They make a tissue-tee and regular tees...I have some tissue, but the regular-weight ones ARE long enough!

in the price of a good t-shirt on style observer
I just discussed this with my friends this weekend. The price is going through the roof! I love my J. Crew tees, and when I find them at the outlet at special prices, I stock up! Of course, I love Perse and C&C, but I just can't justify.
Jean V. Pratt I can't justify it either - because I'm wearing t-shirts to be with kids & to hang around. So, it seems like a waste. I will say-my issue is that I like my tees longer. I hate for my stomach to show. So, I have a harder time finder them. I'm going to try the J. Crew ones though.

in what’s your take on real vs. faux? on style observer
I say why use real when faux is available. That said...I am not opposed to vintage fur. I wouldn't buy new, but I would buy vintage.

Great post! Very provocative!

Madeline Rhodes Thanks! I can see where you're coming from, although the thought of fur, let alone someone's old, passed down fur creeps me out a bit. I have to admit they can be beautiful, though! Especially classic, vintage furs.

Jean V. Pratt It does look like the J. Simpson jacket! I'm loving the tulip sleeve lately. I think it's so feminine.

Like Pepys, when I am tired of London I will be tired of life. This makes me long for chilly, drizzly London streets, a hot cuppa, and a snuggly coat and scarf. And awesome boots.

Here it's 88 degrees. Sigh.

At the price, I can afford to test drive a pair of Bakers! And I agree with you on Manolos - both comfort and price! Since I can wear flip-flops and jeans to work, I am not spending much on shoes these days anyway...after 8 years, I think Austin is rubbing off on me!

Now I AM thinking about a pair of Louboutins I am coveting from Neiman's....sigh,

in be inspired by Coco Chanel on style observer
Love it! Gorgeous, and definitely classy and fabulous! Wearability and comfort aren't often discussed with Chanel and her style, but I think it should be - do you?!

Interestingly, I bet Miss Coco would have rocked the harem pants, no?!

PS: I noticed you used Bakers shoes...what do you think of their quality?! I have seen some appealing styles in magazines, but would like some first-hand reviews of comfort, wear, etc.
Jean V. Pratt Chanel was all about comfort, wearability, and ultimate style. She liberated women from the confining clothes in the 20's.
Some of Baker shoes are more comfortable than others. So, I think it's a product you're going to have to try on. I've tried these on, and they were pretty manageable. Having said that, I don't know how they would be if you had to wear them all day. Also, you can't compare a shoe like this to one like a Manolo - there just is no comparison. Manolo's are actually fairly worth the price, b/c they are built well - feel good - and last! BUT, right now I don't know many women running out to buy $600 shoes - no matter how comfortable they are.

in are you in the harem? on style observer
My eyes! My eyes! I can't touch these. No. They will be unflattering on the vast majority of women, making extra fabric looking like extra flesh.

(But they look comfortable.)

in why pay more when you can payless. on style observer
I have been fighting every instinct about going to Payless, but this post has decided me for at least investigating! Will check it out this week, I hope! They look so cute, but I wonder how to the quality will be....

Jean V. Pratt I agree, I would normally never consider Payless. I'm all for shoes that look great and cost less.

Thanks for the great review - I loved the coverage from someone whose taste and ideas I trust!

Very excited about the nude gladiator - how fabulous! Can't wait to get a pair - I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Thanks for the backstage antics report - so sad/hilarious.

PS: Would love a post on what specifics you opted to wear - I can imagine the challenge!

Trends for Spring '09! The things that you love, things that you thing people will love, and the stuff that makes you wonder! I love trends, both good and bad. It's a sickness.

Looking forward to your report!

in play with plaid on style observer
I am slightly embarrassed to say: I must have that Jessica Simpson jacket. Seriously. I love it.

I don't wear much plaid, but I do love it for accessories or the odd skirt. The cut of the D&G dress is the perfect foil for plaid's conservative sensibilities. Great looks!

in a laundry list of ways to wear the long cardigan on style observer
Love the long cardigan! Am very excited about this for fall (have been visiting that Donna Karan on net-a-porter.com, coincidentally!) Since I am tall, I love the long, sweeping cardi!

The shoes in the post are so interesting, too. And a leather tank?! Love it.

(Maddie, I noticed you worked in another All Saints - I love it!)

in are tapestry bags synonymous with high fashion? on style observer
Okay, I would totally carry one if it were hugely oversized and it went with my outfit. This is kind of "me". I would wear it with my shrunken brown velvet jacket, flowy silk cami, skinny jeans, chocolate stiletto heels/boots, and some chunky gold jewelry with my huge cranberry carpet bag. Very everyday.

Not that I am giving up my Erotokritos bag or vintage Gucci tote anytime soon, but...it's a great way to be "fall" without sweltering.

No. For so many reasons. Not the least of which is that it's 100 degrees today. Also, totally GREASE...and not in a good way.

But I love them. This is is what keeps fashion interesting!

in open-toe Oxfords on style observer
Love this look, but it doesn't real work for me. Perhaps because it's so seasonal looking, and we don't have a real fall. They would be perfect if I make it to NYC this fall - I like the Vince Camutos, but the Corso Comos are a bit more practical...

Wait a minute! When did shoes become practical?!

Fringe, fringe, fringe! I love fringe! This post allows me to come out of the closet about it!

Since I live in Texas, I almost never wear fringe. I love that Topshop jacket and both the Nine West and Thomas Wylde bags. Is this big for fall?! Am stockpiling my September issues as they arrive for my upcoming travels...

in Ed Hardy for your inner wild side on style observer
It's not my favorite, but it's also just not my look. That said - it is a cool look! The quality seems to have held up under massive merchandising which is quite a coup.

If I'm being totally honest: after Bret Michaels took 2 girls on a date to the Ed Hardy store on ROCK OF LOVE, I was a little over it. Not that it doesn't have a great look - just too mainstream.

Great post! Ed Hardy is a great talking point of fashion - most people have an opinion about it. And the rip-offs can't compare to the original.

in Fall’s passion for purple on style observer
Am very excited about purple for fall! I went crazy this weekend with all of the shades in the store, but limited myself to one eggplant tunic. But there WILL be more.

I have content myself with fall clothing...since it's 104 today. Sigh.

in 80’s flashback? on style observer
As long as the boxy shoulder pads stay buried, I could tolerate the rest. It's fun, colorful, interesting, and great fun for discussion and people-watching.
So much of fashion is predictable and stylized...80s fashion is very anti-that.

I still mis Ton Sur Ton. Sigh. And my Vuarnets.

in the perks of a transitional outfit and how to get one on style observer
I love transitional wear! It seems as though it stays hotter, longer (especially in Texas) and I love the idea of fall looks/accessories without the wool pants/jackets! Love the sweater and scarf, especially!

in tibi transitions to early Autumn on style observer
I wish more designers did a pre-fall collection! Texas is so hot that I seldom have much practical use for fall/winter clothing, but I could see myself wearing this transition-wear throughout the season.
Plus, I like to be able to "look" fall even though it's 90 degrees in October.

I love the tunics! That Addison tunic is fabulous!
