If Steve Perry ever does a show in my area, I'm there! When you say you had to use Google, was that for Journey songs, Steve Perry solo tunes, or both?

Since my cable company doesn't have BET, I'll have to check with my sister to see if she recorded the awards show. Based on what you've said, BET would have been better off postponing the show until they could do it right.

When Michael discussed sleeping with children in the documentary "Living With Michael Jackson", I cringed. Not because I thought he was doing anything sinister, but because I knew that many would take it that way. I think that many people expected too much from Michael in regards to being what they term being "normal". Asking that of the average celebrity is a reach, to expect the person who was arguably the most famous person in the world to conform to a standard of normality is ridiculous.

I am guessing that this wasn't easy for you to write, but you did an excellent job. Take care of yourself.

Excellent tribute. For me, MJ's music overshadowed anything in his personal life. When one thinks about it, the death of Michael Jackson marks the end of an era because he (along with Elvis and The Beatles) was in that small class of musicians who transcended music. We will never see anything of that magnitude again.

Even though I root against every Clevelend pro sports team, I can't bring myself to hate LeBron James. I'm glad I decided to take a nap and not watch tonight's game 2 matchup between the Cavs and Hawks... yet another predictable blowout.

Most ladies and gay men are going to love you posting this. I can imagine that they will be fanning themselves throughout watching this video.

I have occasionally watched some of these reality relationship shows in the past, but I usu. couldn't make it through an entire episode. I don't expect all TV to be "Masterpiece Theater", but damn!

I hope that you return from your self-imposed break with a renewed sense of purpose. I went through something similar where I felt my blog was losing focus. I'm not totally back in the groove yet, but I'll get there.

I was thinking that we had to choose songs from when the artist was a child singer. :-) Having said that, Stephanie Mills doesn't get the credit she deserves. I was glad to read on Stepanie's Wikipedia page that she has her own record label.

I missed "Don't Go" when it was first out. I guess it was because I was working a lot and not watching many music videos. I'm pretty sure the local R&B; station wasn't playing it either. Anyway, not a bad song... I'm glad I got a chance to hear it.

When you count their group efforts and their solo stuff, it is hard to narrow it down to two. It's your meme so you're allowed to break the rules. :-)

I enjoy remakes like this much better than the "note for note" ones. I remember how amazed I was when I found out that the versions of "Superstar" by The Carpenters and Luther were the same song.

"Dallas" was and still is one of my favorite shows. J.R. Ewing is the gold standard for TV villains. I took a break from typing these comments just so I could watch some "Dallas" clips on You Tube.

I am with you Marvalus... The Jeffersons was funny as hell!! There were so many hilarious moments. One that comes to mind is one of the later episodes where the men (George, Tom, and Lionel) said that housework was easy. Of course, they made a royal mess of things. Some of my favorite episodes were the flashbacks (for example, the one where George opened his first store in 1968, right around the time that MLK was killed). It's a shame the way CBS treated the show. For a show that ran for 10 years, it deserved to get a series finale.

One of my favorite parts of the video to "Love Is A Battlefield" is when a "teenaged" Pat runs away from home and her father says, "You leave this house now... you can just forget about coming back!"


I also took the opportunity to play "Name That Video" by looking at the You Tube player screen but not hitting "play".

How fitting that the Tuskegee Airmen got an invite. This makes the upcoming inauguration all the better.

Along with me, many people have said that if they were O.J., the general public would have never seen or heard from them again after the acquittal back in 1995. Although I think delusion and arrogance were a big part of O.J.'s downfall, I am starting to wonder if part of him wanted to get caught for something else because he felt he got away with murder. I'm not saying that he did kill Ron and Nicole because I think it's possible that he didn't.


I wasn't familiar with the Taneka Talley until now. Thanks for covering it. Yet further proof that insurance companies/corporate America can be pure scum.

The Tempts are my favorite group without question. Just like you, my favorite period of their career is the "Classic Five" era of David, Eddie, Paul, Melvin, and Otis. They were so tough musically that even many of their B-sides and album tracks were worthy of being released as singles. Songs like "You've Got To Earn It", "What Love Has Joined Together", "Don't Look Back", "Just One Last Look", and "Cindy" just to name a few.


Besides greatest hits compilations, do you have any of their original albums on CD? My favorite album by them is 1967's "With A Lot O' Soul" followed by "Wish It Would Rain". A few years ago, Motown released all of their albums from roughly 1964-1973 as "2 For 1s" on one CD.



Good call on your assessment of Boyz II Men. I feel that they really missed the boat because they could have been "The Temptations of the modern era", but they released too many ballads as singles. I have no problem with ballads, but they should have balanced it with more uptempo tunes.

Jamie Foxx was a solid choice on your part. I think the first time I heard him sing was on a Christmas themed episode of "In Living Color". I was like, "Damn, Wanda the Ugly Woman can sing!"

This is an outstanding idea for a weekly feature. I look forward to future installments. This will make a good counter to the many blogs that seem to relish in focusing on negativity.


I saw the story of D’Zhana Simmons in passing last week, but didn't get the full details until now. This story is nothing short of amazing.

10. Yet another reason I am sour on Black Friday. One blogger used this tragedy as an opportunity to write a post about the dangers of not having crowd control when dealing with low-income Blacks. Good point about the pregnant man thing. The reason they are referring to her as a man because it's a hotter news story... it sells more papers, gets bigger ratings, etc.

I'm starting to wonder about Shaq. On one hand, he says he'd like to return to the Lakers once his contract with Phoenix is up. Then he blames the problems he had with Kobe on Laker coach Phil Jackson. I doubt if Phil is leaving the Lakers anytime soon so why throw the man who may be your future coach under the bus?

The best chance for LeBron to win a ring is if he leaves the Cavs. There is talk that Joe Dumars has plans to bring him to Detroit. That would be sweet!

I used to watch The Grammys regularly, but don't remember if I saw this performance. This was pretty cool. I hadn't heard Stevie Wonder's "Go Home" in years.
