power (or rather, needs encouragement to use its power). a tougher audience might mean fewer pure product pitches. i know at democamp 12 (the only one i’ve been to) you reminded the audience that since it was a *camp, we were expected to ask questions and interact during the presentations… perhaps we are just too polite and need more prodding to get out of our shells :P

or maybe more tools. it’s unfortunate that at no regrets the wifi seemed limited, so there was no opportunity for backchannel.
write-up!

your criticisms are definitely spot-on. note that bunnyhero labs was originally not conceived as a widget site-- it started out as a place for me to experiment with stuff (hence the "labs"), but the adoptable pets became surprisingly popular, first on livejournal, then xanga, and now myspace. that's why the site's organization is a bit odd. i think i might like to give the pets a domain of their own, but bunnyheropets.com is taken. i'll think of something.... in the meantime, i should give the home page a makeover as you suggested.

and yes, it still is a one-man show. i haven't been giving enough time to developing new content recently (i was very busy all of november with something totally unrelated). and pete cashmore's answer to jordan mitchell's question is correct :)

thanks again, i feel quite honoured to have been noticed by mashable :D

Re: without creating an account first. at least mooble lets you do that. that's definitely something myspace got right: just viewing a basic profile does not require registration. seeing any extra goodies (like extra pictures) *does* require sign-up. i think that's just about the right amount of carrot, so to speak... with capazoo (and wallop, so far, for that matter), there's no incentive for me to sign up, without a free sample first.

Wed, 13 Dec 2006 19:05:26 /widget.php?parm&parm&parm). it's not just myspace that does this, i think, but i honestly don't remember where else i ran into this...
<dc:creator support emails today regarding my pets not being embeddable into myspace. what's interesting is that i looked at the code on their profiles and the embed tag was transformed quite a bit more than is usual on myspace. usually myspace just add attributes like 'allowNetworking="internal"' and such, but this time the embed tag was completely reformatted and [param] tags inserted, as though it was to be used by an [object] tag.

curiouser and curiouser!

Thu, 18 Jan 2007 21:08:52 playing around a little more, and it seems that the new filtering blocks QUICKTIME completely!

i can now see why they don't use "embed" at ALL: the object tag can force the mimetype of the embedded content, whereas the embed tag cannot (i believe). in the past, myspace has tried to block certain kinds of embedded content via filename extension, but that can be easily circumvented on the server side (e.g. serving up a quicktime movie that is named 'movie.swf'). now ALL embeds are forced to be flash, so even if you try to serve up a quicktime movie (or some other kind of media), it'll be loaded by the flash plugin. no more quicktime worms... and no more quicktime of any sort on myspace.
<dc:creator
