in to my health, part IV: the revolver on revjim.net
Working on the insurance billing thing. I need a guinea pig or five to get my process down.
Amanda said pretty much all my other thoughts. I know what points I would do on you; herbally I hesitate to prescribe until you've tried the ergonomic tweaks and nasal lavage. But kudzu root probably wouldn't hurt. I am not proud to admit that I led the charge in raiding the school pharmacy when the air conditioning was giving us all wind-invasion stiff neck. Tastes awful. Really effective. YMMV with capsules. YMMV anyway. For other crap, ping me about a week after you've optimized your work setup and have been rinsing your nose every day, and I'll see what I got.

It would be easier if we weren't like 40 miles away. I was going to say Wednesday, but I just booked an evening appointment. Thursday is First Thursday in the BAD, though, so it'd be good for some eats and some browsing. And I quite miss this aspect of dorm life. Why can't it be normal for someone to sit on my bed and shoot the shit while I'm folding my laundry?!?

I made plans with Rachelle for Thursday already. It'll have to be some
other day. :(

One of my favorite song lyrics goes, "Come into my house, throw open the windows wide. Then back to your house, to do likewise." (Send for Henny, by the Trashcan Sinatras)
I have always thought grocery shopping more fun as a team activity. I really miss that about dorm life; it's the last time anyone found it socially acceptable to randomly drop by and sit on my bed while I was folding laundry--which really makes it go by faster, somehow.

Chores and menial tasks are always easier with someone to help pass
the time. If I was a stay at home dad, I would try to make a
partnership with one or more families to help them watch their kids in
their home and keep them company while they did chores in exchange for
the same.
I like you, Laura. I'm glad you get it.
(oh and... unrelated, I need to talk to you about setting up an
appointment for me.)

in seeking: stark raving lunatics on revjim.net
I do think a FAN is a difficult thing to find. It requires a shift in mindset that really, I even haven't achieved for myself. I trade services with my landlady, because it's convenient, but I haven't gotten needled myself in over a year. I got into it to begin with because I seriously thought I was going out of my mind, or I'd never have considered paying for it. (And while intellectually I would find it interesting, if I had that much of a nutcase in my office, I'd find it more drama than I wanted even on a professional level.) And photography is just something I rarely think about.
Some people talk about me a lot, and some people actually get me business. I haven't quite figured out what makes the difference. I suspect it's the circle of wealth, which again, not exactly my social net. ;)

We are in a similar boat. How do we make people NEED a luxury item? In my field, people would rather use OTC's than schedule a doctor's appointment that's a $10 copay for them, how do I make them pay $60 for an hour of my time? The numbers are about right; 1000 translates into 50 solidly booked weeks of 4 patients a day for me. I'd still have to be pretty stingy for Christmas presents, but that would pay my rent.
Friends are great, but to count on them to give you any sort of business at all is about the cutest thing I've heard all week.

Ha. Yeah. I didn't expect much BUSINESS, really, from friends. But I
did expect more word of mouth. I guess I expected them to be FANS.
I have presented your services to at least 10 different people that I
can remember. I pimp Jonathan and my parents whenever I feel it's a
good fit. I've intended to make an appointment with you (and email you
about something else) for EVER now... but I keep running out of time
(trying to do it on a work day to avoid having to drive out twice). I
mention Soul Glow any time anyone talks about needing a band for
something. Jess got Rob's Lawn Care company a job up at the bank she
works at. It's just the way I am.
I guess I expect others to act as I would.
"This photographer I know took an awesome photo of a barn. I bet you'd
like it."
"You look great! You should talk to my friend about getting some
photos done. He's awesome and would certainly work with you for cheap
if not free."
"Do you have any photos of your new baby yet? No? You should see
Daniel James. This guy is awesome!"
I think I expected too much.

in out of business on revjim.net
No matter how you slice it, to make a living is a pain in the ass. As the fellow above said, the actual trade generally ends up being the least of your focus. It has to be, a lot of the time. Which I think is a big reason why my husband is still destined to have a dayjob for a good long while. And if we do manage to go Hollywood or fall into inheritance or win the lottery or whatever, frankly, I'll be perfectly happy to make a hobby out of healing. Even though I've spent the last four years of my life studying because I don't believe I could hold down any other job. I do get the pain of giving up a dream, but I totally get why you came to the conclusion you did for now.
Anyway, the clinic would still love to buy some prints. No stress, since I've currently got the table turned so they're looking at the window and my diplomae instead of blank wall. Extra 5 feet of space between their heads and the construction next door, ya know? Hopefully that won't be too much longer. Foundation's almost done, and I think the roof is done.

I think ytt is more a tool for yourself rather than something that needs to be broadcast. You might just go analog with it; it'd probably take less time. EVERYONE gave me a calendar or three last Christmas, so one of those is dedicated to my version of ytt. I'm not sure of the usefulness in a big picture broad view sense, but it helps me a lot to look at the last week and see how many times I did or didn't at all go to the gym, saw patients, or did something useful for the business. Like you, I need to get more consistent with logging in it, especially since I rarely note things I did over the weekend. I always have this memory/conversational blindspot when people ask what I did over the weekend.

in greener over there on revjim.net
This is wonderful. I'm probably going to order this and the trees over the still water. Depends on if I still feel like "spending like a start-up" once I've balanced my books this week. I have a lot of blank space, but I also haven't put up all my shelving and coathooks. I took a rest on my table the other day, though, and the patients are pretty much going to be looking right over the door frame.
I'll try to do the Neti every day for a week, even if it all just goes down my throat, and will get one of those balls to sit on instead of a regular chair when at the home office.
Thank you!
