I'm on medication, he sees a therapist but no meds yet. I have a lot of guilt and sadness that he, at the tender age of 8, is already struggling so much emotionally. So I have no words of advice but just support and to say, yeah, I'm in a similar situation. A tiny, minor price to pay for teaching the Democrats a crucial lesson, that they cannot insult our people and reach power at our expense, and that if they try, that they will suffer a hellish reckoning.

Leading up to the primary in South Carolina, the KKKlintons will be trying all these tactics, you can count on it, and we have to be ruthless back. Bring your camcorders everywhere and record everything the KKKlintons attempt. Get in their faces and INTIMIDATE the Clinton campaign people.

Don't be brutish or obviously mean, be subtle yet also tough. Harass and frustrate the Clintonites, tantalize and thwart them, get into the KKKlinton campaign staffers' heads and demoralize them. They wanted the war like this, and they're gonna a reckoning more horrific than anything they could have imagined before.

Re: I need a vacation!

Hope you do get some kind of break soon, Chuck. :) take care!

Re: Race Report

That sounds great!! I definately was my own worst enemy and would constantly sabotage myself or just crap out because I didn't get instant results. A mental shift definately needs to take place, like the shift that takes place when a smoker is finally able to quit after several failed attempts (did that too). I think with eating, like smoking, there is the component of junky behavior that makes the next fix worth far far more than the consequences - if not for pleasure, than to at least keep the withdrawal sickness at bay.

Anyway Chris, maybe you are saving humanity a little when you demonstrate first hand what a person can do when they make the committment to themselves. When I'm at work, I talk about how great I feel and how happy I am. I hope that my enthusiasm about running, improving health, and my emerging fit body is silently working on people's perceptions (and not just annoying them). Maybe some time they will say to themselves "I totally can do that too!"

And thanks for an interesting post :)

Re: 8 Miles (not 10)

You could break a bank window, or steal a car, or streak (reduce chafing) before you hit the trail, then you could watch a very exciting episode of COPS.

Re: Foundation

Actually Chris, I appreciate you sharing this process with us. Successes, stumbles, self-analysis, readjustment, changes of mind, changes of heart...We all do it and it's all part of that journey, right? I think that the winding path is what prompts us to deeper introspection. If it was always completely linear would we be as motivated to open ourselves to more, to ask more questions and seek more answers?

Enjoy the ride :)

Re: The yarn has eyes…

You know, it's all because you went to the yarn shop without me. I really don't think "they" (the great computer gods in the sky I guess) have gotten downloading movies to be easy, fast, and successfull enough to make that worthwhile - YET. When I first heard this argument a few weeks ago I decided to give it a go for one full tank and see if my mileage improved. I drive a Toyota Echo and drive on the interstate to go to work. I got 380 miles instead of 320 miles by dropping my speed down to 65 from 80 . I also quit "scooting" while at lights, you know where everyone inches up just a little while waiting? I drive a stick so I figured I was wasting gas doing that too.

Re: TreeHugger October Contest: "Old Faithful"

Hi Cynthia,

Good for you, I love my diva cup as well! It's just going to get worse, I heard on NPR today about cloning food animals, and people really want the U.S. to buy into these ideas. Yes, I immediatley went to half.com and bought a second hand copy of this book. Some of the exotic animals are the one's I feel sorry for, wild cats like Oscolots, skunks, sugar gliders. Animals that really aren't domesticated. I can't see how large wild cats can be happy in a pen, not hunting their own food and so on. But as for domesticated dogs and cats, so many of them are in shelters and need homes. They can't live on their own any more. It's great to take in a rescued animal. Also, I would never actually buy a dog or cat. The purchase of pets just encourages breeders, many of who do not know a lot about breeding or run puppy mills. With so many in shelters it's silly to go buy a purebread animal.

Re: Instant Survey: Pets

There is a point I forgot to make earlier, people should not have a pet if they can't afford to take care of it. I work for a vet and am so discouraged and sick of people whining about the cost of pet care. If one doesn't have the finances they shouldn't get a pet. I like everyone elses points too and am glad that others agree about dogs and cats - at this point they're domesticated to do anything else. Mine also love their "jobs", the poodle allerts everyone, the doberman is the boss, the husky mix mothers everyone, the coon hound likes to find things, the rotweiler mix is the protector of all. As for having time to spend with them, I'm home most of the day 4 days a week, and even though they're inside dogs we go out and play a lot and they have free reign of the whole house. My husband and I let them sleep with us so it's more of a den like environment.

Re: Instant Survey: Halloween

I love halloween but am not doing any of it this year. I have taken the train before and would take it more often if not for two issues. One, trains get delayed a lot, even on the track waiting on freight trains. Two, when I try to plot out longer trips there are huge lengthy lay overs in large citys and this makes the time issue even larger! One reason I don't drive cross country is I don't want to put the wear and tear on my car, a very fuel efficient Toyota Echo.

Re: "Weird Eco Habits" Contest: Time to Vote

I'm all for Terry and his creative lawn. It takes some getting used to because it dries differently than conventional dryers and things can be damp for a minute, but then finish drying. It can wash twice the amount it can dry making an old fashioned clothes pole almost necessary. We knocked 1/3 off our electric bill and it's supposed to use less water too (hard for us to tell). Another great feature is it takes up less space. They plug into a 110 (regular) outlet and require no venting since the dryer works by condensation. The LG models are more expensive than some others (Haier), but from what researched they are of better quality and preformance. Good Luck!

