I guess this about sums it up: Good riddance to bad rubbish. It's pretty hard to get pissed off about a service that doesn't charge anything.

in “I ♥ NetNewsWire (on the iPhone)” - Justin Blanton on Colin Devroe
I've been a fan of FeedDemon, the PC equivalent of NetNewsWire, for a while now. Was even a paying customer prior to NewGator making it free for everyone. The iPhone app completes the circle for me. I don't use NewsGator Online much, but it's come in handy more than a few times when I was away from my computers/wifi and needed a feed fix. Google Reader is nice... but a dedicated desktop app is far nicer, IMHO.

I've disabled Disqus. Until I can import my comments back into WP I simply cannot trust it with comments. I've got an XML file with all of the comments that were entered via Disqus... anyone have an idea as to how I can most efficiently get them integrated into my site...?

Aaron, I'd imagine you're in the minority. I was happy with Outlook 2007 when it worked, but when it didn't it was simply unacceptable for me. I'm glad it works for you and your setup. It didn't work for me and it hasn't worked that well for countless others.
(For the record, I was using it on machine with a 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4 HT with 3Gb RAM and a 256Mb video card.)

Google Mobile App
It works with Google Apps for Domains as well.
If you're using a PC, you can now use a combination of Google Calendar Sync + Outlook to keep your calendar in sync. Google Calendar Sync allows for two-way updates, so if you make changes on your iPhone/iPod touch it'll write them to Outlook and then Google Calendar Sync will upload your changes to Google Calendar. It's still a very kludgy setup... but I don't know of anything better, short of just using Google Calendar via Mobile Safari. (On a Mac, you can use something like Spanning Sync to accomplish the same thing.)

in cdharrison.com » archive » Updated Information on Installing Adobe CS3 on cdharrison.com
Chris, I've forwarded your information to Barry Hills at Adobe. If you could send him your contact info - bhills@adobe.com - either he or someone on his team will be in touch to assist you with the problems you're having.
I wasn't aware that install issues were persisting in the 3.3 release... I do agree that the amount of time the installer takes both installing and uninstalling is atrocious. I recently had to remove my copy of CS3 from a laptop I was decommissioning and it took several hours.
Please contact Barry. He's been extremely helpful to others that have came here.

in John Gruber compares the Firefox 3 and Safari 3 browsers on Colin Devroe
On a Mac, I think Safari's a much more solid browser. The only thing that would come close to it, in my mind, is Camino. Seeing as I work on XP, however, Firefox 3 is a solid browser choice. I simply cannot live without extensions. Safari 3 is absolutely lovely on Windows, save for a few minor annoyances, but it doesn't feel at home in XP. (Plus, did I mention I can't live without the extensions?)
Speaking of learning new stuff... I learned yesterday via a friend that you can Ctrl+Click-n-drag a Tab in FF3 to make a copy of it.

<ul><li>Disqus comments don't appear on the WP Admin Dashboard under recent comments. At the very least, I' think there should be a panel on the Dashboard solely for Disqus comments.</li>
<li>I don't want to turn Disqus comments on older posts, at all. I have a plugin installed that disables trackbacks and comments on blog entries after a set amount of time. Disqus ignored that, and enabled comments on those posts anyways. I don't think the global setting is a bad thing, but it'd be nice if Disqus comments could be enabled/disabled on posts on a case by case basis...</li>
<li>Trackbacks weren't working. I see that's been fixed as of today. (Support for trackbacks in Disqus</li>
</ul>
Other than that, I think Disqus is pretty solid. Thanks for asking for feedback!

in A Tweetcar named desire on naterkane.com | the blog
You've missed another issue... A lot of the super-users are the most vocal about Twitter stability, but in their rush to add thousands and thousands of followers they've contributed heavily to Twitter's instability. One person with 30,000 followers creates 30,000+ actions each time they send a message that Twitter has to keep deliver and keep track of somehow. Compare that versus a user like me (@cdharrison) that has around 250 followers and 250 friends... each note I send out taxes the system far less.
I think @ev, @biz, et al. have done a pretty damn good job so far keeping a service that is free up and running for us geeks. They should be commended, not criticized, for what they've done.

in Help Twitter! Use “server friendly” tools. on Colin Devroe
I'm a fan of Snitter (http://getsnitter.com) myself. Regardless of which app a person uses to access Twitter, I think it's a great idea to turn down the number of API calls we make to help ease the load on Twitter's servers. Every little bit helps, right?

No problem at all. I had made the switch to Safari 3.1 for several months on my PC. I loved it (and still love it) but the lack of plugins is a dealbreaker for me. I always come back to Firefox. I can't wait until the final release of FF3.

in cdharrison.com » archive » Simple Form Redirection on cdharrison.com
*nods* Right, but in this case the URL needed to resolve to a folder on the server, assuming it existed. I guess I should of explained the reasoning behind why it needed to be done this way.
Client needed a simple way for their clients to access their folder on server. Each was setup as sub.domain.com/XXXX where XXXX = their client id. The form itself was at www.domain.com and needed to direct the user to sub.domain.com/XXXX.

Another annoyance I have with Adobe Updater is that InDesign keeps wanting to update itself but fails saying that the program could not be found to be updated... It's rather annoying.

in The CSS Selector proposal explained for CSS noobs on Colin DevroeCSS is like a train wreck, covered in glitter, affixed with elephant vomit. Maybe it’s time to stop adding new colors of glitter.
Chris, I beg to differ. The more specific we can make our CSS, the better off we are. What Shaun is proposing is simply an evolution of what is already in place in the CSS spec.
Your description of CSS is what I would use to describe HTML in general. Presentation doesn't belong in markup.

in cdharrison.com » archive » Iron Man on cdharrison.com
Admittedly, I'm torn between giving it higher marks. It's *really good* and it's definitely a movie I'm going to see more than once in the theatre. (Note that my assessment is just slightly lower than what iMDB currently has it pegged at.) Matter of fact, I'd say that it's a *really* strong 8/10.
I think the only thing holding me back is that it was an origin story. If Iron Man 2 is done just as well, I'd have no problems giving it a 10/10.

Jeff, I feel your pain. Considering it was a "fresh" machine, the only thing I can think of that may have caused the problems you're having would be be pre-installed software, i.e. a slightly older version of Flash Player or something. Please email bhills@adobe.com your contact info (i.e. phone, email, etc.). He's been really great about helping folks that have dropped by my site with difficulties.

Chris, Are you referring to using meetup.com or that you just refer to the gatherings as Meetups? (I've also seen people hold Tweetups - for Twitter-centric gatherings.) I'm not dense, I promise... though I know my question probably sounds incredibly stupid...
Michael, Funny you mention that! I thought about doing something like that a year ago (almost to the day!) [See: Things to do.] I think a RefreshAugusta is the way to go. Now, to see about building, growing and nourishing a community!

in What Flickr video means to the rest of us on Colin Devroe
I've got a Flickr Pro acct and this change impacts me very little. To me Flickr is and will always be a photo site. The video stuff is just an extra feature I probably will not utilize. Sites like Viddler, Vimeo, YouTube, etc. do it better. The one thing Flickr has in its favor, and I think I heard Dan Benjamin say this via Twitter... is the Family/Friend permissions already built-in. But, honestly, that's not enough for me to use it exclusively.
