Interesting. I didn't even know that until I read this post. I had the top friends app installed and I had a slideshow I made too which are now both gone.

THANKS to either the app or facebook! Not cool. A note or something would've been nice especially if it wasn't facebook's fault I'm sure they don't want to be getting the blame for not being able to do things properly and pissing people off.

in No Facebook; Will Quit - Newlaunches.com on Newlaunches.com
I have to say.... I would be annoyed too. I'm 26 years old. I love facebook. It's my staple during the day. I don't think workplaces should block it. Any good employee knows the difference between when they should be working and have deadlines and socializing online. If that employee doesn't know the difference then they probably shouldn't be working there in the first place.

Even if facebook is blocked the employee can find a different site to waste time on. It doesn't matter. Blocking sites is stupid. Either you have a good employee or bad employee.. Using social networking during the day doesn't mean the person isn't doing their job.

Jamalystic While it may sound crude for employers to block social sites at the workplace,it is becoming clearer of the diminish productiviy of employees due to the frenzy of social sites. I don't think i will quit a job on that basis. There is enough time for me to socialize outside of work time. In a well succint manner, this bolg described the social anxiety facing people about social networking: Social Network Anxiety Disorder ( http://www.internetevolution.com/author.asp?sec...)

Holy comments batman!
I only read a few of them. Firstly.. I've seen the "people you may know" I have added a few people from this area that maybe I didn't think of adding or quite honestly I forgot about. This could be useful and frankly if I don't want to add someone I won't. It's a lot easier then searching for people so I do kinda like it.

As for the friend recommendations. I haven't even seen this. I don't know where this resides and I didn't even hear about it. Same thing.. friend recommendations could be useful as long as users don't get flooded. I don't necessarily think that is crossing the line for the friend recommender... but when you have people pop up that you don't know it's not really a great recommendation. Unless their hot. :P
Nah I don't know. This is actually one of the smart features that facebook has installed.

I don't believe this is intrusive as a feature... I believe if people are concerned about this there are privacy settings which allow the user to block themselves from showing up in search which should roll over to people not seeing you in "people you may know"

This comment: "I wonder if the new Friend Suggestor will have any larger implications on the way in which we make friends online"

Facebook already has had implications on how we meet people online.

I honestly never got into twitter and I don't see the point. Granted I've never delved myself into it but the way I see it is... twitter is letting your friends know what you're doing right? By typing little sentences "I am going to the store" "I am currently at work"

It's like a site for status' as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't use either of these sites. I can let my friends know what I'm doing on facebook through status msgs.. and maybe something that twitter should or could look into is parterning up with facebook to either do an app with status format... or status powered by twitter. Something to that effect. Maybe there is more to twitter then I'm giving credit to but it just seems like another site to me and a waste to constantly update.

Eric Rice Yeah that was always hilarious to me that a *FEATURE* from another app became an app on its own. In fact, it's hilarious (and irritating) to see the status bars on Facebook get spammed by people who post their twitter statuses there. Like good grief, control yourselves.

Twitter is having problems because we the users turned it into what it wasn't supposed to be: a chat room, instead of that quirky little 140 character update(trust me, you can get around that limit, just post over and over).

Twitter is a bit retarded in functionality, but in the social space, it ain't about function. It's about social. It's the trendy hot spot where you go to be seen (well myspace/facebook-- oh nm, it's a losing argument), it's a trendy hot spot for the early web/tech adopters go to be seen. The iPod isn't the best -featured- mp3 player, it just has the sexiness and the social power to command the world domination (for now).

Plurk is fun, shiny, and prolly will stick if the big names show up.

How fickle we humans are. ;)

(Sorry for the huge-ish comment, doh!)

2 things. One... yes how do we get an interview in bed with Pete!!

Secondly... the reason WHY the free gifts app did so well is because people don't want to pay for gifts. Some people do it cause sure it's for charity. That's always good. But how many people would truly feel comfortable putting their credit card into facebook? A site which as we speak is having technical errors this morning.

Converting an app to a monetary gain would definately be a great idea... IF it was worth it. Right now the site is over run with apps, some of which that don't even work properly. There is a trust factor that needs to be built first.

This simplified web page making is kinda cool actually... I'd like a review on this later. I have a blog on blogger and it'd be nice to be able to have other pages with no html required.

Maybe these two people just don't know what sexy is... this is definately sexy. Yum!!

Other then looking at the sexy Pete Cashmore I did actually watch the video and where mashable is going... not too crazy about mashable having blogs on the site but forums yes. I can see those getting a huge amount of volume.

Readers love to interact with each other but they also love to interact with the writers and that's when it becomes more then just a "blog" it starts to form a community.

Great video.. great!

You know what happened? Facebook came out and it was great, then they released all those applications and it was too much too fast. All of a sudden there were pages amomg pages of applications and duplicates of applications that basically did the same thing.

Then you get a ton of requests every single day so that's a piss off factor. Facebook became less about actually socializing with people and more about sending apps to people, free gifts, poking and it created this almost anti-social environment to where instead of talking to someone you were poking them.

People have a ton of friends on the friends list which some of whom they don't talk to and that is where it can be similar to Myspace.

Facebook was supposed to be for people you already knew or used to know and maybe people you'd like to be introduced to. Facebook has taken their product, twisted and warped it then making it this complex being where all people wanna do once in awhile is write on someone's wall and you have to scroll 5 times just to get there.

There are apps that don't even work properly yet they are still allowed to remain on Facebook therefore watering down the quality of the site in general.

SIMPLIFICATION! If people have to search and sort through stuff just to find what they are looking for chances are they'll just give up and go somewhere else.

Totally off topic but that picture of the guy beside the girl in this specific post is HOT! Wow.

I'd meet him just for the sake that I think he's gorgeous! Yea.. nothing to do with the post I know but he distracted me from the post. :)

Just so we're clear it's this guy> http://mashable.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/...