Re: Is There a Eco-Friendly Alternative to Caustic Drain Cleaners?

I'm a fan of avoiding the situation to begin with. Save bacon grease and re-use it. Keep a small old coffee can (metal) to dump other grease into and pitch it once a month or so. Brush your hair before you shower to reduce the amount of hair that may go down the drain. As for tree roots, once the problem is remedied, there is a chemical (alas) that can be flushed twice a year to keep the roots at bay. Any type of air can or plunger can cause more trouble in a house with any age.

Re: Instant Survey: Grocery Shopping

I shop at Wild Oats, Trader Joes, and we just got a Sunflower Market. When populations get out of control things start occuring to take action and reduce the population - plagues and so on. I wish the U.S. would stop giving tax credits for children. Why should people get extra money for having children when a lot, about half, of property taxes go to schools and every homeowner- children or none - pays property taxes. And yet only people with children get child credits on taxes. Maybe property taxes should stay the same and those without children should get the tax credit. I agree - they have a long way to go before I'll step foot in a Wal-Mart. I also saw the movie "The High Cost of Low Prices," it's imacting. Note, other big box stores have similar effects, business ethics, but perhaps they aren't as cut throat as Wal-Mart or try to make an effort (i.e. Target), so try to shop from local, sustainable, or re-sell, resources as much as possible.

Re: IKEA UK Will Charge For Plastic Bags

I was in Ireland this winter and they charge .10 cent for a bag everywhere. I do put my undies in the middle. I am not a stay at home person (per first comment), I've never had my clothes out in the rain - I just pay attention to weather broadcasts. It saves me a lot on my electric bill. I have made an indoor european drying rack to use when it's raining or snowing. It's really neat, on pullies so I lower it, load it up, and raise it back to the ceiling to dry out of the way. I made it for about $13.

Re: Do Clotheslines Really Lower Property Value?

I don't think my neighbors, including the church next door, really care if I hang my clothes out to dry - I even hang them out on Sunday.

Re: TH Tip: Unclogging the Drain

Yes, they are chemicals, although naturally occuring chemicals. I wish they would not allow animals to be listed. When the Indy chapter considered banning animal listings, but then didn't, I quit. Many times when someone is looking to get rid of a pet there is a good reason for it. Sometimes it's easier where someone is moving, or has allergies, but many times the real reason is about potty issues. Rescuing animals is THE WAY TO GO, but do so knowing there may be a issue, it may not work. I have rescued 7 dogs & 3 cats with good luck - but I have worked for vets for 7 years and know what I am looking for.

Re: Survey: Coins or Bills?

I really wish the US would move to using coin dollars! Since heat rises it makes sense to let the laundry dry up there & out of the way. You can find them online for about $100 or make one yourself. I did this out of 5 dollar store broom handles, 2 scrap pieces of wood, a few pulleys and rope, for about $13.00. It seems that right now when a young woman states she's not having children others near by have a negative reaction and say things like "oh, you don't know that yet," or "how can you say that? Babies are wonderful." And on and on. There is something to be said for NOT having children, not only from an environmental standpoint but it also provides more freedom - freedom to travel, financial freedom, freedom from some types of worry. For me I can pretty much do what I want and at 32 am quite happy without children.

Re: Survey: Do You Like Daylight Saving Time?

I live in Indiana where DST was adopted a couple years ago. They are best buddies and keep me laughing all day. I don't have a blog to share..........I like to check in with yours and look at your amazing photos. I WISH I could take good quality photos of my kiddos!! Your girls are absolutely adorable. They make me smile everytime I see a photo. Your sons are very handsome as well. I admire you..........4 boys and then you have twins!! I don't know how you did it. My twins were my first (and only) pregnancy. I have to say that I ALWAYS wanted twins and feel so blessed.
Lara in Indiana :-)

Re: http://married2military.blogspot.com/2009/08/last-hurrah.html

There's an old saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." A shot of vodka helps sometimes, too :)

Re: http://married2military.blogspot.com/2009/08/last-hurrah.html

There's an old saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." A shot of vodka helps sometimes, too :)

Re: http://psicoteca.blogspot.com/2006/05/tesis-doctorales-descargables.html

(as opposed to when i was a nanny, and all i wore were sweats and t-shirts.) you should join! :)

Re: http://ourlittleapartment.blogspot.com/2008/07/housekeeping-deets.html

thanks for including me! :)

Re: http://ourlittleapartment.blogspot.com/2008/07/little-sarcasms-good-for-soul.html

i love that site so much. i also complain way too much. i'm famous for being that "never too busy to complain about how busy i am" person. everyone just LOVES that about me. ;)

Re: http://ourlittleapartment.blogspot.com/2008/11/nablopomo-ugh-seriously.html

yay! i'm doing it too, so we can be masochists together. :)

Re: http://ourlittleapartment.blogspot.com/2009/07/on-my-new-very-excitng-purchase.html

Congrats on the camera!
