Very interesting analysis. I'd be interested to see the same analysis done over a longer period that included a couple of international match days as well as once MLS has started. Setanta's Euro2008 coverage should change the mix a bit.

If these changes keep this witty and insightful look at American Soccer on TV, then I have no problem with the changes. This show is light years ahead of FSC for insight on what's going on in the USA on the soccer front.

Assuming that GolTV is paying them and not the other way around, why would it be bad to offer customers more options? The obvious next step would be to package Setanta and GolTV together in a single subscription package.
Will GolTV drive as many subs as Setanta alone? Surely not, for the reasons you stated, but will the combintation of the two drive more subs that Setanta alone? Probably.
Seems like a win for their customers.

The sure fire way to "control" video highlights on the web would be for the EPL to put free video highlights on their own site. They could make money from advertisements on the site so it would be win-win for them.
Do you really think a bunch of folks will take the time to digitize highlights if they could simply link their friends to the EPL site to watch a goal clip they wanted to share?
I've posted dozens of soccer highlights on the web over the last couple of years, but I have never digitized an MLS match highlight and posted it...why?...because MLSNet provides their fans with free highlights packages on their own site.
Most internet users are lazy. It the highlights were up on the EPL's site, they wouldn't have to pay some other company to act as their net cop.
You can't stop content from being posted on the web, but if proactively post it yourself, you can have some modicum of control over how it is presented.

in Are TV Habits of Fox Soccer Channel Viewers Changing? on EPL Talk
I started seeing a change in my habits last season when I got Setanta. I really got into the ultra-competitive nature of the Coca-Cola Championship. Plus, Setanta has great specials in between shows, good pre-game and halftime features, etc.
With the EPL on Setanta, I've done the same thing you've done, gone from being an FSC junkie, to a Setanta junkie. I really feel bad for GolTV. They have some excellent programming as well but I can hardly find time to give them the attention they deserve.
