious when you join up and post your first tweet. If you really don't want to follow a whole bunch of people you can track a person (like robert) and get both sides of the conversation.
More here on this post where I describe how I cobbled together what, for me, is the ultimate twitter client:

Ohhh I get it. Never thought about having a new tab icon on the tab bar. Guess I'm old school :)

in New Tab Button on Firefox Facts
Huh? Am I missing something? Just right-click on the tool bar, click Customize and drag New Tab icon up to your tool bar. What's different about that? No extension needed.

Might want to check out Hamachi. It's a program that allows you to arrange multiple computers into their own secure network just as if they were connected by a physical network cable.

Versions for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Cool idea. My new Toshiba plasma has SD and Compact Flash slots on the side so I could just pop the cards in there. Plays mp3s too.
One thing all these kinds of tools should have is the ability to read the EXIF data and rotate the picture on screen for you (ala Picasa).

I should update my post...I finally did get it to install a day or so later on a different maching. Looking at the download I don't think the whole thing came through that first night. Probably something with Google's servers.
No matter what happens, this is going to be an interesting thing to watch unfold.

In my opinion the absolut must have extension is AdBlock. Blocks all anoying ads and is configurable by the end user.
