in The advertising question on Jim's Marketing Blog
I have taken the same strategy with my blog. I have items for sale elsewhere on the website, and if folks are interested they can find them, but I, like you prefer to keep the blog about information

in Marketing Guru’s, equality and attraction on Jim's Marketing Blog
Great post. Particularly liked the concept of attraction - One element of attraction is confidence. If you know your message is valuable, and simply put it out there, people will find it.

When you are not sure people will want it you are more likely to push it out there.

My advice, spend more time focusing on your content and less on pushing it out there.

in BlueLock Video: Cloud Computing on The Marketing Technology Blog
I loved the Big Switch. It really gave me a completely different way of looking at computing and the internet. As the technology evolves, the migration to a Cloud Computing environment makes sense for companies of all sizes.

And Brian did a really good job of explaining in this video!

in Will your Word Count Impact Visits? on The Marketing Technology Blog
I tend to write shorter posts because I am afraid of reader fatigue. Glad to see that shouldn't be my biggest concern.

in Starbucks: Inflation and Devaluation of a Brand on The Marketing Technology Blog
Your article is right on the spot. There is no Starbucks Experience any longer, and I never even liked the burnt beans to begin with.

So perhaps a great, brave local coffee shop will open in one of the locations Starbucks is moving out of, and show them how it should be done!

in How to Update a WordPress Event Sidebar from iCal using Google Calendar (and other Google Fun!) on The Marketing Technology Blog
This was great! The calendar feed from my event list is the perfect addition to my PR site - www.indy-biz.com!

Once again proving you are the go to guy on Wordpress! Thanks!

in How to Add Cuil to your Firefox Search on The Marketing Technology Blog
So what is your take on Cuil? I have done a few searches, and I am not sure how I feel about the format, but there does seem to be less junk rising to the top.

Douglas Karr One of the big things I love about it (especially as an EFF supporter) is that they don't record ANY personal info with each search. That's huge in my book!

The results take getting used to and there are some funky issues with the images and some dated articles. I'm hoping they have a ping address soon and utilize sitemaps so that I can see what happens after I start pinging them.

You always have the best links. I love the link to Web Grader. I even ran the report, and was pleasantly surprised with my results.

Thanks!

Douglas Karr Thanks Lorraine! I try to keep them fresh. If you know of any - be sure to pass them on.

in The Ups and Downs of a Domain Move on The Marketing Technology Blog
Congrats on your new home.

I moved www.Indy-Biz.com several times, from blogger to Lorraineball.com to its current and final home. I think the short term dip in traffic was worth it to get it named correctly.

Did you post any notes to on-line news sources about the change?

Douglas Karr Hi Lorraine!

No, I sure didn't. Did that help you?

in Four Blogging Mistakes I Should Have Avoided on The Marketing Technology Blog
Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely look at it.

In the mean time, my solution to # 3 was to create separate blogs for different topics. While it allows me to focus my writing for each audience, it t is sometimes exhausting trying to generate that much fresh content.

I would love to hear opinions of others. separate blogs, or risk alienating some of your readers?

Douglas Karr Separating the content into separate targeted blogs has a lot of advantages, both to your readers' expectations as well as concentrating keywords for search engines. There's no reason why someone couldn't sign up for each of your blogs, I think that's the best way to go!

in Nervous but Successful Afternoon at BlogIN on The Marketing Technology Blog
Content over form every day.. and your content was solid..

Quick question, when i change the permalinks, wordpress can't find any of my old blog posts? does it take wordpress awhile to find them? or do i need to just suck it up and change the htaccessfile.

And now to be a complete novice.. where is my htaccess file?
Douglas Karr Thanks for all the support!

1. Q1: That's probably got to do with your htaccess file as well, Lorraine.
2. Looks like this could be easier than we think! Here's a post on converting to permalinks in WordPress along with a Plugin to help!
