Site goes down, take the complete backup/move file open a new account at another host, restore your complete backup/move file, change your nameservers to point to the new host. That puts you back up and running in less than a day. All cPanel hosts I have dealt with allow you to create that complete backup/move file, I am sure there must be a Plesk and other web host control panel options that do similar things.

Backup, backup, backup!

<abbr>LGR’s last blog post..WordPress 2.8 Released</abbr>

Re: WHAT SHOULD WE DUMP CABLE TV FOR? On another site however it is not working so well. Here is what I have discovered.

It looks like it is a jQuery call that is the problem. On the site where it work the GET request looks something like this:

http://www.website.com/permalink/index.php?wpgb...

and that works.

On the site where it does not work the permalink structure is different and is set to contain .html as well. So the permalink looks like this: http://www.website.com/blog/2008/11/permalink-n..., the jQuery request then looks like this:

http://www.website.com/blog/2008/11/index.php?w...

Which returns a 404.

Thought I would let you know. I have deactivated the plugin for now until this can be fixed since my error log was getting rather full.

Re: WP Greet Box WordPress Plugin

@Thaya Kareeson,
Well maybe that is the difference. On the site where it does not work WordPress is actually installed in a subfolder as per the codec (http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its...). The difference is that WordPress is installed in the folder called blog.

The permalink structure is this: /blog/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html

Don't know if that will help. If there is anything else you need let me know.

Re: WP Greet Box WordPress Plugin

Changing the one line to /index.php fixed it right up. At that price I can register 3 domains at another registrar. Register.com is still living in the past with their prices, not to mention it is almost impossible to transfer a domain away from them. The headaches they will give you are not worth the price. Look at all of the one page sales pages out there. 99% of them push crappy products that are just scams. There are also a lot of bloggers that, to be honest, are just out to make a buck and never actually try or use the service or product they are reviewing. They take the sales copy, expand on it and try to make it sound good. Take a look at some of the products John Chow pushes. 3/4 of them are BS and not worth spending money on but people see his monthly earnings and want a piece so they do the same thing.

I have no problem with people having affiliate links, product reviews etc. People have to make a living, and if the review is good and HONEST then they should make a dollar from it.

<abbr>LGR’s last blog post..Color Scheme Designer</abbr>

Re: Sync Your Browsers Across Multiple Computers with Mozilla Weave

I use Foxmarks to sync bookmarks across multiple computers and it has worked great.
